Abstract: | Following a discussion of the need for psychotherapists to understand the religious beliefs of Mormon clients, the historical development and social milieu of Mormonism is described. Selected beliefs and their psychotherapeutic consequences are discussed, including potency of religion, relationship to God, sexuality, grace and works, and the Mormon lifestyle. These beliefs and consequences are illustrated through the case of a woman in therapy. (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2010 APA, all rights reserved) |
