Abstract:The reason of the formation of gas porosities and cracks on the head face of valve tappet has been studied. It was found that the formation of the porosities was closely related to the carbon content in alloying iron welding rod and the melting time. The cracks on the head face were caused by inappropriate quenching and grinding processes. The manufacturing process with which the porosities and cracks may be eliminated is proposed in this paper.
