Theory of porous electrodes—XVIII. The iron electrode

Abstract:A model of the negative plate of the NiFe accumulator is proposed, similar to that of the negative plate of the NiCd accumulator. Besides volume changes of the solid phase and other obvious effects, the dependence of the tortuosity factor of the pores on porosity was also taken into account. The best agreement with the theory is obtained with electrodes prepared from pure sintered iron powder, eventual deviations being attributed to partial passivation. The influence of various factors is discussed in detail.
