Friction and wear processes in piston rings

It has been recognised that a large part of the top piston ring wear of an ic engine takes place in boundary lubrication around top dead centre (tdc) position. A quantitative assessment of the friction behaviour using actual piston ring and cylinder liner under conditions close to tdc has been made.
