| 摘 要： | 忠实是翻译的标准之一，包括二方面的内涵：信守原的内容；切合原的语言风格。它不同于逐字逐句。只顾字面含义的“硬译”或“死译”。这里通过对小说《红字》两个译本的分析，评析了两译本在运用忠实这一翻译理论中的成败之处。旨在促进“忠实”这一标准在学翻译中的具体运用。

| Abstract: | According to theory of translation, a translator should be faithful both to source language message and to the style of the original. A translated text with the expression of superficial meaning will be in no way faithful. Based on the two authors' translations of The Scarlet Letter, the paper analyses some aspects of success and failure of the two translations. The paper aims at offering some practical methods of how to apply the theory of faithfulness in translation. |
