While elaboration being made on the important position of diesel engine in marine motive powers, analyses havebeen conducted for the trends of oversea marine powerplants, and so for the technical standing and progressive tendency ofexternal marine diesel engines. Channels for enhancing the overall technological level of domestic diesel engines have beensuggested. Finally, the enlightement given us by developed marine diesel engines at abroad have been expounded, and thekey technologies requiring breakthrough as well as the technical measures to be taken for Chinas marine diesels have beenproposed.
