The present study has been conducted using nanofluids and molten salts for energy and exergy analyses of two types of solar collectors incorporated with the steam power plant. Parabolic dish (PD) and parabolic trough (PT) solar collectors are used to harness solar energy using four different solar absorption fluids. The absorption fluids used are aluminum oxide (Al2O3) and ferric oxide (Fe2O3)‐based nanofluids and LiCl‐RbCl and NaNO3‐KNO3 molten salts. Parametric study is carried out to observe the effects of solar irradiation and ambient temperature on the parameters such as outlet temperature of the solar collector, heat rate produced, net power produced, energy efficiency, and exergy efficiency of the solar thermal power plant. The results obtained show that the outlet temperature of PD solar collector is higher in comparison to PT solar collector under identical operating conditions. The outlet temperature of PD and PT solar collectors is noticed to increase from 480.9 to 689.7 K and 468.9 to 624.7 K, respectively, with an increase in solar irradiation from\ 400 to 1000 W/m2. The overall exergy efficiency of PD‐driven and PT‐driven solar thermal power plant varies between 20.33 to 23.25% and 19.29 to 23.09%, respectively, with rise in ambient temperature from 275 to 320 K. It is observed that the nanofluids have higher energetic and exergetic efficiencies in comparison to molten salts for the both operating parameters. The overall performance of PD solar collector is observed to be higher upon using nanofluids as the solar absorbers. Copyright © 2015 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

In this paper, exergy modeling is used to assess the exergetic performance of a novel trigeneration system using parabolic trough solar collectors (PTSC) and an organic Rankine cycle (ORC). Four cases are considered: electrical-power, cooling-cogeneration, heating-cogeneration, and trigeneration. In this trigeneration system a single-effect absorption chiller is utilized to provide the necessary cooling energy and a heat exchanger is utilized to provide the necessary heating energy. The trigeneration system considered is examined using three modes of operation. They are: solar mode during the low-solar radiation time of the day, solar and storage mode during the high-solar radiation time of the day, and storage mode during night time. The storage mode is operated through the heat collected in a thermal storage tank during the solar and storage mode. The exergy efficiencies and exergy destruction rates are examined under the variation of the ORC evaporator pinch point temperature, ORC pump inlet temperature, and turbine inlet pressure. This study reveals that the maximum electrical-exergy efficiency for the solar mode is 7%, for the solar and storage mode is 3.5%, and for the storage mode is 3%. Alternatively, when trigeneration is used, the exergy efficiency increases noticeably. The maximum trigeneration-exergy efficiency for the solar mode is 20%, for solar and storage mode is 8%, and for the storage mode is 7%. Moreover, this study shows that the main sources of exergy destruction rate are the solar collectors and ORC evaporators. Therefore, careful selection and design of these two components are essential to reduce the exergy destructed by them and, thus, increase the exergy efficiencies of the system.  相似文献

As the increase in greenhouse emissions, climate changes, and other irreversible repercussions stems from environmentally destructive energies such as fossil fuels, exploiting solar and geothermal energy as unlimited clean sources of energy in the renewable energy technologies can survive the planet earth, which is facing a catastrophe on a global scale. The main purpose of this research is to study Techno analysis of the combined ground source heat pump (GSHP) and photovoltaic thermal collectors (PVTs) with a “phase-change material” (PCM) storage tank to fulfill the energy demands of a residential building. In the first step of this study, in order to model the heat pump behavior in multi-usage operation modes (heating and cooling), a numerical transient simulation of a water-to-water GSHP, which includes a vertical U-type ground source heat exchanger (GSHX) and a variable speed drive (VSD) compressor, was conducted by developing a numerical code in Engineering Equation Solver software. To study the thermodynamic aspect of the hybrid system in terms of exergy and energy, a transient numerical simulation was accomplished using the TRNSYS program. Also, the impact of effective characteristics of ingredients such as areas of PVT panels and the volume of the storage tank of PCMs on the performance of the hybrid system are investigated. On top of that, the two types of the GSHP-PVT-PCMs and GSHP-PV from the energy and exergy points of view are compared. The obtained results demonstrate that the irreversibility of the solar modules of the GSHP-PVT-PCMs is 6.6% lower than that of the GSHP-PV. Furthermore, the calculation of the annual required load of the building for these two kinds of hybrid systems shows that the use of collectors in this combined system has reduced the total load of the building by 6.5%. The use of collectors in the GSHP-PVT-PCM gives rise to a difference in the value of solar factor (SF) of this system by 1.4% more than the one for the hybrid system without thermal collectors.  相似文献

In this paper, we propose a new solar air heater with a packed-bed latent storage energy system using PCM spherical capsules. At daytime, the solar heating system stored the thermal solar energy as sensible and latent heat, however, at night it restored. Some parameters, such as the global solar radiation and the mass flow rate are varied to investigate their effect on the absorbed, used, and recovered heat from the system. An optimization study using the first and second laws of thermodynamics is also carried out to obtain the energy and exergy efficiencies. The experimental study was conducted, designed, and realized in the Research and Technology Center of Energy (CRTEn) in Tunisia. The experimentally obtained results are used to analyze the performance of the system, based on temperature distribution in different parts of the collectors, absorbed, instantaneous stored and used thermal energy. The daily energy efficiency varied between 32% and 45%. While the daily exergy efficiency varied between 13% and 25%. The effect of the mass flow rate of air on the outlet temperature of the solar air heater is examined.  相似文献

In this paper, exergy analysis method is developed to assess a Rankine cycle system,by using supercritical CO2 as working fluid and powered by solar energy. The proposed system consists of evacuated solar collectors, throttling valve,high-temperature heat exchanger,low-temperature heat exchanger, and feed pump. The system is designed for utilize evacuated solar collectors to convert solar energy into mechanical energy and hence electricity. In order to investigate and estimate exergy performance of this system, the energy, entropy, exergy balances are developed for the components. The exergy destructions and exergy efficiency values of the system components are also determined. The results indicate that solar collector and high temperature heat exchanger which have low exergy efficiencies contribute the largest share to system irreversibility and should be the optimization design focus to improve system exergy effectiveness.Further, exergy analysis is a useful tool in this regard as it permits the performance of each process to be assessed and losses to be quantified.Exergy analysis results can be used in design, optimization, and improvement efforts.  相似文献

This paper deals with the utilization of a renewable energy‐based integrated system with the latent heat storage option for building thermal management systems. Both energy and exergy‐based assessments of the current combined system are conducted. For this purpose, phase change material (PCM)‐embedded radiant wall heating system using solar heating and ground source heat pump (GSHP) is studied thermodynamically. Heat is essentially stored within the PCMs as used in the panels to increase the effectiveness. The stored heat is released when the solar energy is not available. In the thermal energy storage analyses, four different PCMs are considered. The present results show that the overall first ‐ law (energy) and second ‐ law (exergy) efficiencies of the PCM‐free radiant heating system are much lower than the case with the PCM‐embedded radiant heating system. Therefore, it is confirmed that the energy efficiency increases from 62% to 87% while the exergy efficiency rises from 14% to 56% with the option where SP26E PCM is employed accordingly.  相似文献

This work aims to evaluate the energy and the exergy performance of an integrated phase change material (PCM) solar collector with latent heat storage in transient conditions. A theoretical model based on the first and the second laws of thermodynamics is developed to predict the thermal behaviour of the system. The effect of natural convection on heat during the melting process is taken into account using an effective thermal conductivity. Influence of PCM thicknesses on the melt fraction, on the energy stored and on the exergy destroyed are studied during charging and discharging processes. Results indicate that the complete melting time is shorter than the solidification time. The latent heat storage system increases the heating requirements at night and reduces the exergy efficiency.  相似文献

Analysis of energy and exergy has been performed for a latent heat storage system with phase change material (PCM) for a flat-plate solar collector. CaCl2·6H2O was used as PCM in thermal energy storage (TES) system. The designed collector combines in single unit solar energy collection and storage. PCMs are stored in a storage tank, which is located under the collector. A special heat transfer fluid was used to transfer heat from collector to PCM. Exergy analysis, which is based on the second law of thermodynamics, and energy analysis, which is based on the first law, were applied for evaluation of the system efficiency for charging period. The analyses were performed on 3 days in October. It was observed that the average net energy and exergy efficiencies are 45% and 2.2%, respectively.  相似文献

The selection of working fluid and working conditions of the Organic Rankine Cycle (ORC) has a great effect on the system operation, and its energy efficiency and impact on the environment. The main purpose of this study is to develop a procedure to compare capabilities of working fluids when they are employed in solar Rankine cycles with similar working conditions. The Refprop 8.0 database with 117 organic fluids has been considered as the reference in this study. A procedure to compare ORC working fluids based on their molecular components, temperature–entropy diagram and fluid effects on the thermal efficiency, net power generated, vapor expansion ratio, and exergy efficiency of the Rankine cycle has been proposed. Fluids with the best cycle performance have been recognized in two different temperature levels within two different categories of fluids: refrigerants and non-refrigerants. Based on categories of solar collectors, 11 fluids have been suggested to be employed in solar ORCs that use low or medium temperature solar collectors. Collector efficiency improvement and use of the regenerative ORC instead of the basic cycle reduce irreversibility of a solar ORC. Calculation results show that for selected fluids, the theoretical limits for irreversibility reduction and exergy efficiency enhancement through collector efficiency improvement are 35% and 5% respectively, when the collector efficiency increases from 70% to 100%. The effect of regeneration on the exergy efficiency of the cycle is fluid dependent while the effect of collector efficiency improvement on the exergy efficiency of the cycle is nearly independent of fluid type. At the two temperature levels studied, higher molecular complexity results in more effective regenerative cycles except for Cyclohydrocarbons.  相似文献

This paper investigates the performance of a high temperature Polymer Electrolyte Membrane (PEM) electrolyzer integrated with concentrating solar power (CSP) plant and thermal energy storage (TES) to produce hydrogen and electricity, concurrently. A finite-time-thermodynamic analysis is conducted to evaluate the performance of a PEM system integrated with a Rankine cycle based on the concept of exergy. The effects of solar intensity, electrolyzer current density and working temperature on the performance of the overall system are identified. A TES subsystem is utilized to facilitate continuous generation of hydrogen and electricity. The hydrogen and electricity generation efficiency and the exergy efficiency of the integrated system are 20.1% and 41.25%, respectively. When TES system supplies the required energy, the overall energy and exergy efficiencies decrease to 23.1% and 45%, respectively. The integration of PEM electrolyzer enhances the exergy efficiency of the Rankine cycle, considerably. However, it causes almost 5% exergy destruction in the integrated system due to conversion of electrical energy to hydrogen energy. Also, it is concluded that increase of working pressure and membrane thickness leads to higher cell voltage and lower electrolyzer efficiency. The results indicate that the integrated system is a promising technology to enhance the performance of concentrating solar power plants.  相似文献

In the following work, a seasonal thermal energy storage using paraffin wax as a PCM with the latent heat storage technique was attempted to heat the greenhouse of 180 m2 floor area. The system consists mainly of five units: (1) flat plate solar air collectors (as heat collection unit), (2) latent heat storage (LHS) unit, (3) experimental greenhouse, (4) heat transfer unit and (5) data acquisition unit. The external heat collection unit consisted of 27 m2 of south facing solar air heaters mounted at a 55° tilt angle. The diameter and the total volume of the steel tank used as the latent heat storage unit were 1.7 m and 11.6 m3, respectively. The LHS unit was filled with 6000 kg of paraffin, equivalent to 33.33 kg of PCM per square meter of the greenhouse ground surface area. Energy and exergy analyses were applied in order to evaluate the system efficiency. The rate of heat transferred in the LHS unit ranged from 1.22 to 2.63 kW, whereas the rate of heat stored in the LHS unit was in the range of 0.65–2.1 kW. The average daily rate of thermal exergy transferred and stored in the LHS unit were 111.2 W and 79.9 W, respectively. During the experimental period, it was found that the average net energy and exergy efficiencies were 40.4% and 4.2%, respectively. The effect of the temperature difference of the heat transfer fluid at the inlet and outlet of the LHS unit on the computed values of the energy and exergy efficiency is evaluated during the charging period.  相似文献

Advancing in the learning curve of solar thermal power plants (STPP) requires detailed analysis for reducing exergy losses in the energy conversion chain. This requirement should be applied to any configuration proposed for the solar field and the power block. The aim of this work is to perform this type of analysis for two ways of structuring the power plant. The first plant structure consists of a subdivision of the solar collector field into specialized sectors with specific goals conveying different requirements in temperature. The second plant structure is based on a dual thermal energy storage system with a defined hierarchy in the storage temperature. The subdivision of the solar field into different sectors reduces the exergy losses in the heating process of the working fluid. Moreover, the average temperature of the heat transfer fluid in the solar field decreases when it is compared to the conventional solar field, reducing this way the exergy losses in the collectors. The dual thermal energy storage system is devised for keeping the exergy input to the power block at its nominal level for long periods of time, including post‐sunset hours. One of the storage systems gathers a fluid heated up to temperatures above the nominal value and the second one is the classical one. The combination of both allows the manager of the plant to keep the nominal operation of the plant for longer periods than in the case of classical system. Numerical simulations performed with validated models are the basis of the exergy analyses. The configurations are compared to a reference STPP in order to evaluate their worth. Furthermore, the behaviour of the configurations is analysed to study the irreversibility of the included devices. Special attention is paid to the storage systems, as they are a key issue in both plant structures. Copyright © 2013 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

In this paper, a combined power plant based on the dish collector and biomass gasifier has been designed to produce liquefied hydrogen and beneficial outputs. The proposed solar and biomass energy based combined power system consists of seven different subplants, such as solar power process, biomass gasification plant, gas turbine cycle, hydrogen generation and liquefaction system, Kalina cycle, organic Rankine cycle, and single-effect absorption plant with ejector. The main useful outputs from the combined plant include power, liquid hydrogen, heating-cooling, and hot water. To evaluate the efficiency of integrated solar energy plant, energetic and exergetic effectiveness of both the whole plant and the sub-plants are performed. For this solar and biomass gasification based combined plant, the generation rates for useful outputs covering the total electricity, cooling, heating and hydrogen, and hot water are obtained as nearly 3.9 MW, 6584 kW, 4206 kW, and 0.087 kg/s in the base design situations. The energy and exergy performances of the whole system are calculated as 51.93% and 47.14%. Also, the functional exergy of the whole system is calculated as 9.18% for the base working parameters. In addition to calculating thermodynamic efficiencies, a parametric plant is conducted to examine the impacts of reference temperature, solar radiation intensity, gasifier temperature, combustion temperature, compression ratio of Brayton cycle, inlet temperature of separator 2, organic Rankine cycle turbine and pump input temperature, and gas turbine input temperature on the combined plant performance.  相似文献

CO2 based power and refrigeration cycles have been developed and analyzed in different existing studies. However, the development of a CO2 based comprehensive energy system and its performance analysis have not been considered. In this study, the integration of a CO2 based solar parabolic trough collector system, a supercritical CO2 power cycle, a transcritical CO2 power cycle, and a CO2 based cascade refrigeration system for hydrogen production and multigeneration purpose is analyzed thermodynamically. This study aims to analyze and compare the difference in the thermodynamic performance of comprehensive energy systems when CO2 is used as the working fluid in all the cycles with a system that uses other working fluids. Therefore, two comprehensive energy systems with the same number of subsystems are designed to justify the comparison. The second comprehensive energy system uses liquid potassium instead of CO2 as a working fluid in the solar parabolic trough collector and a steam cycle is used to replace the transcritical CO2 power cycle. Results of the energy and exergy performance analysis of two comprehensive energy systems showed that the two systems can be used for the multigeneration purpose. However, the use of a steam cycle and potassium-based solar parabolic trough collector increases the comprehensive energy systems’ overall energy and exergy efficiency by 41.9% and 26.7% respectively. Also, the use of liquid potassium as working fluid in the parabolic trough collectors increases the absorbed solar energy input by 419 kW and 2100 kW thereby resulting in a 23% and 90.7% increase in energetic and exergetic efficiency respectively. The carbon emission reduction potential of the two comprehensive energy systems modelled in this study is also analyzed.  相似文献

A theoretical model has been developed for analysis and optimization of the solar system using phase change material (PCM). The later consists of a solar air heating collector coupled with a cylindrical storage tank which contains spherical capsules filled with a PCM. Energy and exergy analyses are carried out to understand the behavior of the system using single PCM or multiple PCMs. Numerical results show that the performance of the latent thermal storage system can be ameliored by the judicious choice of the melting temperature of the PCM.  相似文献

This paper performs a thermo-economic assessment of a multi-generation system based on solar and wind renewable energy sources. This system works to generate power, freshwater, and hydrogen, which consists of the following parts: the solar collectors, Steam Rankine subsystem, Organic Rankine subsystem, desalination part, and hydrogen production and compression unit. Initially, the effects of variables including reference temperature, solar radiation intensity, wind speed, and solar cycle mass flow rate, which depend on weather conditions and affect the performance of the integrated system, were investigated. The thermodynamic analysis results showed that the overall study's exergy efficiency, the rate of hydrogen and freshwater production, and total cost rate are 33.3%, 7.92 kg/h, 1.6398 kg/s, and 61.28 $/h, respectively. Also, the net power generation rate in the Steam and Organic Rankine subsystems and wind turbines are 315 kW, 326.52 kW, and 226 kW, respectively. The main goal of this study is to minimize the total cost rate of the system and maximize the exergy efficiency and hydrogen and freshwater production rate of the total system. The results of optimization showed that the exergy efficiency value improved by 20.7%, the hydrogen production rate increased by 1%, and the total cost rate value declined by 2%. Moreover, the optimum point is similar to a region in Hormozgan province, Iran. So, this region is proposed for building the power plant.  相似文献

Analysis and performance assessment of a solar driven hydrogen production plant running on an Mg–Cl cycle, are conducted through energy and exergy methods. The proposed system consists of (a) a concentrating solar power cycle with thermal energy storage, (b) a steam power plant with reheating and regeneration, and (c) a hybrid thermochemical Mg–Cl hydrogen production cycle. The results show that higher steam to magnesium molar ratios are required for full yield of reactants at the hydrolysis step. This ratio even increases at low temperatures, although lowering the highest temperatures appears to be more favorable for linking such a cycle to lower temperature energy sources. Reducing the maximum cycle temperature decreases the plant energy and exergy efficiencies and may cause some undesirable reactions and effects. The overall system energy and exergy efficiencies are found to be 18.8% and 19.9%, respectively, by considering a solar heat input. These efficiencies are improved to 26.9% and 40.7% when the heat absorbed by the molten salt is considered and used as a main energy input to the system. The highest exergy destruction rate occurs in the solar field which accounts for 79% of total exergy destruction of the integrated system.  相似文献

The present study evaluates the optimal design of a renewable system based on solar and geothermal energy for power generation and cooling based on a solar cycle with thermal energy storage and an electrolyzer to produce hydrogen fuel for the combustion chamber. The subsystems include solar collectors, gas turbines, an electrolyzer, an absorption chiller, and compressed air energy storage. The solar collector surface area, geothermal source temperature, steam turbine input pressure, and evaporator input temperature were found to be major determinants. The economic analysis of the system showed that the solar subsystem, steam Rankine cycle, and compressed air energy storage accounted for the largest portions of the cost rate. The exergy analysis of the system demonstrated that the solar subsystem and SRC had the highest contributions to total exergy destruction. A comparative case study was conducted on Isfahan, Bandar Abbas, Mashhad, Semnan, and Zanjan in Iran to evaluate the performance of the proposed system at different ambient temperatures and irradiance levels during the year. To optimize the system and find the optimal objective functions, the NSGA-II algorithm was employed. The contradictory objective functions of the system included exergy efficiency maximization and cost rate minimization. The optimal Exergy round trip efficiency and cost rate were found to be 29.25% and 714.25 ($/h), respectively.  相似文献

Energy efficiency is generally used as one of the most important parameters in order to introduce and compare thermal systems including flat plate solar collectors despite of the fact that the first law of thermodynamics is not solely capable of demonstrating quantitative and qualitative performance of such systems. In this paper, a theoretical and comprehensive model for energy and exergy analysis of flat plate solar collectors is presented through which the effect of the entire design parameters on performance can be examined. Upon the verification and confirmation of the model based on the experimental data, effect of parameters such as fluid flow rate and temperature, type of working fluid and thickness of the back insulation on the energy and exergy efficiency of the collector has been examined and based on the analysis and comparison of results, the optimal working condition of the system has been determined. According to the results, designing the system with inlet water temperature approximately 40° more than the ambient temperature as well as a lower flow rate will enhance the overall performance.  相似文献
