Abstract:
Aluminium alloy coupons were treated by CO2-laser ablation. The degree of surface modification introduced by this treatment has been determined by a combination of Auger electron spectroscopy and scanning electron microscopy. Following laser treatment a 22% increase in initial lap shear joint strengths was observed compared with degreased-only controls.
