The structure of cellulose acetate membranes II. The physical and transport characteristics of the porous layer of anisotropic membranes

Abstract:By a technique involving the removal of successive layers of an anisotropic cellulose acetate membrane, and the measurement of solute and volume flow through the remaining structure, it is possible from the results to calculate some of the properties of each decrement which characterizes its structure. These are: average pore diameter, area ratio of pores to total surface, and pore volume fraction.
