Integrated manufacturing: developing your strategy

Abstract:This paper argues the need for flexibility, in the form of integrated manufacturing (IM), in order to compete effectively in today's highly volatile business environment. It seeks to clarify a definition of IM and reviews the benefits gained, the obstacle encountered and explains how to develop an IM strategy by adopting a structured planning process. The key issues are consolidated by reviewing the use of IM planning in two very different companies.
