Crystallization of fluorozirconate glasses

Abstract:The crystallization of a number of glasses of the fluorozirconate family has been studied using powder X-ray diffraction and differential scanning calorimetry, as a function of time and temperature of heating. The main crystalline phases were β-BaZrF6 and β-BaZr2F10. Stable and metastable transformations to the low temperature α phases were also investigated. The size of crystallites in fully devitrified glasses was calculated to be ~ 600 A? from line broadening of the X-ray diffraction peaks.
