Abstract: | A chemical method for the conversion of phosphatidylethanolamine into phosphatidylcholine is described. Methyl iodide in the presence 18-crown-6 (1,4,7,10,13,16-hexaoxacyclooctadecane) and potassium carbonate in benzene is used to alkylate phosphatidylethanolamine in 2.5 hr at 37 C to give an isotopically enriched phosphatidylcholine. The product is purified conventionally and is obtained in 75% yield. |
