Abstract:Silver coatings with a thickness of ca.6μm were electroplated on brass and stainless steel in a bath comprising25 g/L AgNO3,80 g/L 5,5-dimethylhydantoin,60 g/L nicotinamide,40 g/L potassium carbonate,and 2 mL/L composite brightener(containing 2-mercaptobenzothiazole,1,4-butaneol,and sodium dodecyl sulfate)at pH 10.5,temperature 60℃,and current density 0.1-1.2 A/dm2.The effect of current density on the appearance,gloss,surface morphology,and corrosion resistance of silver coating on brass,as well as the adhesion of silver coating on stainless steel was studied.The results showed that current density greatly affects the appearance and microscopic morphology of silver coating,while has little impact on the corrosion resistance and adhesion of silver coating.The silver coating electroplated within the current density range from 0.6 A/dm2 to 1.0 A/dm2 was uniform and bright,and had a compact crystalline structure.
