Abstract: | The present author notes that confusions and contradictions concerning color terminology to be found in elementary psychology texts have been amply documented by Karl Pratt ("Colorless colors?" American Psychologist, 1962, 17, 660-662). Psychologists are not alone, however. The fields of colorimetry and photometry have helped to foster such an inconsistent nomenclature. He suggests adopting terminology put forth by The Committee on Colorimetry, Optical Society of America (1953) in their book, "The Science of Color".
