The Future of Telephony Switching

This paper analyses the applications, the fundamental strength and weakness of TDM and PDM respectively, pointing out that PDM, as a different mode of communication, will be a strong competitor to TDM. At the same time, with its development and its distinctive advantages, WLL is becoming a new ubiquitous access media, and together with Internet and ATM technology, will have a direct impact on the design of next generation of telephone switches. Finally, this paper predicts the next generation of signalling would be an end-to-end direct system.
