Abstract: | A laboratory two-roll mill technique and chemical analysis procedures were used to determine the source of plate-out problems associated with plasticized, barium-cadmium-zinc stabilized, poly(vinyl chloride) extrusion wire coating compounds. The results of this study indicated that the barium-cadmium-zinc heat stabilizer was the main contributor to the plate-out problem. It was further shown that the plasticizer participated in the plate-out process while a secondary heat stabilizer system did not. Using the two-roll mill technique, it was possible to optimize the poly(vinyl chloride) compound to minimize plate-out while maintaining optimum physical properties. |
