Application of inter-borehole acoustic wave method in probing deep crack of concrete

Methods used for probing deep cracks in mass concrete mainly include pressure water method and seepage method, but these two methods both have shortcomings of large error occurring in results and difficulties in judging the location of crack tip. The application of inter borehole acoustic wave method to probing deep cracks in mass concrete can effectively solve the above mentioned problems. This method has advantages of simple manipulation, visual results, extensive suitability and high reliability, and can reflect changes of fine and micro cracks. The basic principle for probing deep cracks by using the inter-borehole acoustic wave method is analyzed, and in combination of the practice of crack inspection at the Three Gorges project, the test process and some matters needing attention are presented.
