Analysis and Realization of OpenType Font Technology

The OpenType font format, an extension to the trueType font format was developed jointly by Microsoft and Adobe. This new font format does not only add support to PostScript font by its compact font format. it also uses multilingual typesetting to support more types of platforms and international glyph variants based on the large glyph sets using Unicode encoding. OpenType still allows basic functions of previous typesetting software such as text aligning by baseline, alternatively vertical format, flexible positioning, composition and de composition with ligatures and so on. It is obvious that this open technology will have a great influence upon the next generation of software for typesetting or Chinese character processing.
