Abstract:The current status of worldwide developments of polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cell(PEMFC) stacks and system,research activitiesinresent years to analyze the cost of PEMFCstacks and systems,the remainingresearch and development issuesthat should be resolved before the PEMFC available for commercial application were discussed.The two main problems that chal-lenge the PEMFCcommercialization were cost and fuel supplyinfrastructure.The ways to lower the cost,to choose the fuel andi mprove the efficiency and reliability were described.Toresearchthe cost target of 125 kWand stacklifeti me of 40 000 ~100 000h,basic researchin PEMFC was indispensable.
