This study deals with an experimental investigation for a counter-current slug flow absorber, working with ammonia–water mixture, for significantly low solution flow rate conditions that are required for operating as the GAX (generator absorber heat exchanger) cycle. It is confirmed that the slug flow absorber operates well at the low solution flow rate conditions. From visualization results of the flow pattern, frost flow just after the gas inlet, followed by slug flow with well-shaped Taylor bubble, is observed, while dry patch on the tube wall are not observed. The liquid film at the slug flow region has smooth gas–liquid interface structure without apparent wavy motion. The local heat transfer rate is measured by varying main parameters, namely, ammonia gas flow rate, solution flow rate, ammonia concentration of inlet solution and coolant inlet conditions. The heat transfer rate while absorption is taking place is higher than that after absorption has ended. The absorption length is greatly influenced by varying main parameters, due to flow conditions and thermal conditions.  相似文献

The objectives of this paper are to analyze a combined heat and mass transfer for an ammonia–water absorption process, and to carry out the parametric analysis to evaluate the effects of important variables such as heat and mass transfer areas on the absorption rate for two different absorption modes — falling film and bubble modes. A plate heat exchanger with an offset strip fin (OSF) in the coolant side was used to design the falling film and the bubble absorber. It was found that the local absorption rate of the bubble mode was always higher than that of the falling film model leading to about 48.7% smaller size of the heat exchanger than the falling film mode. For the falling film absorption mode, mass transfer resistance was dominant in the liquid flow while both heat and mass transfer resistances were considerable in the vapor flow. For the bubble absorption mode, mass transfer resistance was dominant in the liquid flow while heat transfer resistance was dominant in the vapor region. Heat transfer coefficients had a more significant effect on the heat exchanger size (absorption rate) in the falling film mode than in the bubble mode, while mass transfer coefficients had a more significant effect in the bubble mode than in the falling film mode.  相似文献

The objectives of this paper are to analyze the combined heat and mass transfer characteristics for the ammonia bubble absorption process and to study the effects of binary nanofluids and surfactants on the absorber size. The ammonia bubble absorbers applying binary nanofluids and surfactants are designed and parametric analyses are performed. In order to express the effects of binary nanofluids and/or surfactants on the absorption performance, the effective absorption ratios for each case are applied in the numerical model. The values of the effective absorption ratio are decided from the previous experimental correlations. The kinds and the concentrations of nano-particles and surfactants are considered as the key parameters. The considered surfactants are 2-ethyl-1-hexanol (2E1H), n-octanol, and 2-octanol and nano-particles are copper (Cu), copper oxide (CuO), and alumina (Al2O3). The results show that the application of binary nanofluids and surfactants can reduce the size of absorber significantly. In order to reach 16.5% ammonia solution under the considered conditions, for example, the addition of surfactants (2E1H, 700 ppm) can reduce the size of absorber up to 63.0%, while the application of binary nanofluids (Cu, 1000 ppm) can reduce it up to 54.4%. In addition, it is found that the effect of mass transfer resistance is more dominant than that of heat transfer resistance. That is, the enhancement of mass transfer performance is more effective than that of heat transfer performance.  相似文献

This study deals with a data reduction model for clarifying experimental results of a counter-current slug flow absorber, working with ammonia–water mixture, for significantly low solution flow rate conditions. The data reduction model to obtain the local heat and mass transfer coefficient on the liquid side is proposed by using the drift flux model to analyze the flow characteristics. The control volume method and heat and mass transfer analogy are employed to solve the combined heat and mass transfer problem. As a result, it is found that the local heat and mass transfer coefficient on the liquid side of the absorber is greatly influenced by the flow pattern. The heat and mass transfer coefficient at the frost flow region is higher than that at the slug flow region due to flow disturbance and random fluctuation. The solution flow rate and gas flow rate have influence on the local heat and mass transfer coefficient at the frost flow region. However, it is insignificant at the slug flow region.  相似文献

The objectives of this paper are to visualize the bubble behavior for an ammonia–water absorption process, and to study the effect of key parameters on ammonia–water bubble absorption performance. The orifice diameter, orifice number, liquid concentration and vapor velocity are considered as the key parameters. The departing bubbles tend to be spherical for surface tension dominant flow, and the bubbles tend to be hemispherical for inertial force dominant flow. A transition vapor Reynolds number is observed at a balance condition of internal absorption potential (by the concentration difference) and external absorption potential (by the vapor inlet mass flow rate). As the liquid concentration increases, the transition Reynolds number and the initial bubble diameter increase. The initial bubble diameter increases with an increase of the orifice diameter while it is not significantly affected by the number of orifices. Residence time of bubbles increases with an increase in the initial bubble diameter and the liquid concentration. This study presents a correlation of initial bubble diameter with ±20% error band. The correlation can be used to calculate the interfacial area in the design of ammonia-water bubble absorber.  相似文献

The hydrostatic principle and bubble pump technique are used in the two-fluid pumpless continuous vapour absorption refrigerator to create the circulations of the solution and refrigerant. In this paper, the bubble pump, which is the ‘heart' of this natural circulation type of refrigerator, has been investigated both analytically and experimentally. The bubble pump is modelled for intermittent slug flow of solution and vapour mixture. A test rig is built in glass to evaluate the performance of the bubble pump, to visualize the flow behavior and to validate the analytical model. Bubble pump tube diameter, pump lift, driving head and heat input are varied to analyze the pump performance. Results indicate that pumping ratio is nearly independent of the heat input, but increases with decrease in pump tube diameter, decrease in pump lift and increase in driving head.  相似文献

A mathematical model was given to predict the mass transfer between flow of a mixture of ammonia vapor and water vapor and a flow of aqua ammonia solution at any interface within a packed bed absorber (PBA). The model used the molal mass and heat transfer coefficients in both the liquid and gas phases, the interface molal solution concentration, interface molal vapor mixture concentration, interface temperature, and the heat transfer coefficients in the liquid and gas phases in both sides of the interface. The heat transfer coefficient was corrected to account for the mass transfer. The model was also used to derive a convenient mass transfer coefficient which was based on the bulk mass concentration, not on the molal concentration, and not directly dependent on the concentration at the interface. To complete the model, mathematical correlations were derived for several thermodynamic and physical properties of aqua ammonia solution and vapor mixture. A computer program was developed to demonstrate the use of the model to predict the rate of absorption of ammonia vapor at an interface within the packed bed at various operating conditions.  相似文献

In this paper, the energy and exergy analysis of single effect and series flow double effect water–lithium bromide absorption systems is presented. A computational model has been developed for the parametric investigation of these systems. Newly developed computationally efficient property equations of water–lithium bromide solution have been used in the computer code. The analysis involves the determination of effects of generator, absorber and evaporator temperatures on the energetic and exergetic performance of these systems. The effects of pressure drop between evaporator and absorber, and effectiveness of heat exchangers are also investigated. The performance parameters computed are coefficient of performance, exergy destruction, efficiency defects and exergetic efficiency. The results indicate that coefficient of performance of the single effect system lies in range of 0.6–0.75 and the corresponding value of coefficient of performance for the series flow double effect system lies in the range of 1–1.28. The effect of parameters such as temperature difference between heat source and generator and evaporator and cold room have also been investigated. Irreversibility is highest in the absorber in both systems when compared to other system components.  相似文献

A visual experimental platform for R124–DMAC bubble absorption in a vertical tube absorber was designed and built for this research. The bubble behaviors, flow pattern characteristics and distributions are observed and the bubble absorption heights (BAHs) were measured when the two kinds of different structure nozzles (single-orifice or multi-orifice nozzle) were applied in the absorber. The results showed that the BAH will heighten with increases of vapor flow rate and nozzle flow area. Based on visual experimental observations, the BAH or bubble absorption performance was significantly affected by the velocity of vapor from the nozzle rather than by the nozzle structure. The proportion of slug flow in BAH or the BAH can be decreased by using a multi-orifice nozzle in the absorber under the same flow area condition. However, the flow resistance of the vapor through the nozzle will increase, which has a negative action on the performance of absorption refrigeration systems. So, using multi-orifice nozzle does not improve the absorption performance of the bubble absorber under the same nozzle flow resistance condition.  相似文献

This paper examines a novel pressure drop mechanism as well as flow choking conditions that determine mass flow rate in refrigerant expansion devices. For this study, an ideal situation is considered where an expansion device such as a short tube orifice or a thermostatic expansion valve is modeled as an ideal isentropic nozzle. In addition, a liquid with a certain initial degree of superheat is first expanded in the converging nozzle down to the exit section without any phase transition. At the exit section where the metastable liquid jet flashes to produce a complex axisymmetric two-phase flow, a shock wave may terminate the overall expansion process. The model presented here is based on experimental observations in short nozzles, where the metastable liquid in the central core undergoes a sudden phase transition in the interfacial region, giving rise to a high-speed two-phase flow. A simple 1-D analysis of the radial evaporation wave based on the theory of discontinuities from gas dynamics leads to the Chapman–Jouguet (C-J) solution. Flow choking issues are examined and numerical examples are presented for three common refrigerants: R134a, R-22, and R-600a. Results suggest that the evaporation wave may be the flow controlling mechanism in these devices.  相似文献

The importance of heat and mass transfer additives in absorption chillers and heat pumps has been recognized for over three decades. However, a universally accepted model for the mechanisms responsible for enhanced absorption rates has yet to be proposed. The Marangoni effect—an instability arising from gradients in surface tension at the liquid-vapor interface—is generally accepted as the cause of the convective flows that enhance transfer rates. Certain surfactant additives can significantly improve absorption rates and thus reduce the overall transfer area required by a given machine. Any means available that can increase the efficiency and acceptability of absorption machines is to be welcomed, as this technology provides an alternative to vapor compression systems which is both environmentally friendly and more versatile with regards to energy sources. This study investigates the rate at which a surfactant additive adsorbs at a liquid-vapor interface. The residence time of the falling liquid solution in an absorber is quite short. An effective additive must not only reduce the surface tension of the solution; it must do so quickly enough to cause the Marangoni instability within the short absorption process time. The entrance region of an absorber features a freshly exposed interface at which no surfactant has adsorbed. A numerical model is used to analyze surfactant relaxation rates in a static film of additive-laced solution. Kinetic parameters for the combination of the working pair LiBr-H2O and the additive 2-ethyl-1-hexanol are derived from data in the literature for static and dynamic surface tension measurements. Bulk, interfacial and boundary parameters influencing relaxation rates are discussed for surfactant adsorption occurring in the absence of absorption, as well as for concurrent adsorption and stable vapor absorption. Initial solution conditions and absorption driving force are shown to impact the potential for instability in the effect they have on the rate of interfacial additive adsorption.  相似文献

Modeling of horizontal tube-bundle absorbers of absorption cooling systems   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
A simplified-coupled model was developed for the analysis and design of horizontal tubular absorbers. The analysis included film-flow over tubes, drop and jet flow between tubes and the serpentine flow of the coolant. The predictions of the model were compared with experimental data and the predictions of a numerical simulation model. Both models included inter-tube flow and absorption. There is good agreement between the predictions of the two models, particularly when spatially varying heat and mass transfer coefficients are used in the simplified model. There is reasonable trend-wise agreement between the predictions of the two models and the experimental data. The simplified model was used to extract heat and mass transfer coefficients from published experimental data. The approximate expressions obtained for the exponents in the simplified model agreed well with exact analysis. The modeling of round tubes as vertical plate segments result in significant deviations in the predictions of the solution temperature and concentration. Partial wetting of the absorber tubes by the solution has a marked effect on the predictions of the two models.  相似文献

An experimental research on the performance of the bubble pump for absorption refrigeration units was made. The bubble pump provides the drive for the absorption cycle and is a decisive component of the absorption refrigeration unit. The bubble pump's property determines the efficiency of the absorption refrigeration system. A continuous experimental system with different size of bubbles pumps were designed, constructed and successfully worked. The experiments were performed by changing some of the parameters affecting the bubble pump performance. The experimental results shows that the performance of the bubble pump depends mainly on the driving temperature, the solution head and the combining tube diameters. With the suitable size of section area of the pump tubes the net elevating height of solution is 2.5 times as high as the solution submergence. The lunate channel has several outstanding characteristics, such as low starting temperature (minimum 68 °C), wide operating temperature range and lower requirement for vacuum condition (under 10 kPa). Then the elevating capability of the bubble pump with lunate channel is much better than others currently. It would provide well foundation for practical applications.  相似文献

The objectives of this paper are to investigate the effect of surface roughness of micro-hatching tubes on the absorption performance and to develop an experimental correlation of Nusselt number as a function of the roughness. Two different micro-scale hatched tubes and a bare tube are tested to quantify the effect of the surface roughness on the absorption performance. The roughness of the micro-scale hatched tubes ranges 0.386–11.359 μm. The working fluid is H2O/LiBr solution with inlet concentration of 55, 58 and 61 wt.% of LiBr. The absorber heat exchanger consists of 24 horizontal tubes in a column, liquid distributor at the liquid inlet and the liquid reservoir at the bottom of the absorber. It was found that absorption performance of micro-hatching tubes was improved up to two times compared with the bare tube. An experimental correlation of Nusselt number was developed as a function of the film Reynolds number and the roughness with an error band of ±25%.  相似文献

An experimental investigation of the performance of a commercially available vapor absorption refrigeration (VAR) system is described. The natural gas-fired VAR system uses aqua-ammonia solution with ammonia as the refrigerant and water as the absorbent and has a rated cooling capacity of 10 kW. The unit was extensively modified to allow fluid pressures and temperatures to be measured at strategic points in the system. The mass flow rates of refrigerant, weak solution, and strong solution were also measured. The system as supplied incorporates air-cooled condenser and absorber units. Water-cooled absorber and condenser units were fitted to extend the VAR unit's range of operating conditions by varying the cooling water inlet temperature and/or flow rates to these units. The response of the refrigeration system to variations in chilled water inlet temperature, chilled water level in the evaporator drum, chilled water flow rate, and variable heat input are presented.  相似文献

The objectives of this paper are to examine the effect of nano particles on the bubble type absorption by experiment and to find the optimal conditions to design highly effective compact absorber for NH3/H2O absorption system. The initial concentrations of NH3/H2O solution and the kinds and the concentrations of nano particles are considered as key parameters. The results show that the addition of nano particles enhances the absorption performance up to 3.21 times. Moreover, the absorption rate increases with increasing concentration of nano particles and the nano particles are more effective for lower absorption potential solution. The potential enhancement mechanism for binary nanofluid is suggested. The experimental correlations of the effective absorption ratio for each nano particles, Cu, CuO, and Al2O3, are suggested within ±10% error-band.  相似文献

A lumped-parameter dynamic simulation of a single-effect ammonia–water absorption chiller is performed. Modeling is based on the continuity of species constituting the ammonia–water mixture and the conservation of energy for each component of the absorption chiller. Ordinary differential equations governing the response of each component and the algebraic equations describing the constitutive relation are solved in parallel by numerical integration. The model has been applied to a commercially available 10.5 kW absorption chiller to study the transients of temperature, pressure, concentration, and void fraction of each component during the start-up operation. The time constant of the absorption chiller is also investigated. The parameters considered are the bulk concentration of the ammonia–water solution, the mass of the solution filled, and the volumes of key components of the absorption chiller. In addition, the reduction of the time constant by a stepwise turn-up and turn-down of the flue gas flow rate during the primary stage of start-up period is demonstrated.  相似文献

Numerical solutions have been obtained for the system of equations of momentum, heat and mass transfer describing the absorption of a refrigerant vapour from a Taylor bubble into the refrigerant-absorbent solution film around the bubble. The numerical results are compared with Nusselt's solution of the energy equation and with the penetration theory solution of the mass diffusion variation. Experimental data have been collected in vertical tubular absorbers in the slug flow region with the systems ammonia-lithium nitrate and ammonia-sodium thiocyanate. Four different absorber tubes have been tested with internal diameters of 10, 15, 20, and 25 mm. These data are compared with the numerical and theoretical results. The effect of the bubble nose on mass transfer is studied. Typical temperature profiles during the absorption process in absorption cooling/heating systems are shown.  相似文献

The objectives of this paper are to study the effect of key parameters on absorption performance and to develop an experimental correlation of mass transfer coefficient for ammonia–water bubble absorption. The orifice diameter, liquid concentration and vapor velocity are considered as the key parameters. This study successfully visualized the bubble behavior and measured the volumetric diameter of bubbles during the bubble absorption process. The bubble absorption is grouped into two processes, bubble growth (process I) and bubble disappearance (process II), respectively. The following conclusions were drawn from the present study. A new experimental correlation for the volumetric bubble diameter was proposed with ±15% error band, which could be applied to calculate the mass transfer coefficient. The mass transfer coefficient increased with a decrease of the liquid concentration. In process II, the mass transfer coefficient increased with an increase of the Galileo number. Finally, experimental correlations of mass transfer coefficient were developed for processes I and II with ±18% error bands.  相似文献

The objectives of this paper are to visualize the bubble behavior by shadow graphic method, to examine the effect of surfactants on the bubble type absorption, and to find the optimal conditions to design highly effective compact absorber for NH3/H2O absorption system. The initial concentrations of NH3/H2O solution and the kinds and the concentrations of surfactants are considered as key parameters. By measuring the absorption rate for each condition, two effects of the addition of surfactants, the Marangoni and the barrier effect, are compared with each other. The results show that the addition of surfactant enhances the absorption performance up to 4.81 times. The experimental correlations of the effective absorption ratio for each surfactant, 2-ethyl-1-hexanol, n-octanol, and 2-octanol, are suggested within ±15, ±10, and ±10%, respectively.  相似文献
