Experimental heat transfer studies during condensation of pure R-134a vapor inside a single microfin tube have been carried out. The microfin tube has been provided with different tube inclination angles of the direction of fluid flow from horizontal, α. The data are acquired for seven different tube inclinations, α, in a range of −90 to +90° and three mass velocities of 54, 81, and 107 kg/m2-s for each inclination angle during condensation of R-134a vapor. The experimental results indicate that the tube inclination angle of, α, affects the condensation heat transfer coefficient in a significant manner. The highest heat transfer coefficient is attained at inclination angle of α = +30°. The effect of inclination angle, α, on heat transfer coefficient, h, is more prominent at low vapor quality and mass velocity. A correlation has also been developed to predict the condensing side heat transfer coefficient for different vapor qualities and mass velocities.  相似文献

Experimental heat transfer studies during evaporation of R-134a inside a corrugated tube have been carried out. The corrugated tube has been provided with different tube inclination angles of the direction of fluid flow from horizontal, α. The experiments were performed for seven different tube inclinations, α, in a range of − 90° to + 90° and four mass velocities of 46, 81, 110 and 136 kg m 2 s 1 for each tube inclination angle during evaporation of R-134a. Data analysis demonstrate that the tube inclination angle, α, affects the boiling heat transfer coefficient in a significant manner. The effect of tube inclination angle, α, on heat transfer coefficient, h, is more prominent at low vapor quality and mass velocity. In the low vapor quality region, the heat transfer coefficient, h, for the + 90° inclined tube is about 62% more than that of the − 90° inclined tube. The results also showed that at all mass velocities, the highest average heat transfer coefficient were achieved for α = + 90°. An empirical correlation has also been developed to predict the heat transfer coefficient during flow boiling inside a corrugated tube with different tube inclinations.  相似文献

This study investigated the direct relationship between the measured condensation pressure drop and convective heat transfer coefficient of R134a flowing downward inside a vertical smooth copper tube having an inner diameter of 8.1 mm and a length of 500 mm during annular flow. R134a and water were used as working fluids on the tube side and annular side of a double tube heat exchanger, respectively. Condensation experiments were performed at mass fluxes of 260, 300, 340, 400, 456 and 515 kg m−2 s−1 in the high mass flux region of R134a. The condensing temperatures were around 40 and 50 °C; the heat fluxes were between 10.16 and 66.61 kW m−2. Paliwoda’s analysis, which focused mainly on the determination of the two-phase flow factor and two-phase length of evaporators and condensers, was adapted to the in-tube condensation phenomena in the test section to determine the condensation heat transfer coefficient, heat flux, two-phase length and pressure drop experimentally by means of a large number of data points obtained under various experimental conditions.  相似文献

The two-phase heat transfer coefficients of pure HFC-134a condensing inside a smooth tube-in-tube heat exchanger are experimentally investigated. The test section is a 0.5 m long double tube with refrigerant flowing in the inner tube and cooling water flowing in the annulus. The inner tube is constructed from smooth copper tubing of 9.52 mm outer diameter and 8.1 mm inner diameter. The test runs are performed at average saturation condensing temperatures between 40–50 °C. The mass fluxes are between 260 and 515 kg m− 2s− 1 and the heat fluxes are between 11.3 and 55.3 kW m− 2. The quality of the refrigerant in the test section is calculated using the temperature and pressure obtained from the experiment. The average heat transfer coefficient of the refrigerant is determined by applying an energy balance based on the energy transferred from the test section. The effects of heat flux, mass flux and condensation temperature on the heat transfer coefficients are also discussed. Eleven well-known correlations for annular flow are compared to each other using a large amount of data obtained from various experimental conditions. A new correlation for the condensation heat transfer coefficient is proposed for practical applications.  相似文献

In this paper, flow patterns and their transitions for refrigerant R-134a condensing in a microfin tube are visually observed and analyzed. The microfin tube has been provided with different tube inclination angles of the direction of fluid flow from horizontal, α. The experiments were performed for seven different tube inclinations, α, in a range of − 90° to + 90° and refrigerant mass velocities in a range of 53 to 212 kg/m2s for each tube inclination angle during condensation of R-134a vapor. From analysis of acquired data, it was found that the tube inclination strongly influenced the vapor and condensate liquid distribution. Annular flow was the dominant flow pattern for vertical downward flow, α = − 90°. Annular flow, semi annular flow and stratified flow were observed for α = − 60°and − 30°. Annular flow, wavy-annular flow and stratified-wavy flow exist in sequence for horizontal tube. Annular flow and wavy-annular flow were observed for α = + 30°and + 60°. Annular flow, annular-wavy flow, churn flow and slug flow occurred for α = + 90°.  相似文献

In this study, the best artificial intelligence method is investigated to estimate the measured convective heat transfer coefficient and pressure drop of R134a flowing downward inside a vertical smooth copper tube having an inner diameter of 8.1 mm and a length of 500 mm during annular flow numerically. R134a and water are used as working fluids in the tube side and annular side of a double tube heat exchanger, respectively. The ANN training sets have the experimental data of in-tube condensation tests including six different mass fluxes of R134a such as 260, 300, 340, 400, 456 and 515 kg m− 2 s− 1, two different saturation temperatures of R134a such as 40 and 50 °C and heat fluxes ranging from 10.16 to 66.61 kW m− 2. The quality of the refrigerant in the test section is calculated considering the temperature and pressure obtained from the experiment. The pressure drop across the test section is directly measured by a differential pressure transducer. Input of the ANNs are the measured values of test section such as mass flux, heat flux, the temperature difference between the tube wall and saturation temperature, average vapor quality, while the outputs of the ANNs are the experimental condensation heat transfer coefficient and measured pressure drop in the analysis. Condensation heat transfer characteristics of R134a are modeled to decide the best approach using several artificial neural network (ANN) methods such as multilayer perceptron (MLP), radial basis networks (RBFN), generalized regression neural network (GRNN) and adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference system (ANFIS). Elimination process of the ANN methods is performed by means of 183 data points, divided into two sets randomly, obtained in the experiments. Sets of test and training/validation include 33 and 120/30 data points respectively for the elimination process. Validation process, in terms of various experimental conditions, is done by means of 368 experimental data points having 68 data points for test set and 300 data points for training set. In training phase, 5-fold cross validation is used to determine the best value of ANNs control parameters. The ANNs performances were measured by means of relative error criteria with the usage of unknown test sets. The performance of the method of multi layer perceptron (MLP) with 5-13-1 architecture and radial basis function networks (RBFN) were found to be in good agreement, predicting the experimental condensation heat transfer coefficient and pressure drop with their deviations being within the range of ± 5% for all tested conditions. Dependency of outputs of the ANNs from input values is also investigated in the paper.  相似文献

In the present study, the void fraction and film thickness of pure R-134a flowing downwards in a vertical condenser tube are indirectly determined using relevant measured data together with an annular flow model and various void fraction models reported in the open literature. The vertical test section is a countercurrent flow double tube heat exchanger with refrigerant flowing down in the inner tube and cooling water flowing upward in the annulus. The inner tube is made from smooth copper tubing of 9.52 mm outer diameter with a length of 0.5 m. The experimental runs are carried out at average saturated condensing temperatures of 40 and 50 °C, and mass velocities are around 456 kg m− 2 s− 1, over the vapour quality range 0.82–0.93, while the heat fluxes are between 45.60 and 50.90 kW m− 2. Analysis based on simple void fraction models of the annular flow pattern are presented for forced convection condensation of pure R134a, taking into account the effect of the different saturation temperatures at high mass flux conditions. The comparisons of calculated film thickness show that the void fraction models of Spedding and Chen, and Chisholm and Armand are the most accurate ones with the experimental data due to their low deviation with Whalley's annular flow model over 35 void fraction models presented in this paper.  相似文献

The two-phase pressure drop of the pure refrigerant HFC-134a during condensation inside a vertical tube-in-tube heat exchanger was investigated. The double tube test section was 0.5 m long with refrigerant flowing in the inner tube and cooling water flowing in the annulus. The inner tube was constructed from smooth copper tubing of 8.1 mm inner diameter and 9.52 mm outer diameter. The test runs were performed at average condensing temperatures of 40–50 °C. The mass fluxes were between 260 and 515 kg m− 2 s− 1 and the heat fluxes between 11.3 and 55.3 kW m− 2. The quality of the refrigerant in the test section was calculated using the temperature and pressure obtained from the experiment. The pressure drop across the test section was directly measured by a differential pressure transducer. A new correlation for the two-phase friction factor of R134a flow is proposed by means of the equivalent Reynolds number model. The effects of heat flux, mass flux and condensation temperature on the pressure drop are also discussed.  相似文献

This paper is the second of a two-part study concerning two-phase flow and heat transfer characteristics of R134a in a micro-channel heat sink incorporated as an evaporator in a refrigeration cycle. Boiling heat transfer coefficients were measured by controlling heat flux (q″ = 15.9 − 93.8 W/cm2) and vapor quality (xe = 0.26 − 0.87) over a broad range of mass velocity. While prior studies point to either nucleate boiling or annular film evaporation (convective flow boiling) as dominant heat transfer mechanisms in small channels, the present study shows heat transfer is associated with different mechanisms for low, medium and high qualities. Nucleate boiling occurs only at low qualities (xe < 0.05) corresponding to very low heat fluxes, and high fluxes produce medium quality (0.05 < xe < 0.55) or high quality (xe > 0.55) flows dominated by annular film evaporation. Because of the large differences in heat transfer mechanism between the three quality regions, better predictions are possible by dividing the quality range into smaller ranges corresponding to these flow transitions. A new heat transfer coefficient correlation is recommended which shows excellent predictions for both R134a and water.  相似文献

This paper reports the experimental investigation of a model for predicting flow pattern transitions and for the validation of void fraction models and correlations proposed in the authors' previous publications and for the identification of flow regimes in data corresponding to annular flow downward condensation of R134a in a vertical smooth copper tube having an inner diameter of 8.1 mm and a length of 500 mm. R134a and water are used as working fluids on the tube side and annular side, respectively, of a double tube heat exchanger. Condensation experiments are done at mass fluxes of 260 and 515 kg m− 2 s− 1 in the high mass flux region of R134a. The condensing temperatures are between 40 and 50 °C; heat fluxes are between 10.16 and 66.61 kW m− 2. A mathematical model proposed by Soliman based on the models of Kosky and Lockhart–Martinelli is used to determine the condensation film thickness of R134a. Comparative void fraction values are determined indirectly using the measured data under laminar and turbulent flow conditions together with various void fraction models and correlations reported in the literature. There is good agreement between the void fraction results obtained from the theoretical model and those obtained from the void fraction models of Soliman, Chisholm and Armand, Turner and Wallis, Smith, Spedding and Spence previously proposed in the authors' publications and tested against their experimental database. Various well-known flow regime correlations from the literature are investigated to identify the flow regime occurring in the test tube, the correlations of Taitel and Dukler, Dobson, Akbar et al., Breber et al., Cavallini et al., and Sardesai et al. can provide accurate estimates of the annular flow conditions in spite of their different working conditions.  相似文献

The convective heat transfer and pressure drop characteristics of flow in corrugated channels have been experimentally investigated. Experiments were performed on channels of uniform wall temperature and of fixed corrugation ratio over a range of Reynolds number, 3220 ≤ Re ≤ 9420. The effects of channel spacing and phase shift variations on heat transfer and pressure drop are discussed. Results of corrugated channels flow showed a significant heat transfer enhancement accompanied by increased pressure drop penalty. The average heat transfer coefficient and pressure drop enhanced by a factor of 2.6 up to 3.2 and 1.9 to 2.6 relative to those for parallel plate channel, respectively, depending upon the spacing and phase shift. The friction factor increased with increasing channel spacing and its phase shift. The effect of spacing variations on heat transfer and friction factor was more pronounced than that of phase shift variation, especially at high Reynolds number. Comparing results of the tested channels by considering the flow area goodness factor (j/f), it was better for corrugated channel with spacing ratio, ? ≤ 3.0 and of phase shift, Ø ≤ 90°. Comparisons of the present data with those available in literature are presented and discussed.  相似文献

Influence of triple helical tapes inserted for turbulent flow through a tube on heat transfer enhancement was studied experimentally. The triple helical tapes made of mild steel with different helix angles, α = 9°, 13°, 17°, and 21° were examined for Reynolds number ranging from 22,000 to 51,000. The experiment showed that the Nusselt number, effectiveness and friction factor for the inserts were found to be up to 4.5, 3.45 and 3.0 times, respectively, over the plain tube. The highest enhancement efficiency achieved was 3.7 for the inserts based on constant blower power. Finally, new correlations for predicting heat transfer and friction factor for turbulent flow through a circular tube fitted with the inserts were proposed.  相似文献

An experimental study was done for hydrodynamically fully developed and thermally developing laminar air flows in a horizontal circular tube has a 30 mm inside diameter and 900 mm heated length (L/D = 30) under a constant wall heat flux boundary condition, with different aluminum entrance section pipes (calming sections) having the same inside diameter as test section pipe but with variable lengths of 600 mm (L/D = 20), 1200 mm (L/D = 40), 1800 mm (L/D = 60), and 2400 mm (L/D = 80). The Reynolds number ranged from 400 to 1600 and the heat flux is varied from 60 W m− 2 to 400 W m− 2. This paper examines the effects of the entrance sections lengths and heating on the free and forced convection heat transfer process. The surface temperature data were measured and heat transfer rates at different heat flux levels as well as different Reynolds numbers were calculated and correlated in the form of relevant parameters. The buoyancy force has a significant effect on the heat transfer and the combined convection factor was approximately varied form 0.13 ≤ Gr/Re2 ≤ 7.125. It was found that the surface temperature increases as the entrance section length increases. It was inferred that the heat transfer decreases as the entrance section length increases due to the flow resistance and the mass flow rate. The proposed correlation was compared with available literature and with laminar forced convection and showed satisfactory agreement.  相似文献

A numerical investigation of laminar periodic flow and heat transfer in a three-dimensional isothermal-wall square channel fitted with 45° inclined baffles on one channel wall is carried out in the present work. The finite volume method is introduced and the SIMPLE algorithm has been implemented for all computations. The fluid flow and heat transfer characteristics are presented for Reynolds numbers ranging from 100 to 1200. The 45° baffle mounted only on the lower channel wall has a height of b and an axial pitch length (L) equal to channel height (H). Effects of flow blockage ratios, BR = b/H = 0.1–0.5, on heat transfer and pressure loss in the square channel are examined and also compared with the typical case of the transverse baffle (or 90° baffle). It is found that apart from the rise of Reynolds number, the increase in the blockage ratio with the attack angle (α) of 45° results in considerable increases in the Nusselt number and friction factor values. The use of the 45° baffle can help to generate a streamwise main vortex flow throughout the channel leading to fast and chaotic mixing of flow between the core and the wall regions. In addition, the computational results reveal that the significant increase in heat transfer rate is due to impingement jets induced by a longitudinal vortex pair (P-vortex) of flow, appearing on the upper, lower and baffle trailing end side walls. The appearance of vortex-induced impingement flows created by the baffles leads to the maximum thermal enhancement factor of about 2.2 at BR = 0.4 and Re = 1200. The enhancement factor of the 45° baffle investigated is found to be higher than that of the 90° baffle for all Reynolds numbers and baffle heights.  相似文献

This article is aimed at studying the heat transfer, friction loss and enhancement efficiency behaviors in a heat exchanger tube equipped with propeller type swirl generators at several pitch ratios (PR). The investigation is performed for the Reynolds number ranging from 4000 to 21,000 under a uniform heat flux condition. The experiments are also undertaken for several blade numbers of the propeller (N = 4, 6, and 8 blades) and for different blade angles (θ = 30°, 45°, and 60°). The influences of using the propeller rotating freely, on heat transfer enhancement, pressure loss, and enhancement efficiency, are reported. In the experiments, the swirl generator is used to create a decaying swirl in the tube flow. Average Nusselt numbers are determined and also compared with those obtained from other similar cases. The experimental results indicate that the tube with the propeller inserts provides considerable improvement of the heat transfer rate over the plain tube around 2.07 to 2.18 times for PR = 5, blade angles θ = 60° and N = 8. The use of the propeller leads to maximum enhancement efficiency up to 1.2. Thus, because of strong swirl or rotating flow, the propellers and their blade numbers become influential upon the heat transfer enhancement. The increase in friction factor from using the propeller is found to be 3–18 times over the plain tube. Correlations for Nusselt number (Nu) and friction factor (f) for the inserted tube are provided and the performance evaluation criterion to access the real benefits in using the swirl generators of the enhanced tube is also determined.  相似文献

New correlations of the two-phase multiplier and heat transfer coefficient of R134a during evaporation in a multiport minichannel at low mass flux are proposed. The experimental results were obtained from a test using a counter-flow tube-in-tube heat exchanger with refrigerant flowing in the inner tube and hot water in the gap between the outer and inner tubes. Test section is composed of the extruded multiport aluminium inner tube with an internal hydraulic diameter of 1.2 mm and an acrylic outer tube with an internal hydraulic diameter of 25.4 mm. The experiments were performed at heat fluxes between 10 and 35 kW/m2, and a refrigerant mass flux between 45 and 155 kg/(m2 s). Some physical parameters that influenced the frictional pressure drop and heat transfer coefficient are examined and discussed in detail. The pressure drop and heat transfer coefficient results are also compared with existing correlations. Finally, new correlations for predicting the frictional pressure drop and heat transfer coefficient at low mass fluxes are proposed.  相似文献

Local turbulent mixed convection heat transfer in inclined (from ? = 0° (horizontal position) till ? = 90° (vertical position)) flat channels for opposing flows was investigated for the case when only bottom wall is heated (unstably stratified flow conditions). Wide ranges of airflow parameters are covered: Re = 4 × 103-6.6 × 104, Grq = 4.7 × 107-6.3 × 1010, pressure p = 0.1; 0.2; 0.4; 0.7; 1.0 MPa. Correlation for calculation of heat transfer in inclined flat channels was suggested for the region without buoyancy instabilities. The experimental data were compared with the recent experimental data for inclined flat channels when upper wall is heated (stably stratified flow conditions).  相似文献

This paper presents the study of fluid flow and heat transfer in a solar air heater by using Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) which reduces time and cost. Lower side of collector plate is made rough with metal ribs of circular, square and triangular cross-section, having 60° inclinations to the air flow. The grit rib elements are fixed on the surface in staggered manner to form defined grid. The system and operating parameters studied are: e/Dh = 0.044, p/e = 17.5 and l/s = 1.72, for the Reynolds number range 3600-17,000. To validate CFD results, experimental investigations were carried out in the laboratory. It is found that experimental and CFD analysis results give the good agreement. The optimization of rib geometry and its angle of attack is also done. The square cross-section ribs with 58° angle of attack give maximum heat transfer. The percentage enhancement in the heat transfer for square plate over smooth surface is 30%.  相似文献

Experimental heat transfer coefficients for R-134a and R-600a in horizontal tubes with vertically positioned perforated strip-type inserts are reported in this paper. Tests were conducted using a single-tube evaporator test facility. The test section used was 2000 mm long, 10.6 mm inside diameter, horizontal, smooth copper tube with perforated strip-type inserts made from the same material (copper). Test parameters were varied as follows: heat flux 9.1-31.2 kW/m2; mass velocity 82.3-603.3 kg/m2 s; quality 0-0.85, and a saturation temperature of 6 °C. The flow pattern were identified for different test tubes and flow conditions. The heat transfer coefficients for R-600a were higher than those for R-134a. The heat transfer performance and pressure drop can be improved up to 2.5 and 1.5, respectively for a 96 perforated holes enhanced tube. All comparisons were based on the same nominal mass flow rate. Finally, an empirical correlation was developed.  相似文献
