Abstract: | Computer-aided modeling (CAM), computer-aided design (CAD) and manufacture, artifical intelligence and robotization have become frequently used terms in connection with manufacturing operations. Within this context, the question naturally arises as to what extent these ideas have taken root in today’s metals processing and to what extent these concepts will develop in the future. This overview presentation examines the types of problems where major advances have been made through modeling. Also featured is a list of current software packages available as well as hardware. A discussion of rational mathematical modeling strategies in a materials processing environment is also included. |
