Fe–Ni–RE self-fluxing alloy powders were flame sprayed onto 1045 carbon steel. The tribological properties of Fe–Ni–RE alloy coatings under dry sliding against SAE52100 steel at ambient conditions were studied on an Optimol SRV oscillating friction and wear tester in a ball-on-disc contact configuration. Effects of load and sliding speed on tribological properties of the Fe–Ni–RE coatings were investigated. The worn surfaces of the Fe–Ni–RE alloy coatings were examined with a scanning electron microscopy(SEM) and an energy-dispersive spectroscopy(EDS). It was found that the Fe–Ni–RE alloy coatings had better wear resistance than the SAE52100 steel. An adhered oxide debris layer was formed on the worn surface in friction. Area of the friction layer varied with variety of sliding speed, but did not vary with load. The oxide layer contributed to decreased wear, but increased friction. Wear rate of the material increased with the load, but dramatically decreased at first and then slightly decreased the sliding speed. The friction coefficient of the material was 0.40-0.58, and decreased slightly with the load, but increased with sliding speed at first, and then tended to be a constant value. Wear mechanism of the coatings was oxidation wear and a large amount of counterpart material was transferred to the coatings.  相似文献

In this work, polyetheretherketone (PEEK) and PEEK/SiC-composite coatings were deposited on Al substrates using a printing technique to improve their surfaces performance. The objective of this work was to investigate coatings friction and wear behaviour. Especially, the effect of sliding velocity and applied load on coatings friction coefficient and wear rate was evaluated in range of 0.2-1.4 m/s and 1-9 N, respectively. Compared to Al substrate, the coated samples exhibit excellent friction coefficient and wear rate. For PEEK coating, under an applied load of 1 N, the increase in sliding velocity can result in decreasing of friction coefficient at a cost of wear resistance. Under a load of 9 N, however, PEEK coating exhibits the highest friction coefficient and wear rate at an intermediate velocity. These influences appear to be mainly ascribed to the influence of contact temperature of the two relative sliding parts. In most test conditions, the composite coating exhibits better wear resistance and a little higher friction coefficient. SiC reinforcement in composite coating plays a combined role. First of all, it might lead to energy dissipation for activation of fracture occurred on the interface of PEEK and the powders. Moreover, it can reduce coating ploughs and the adhesion between the two relative sliding parts.  相似文献

This paper focuses on coatings based on poly(ether ether ketone) (PEEK) applied to metal substrates and their tribological investigation. Short carbon fibres (SCF), graphite, and 300 nm titanium dioxide (TiO2) and zinc sulphide (ZnS) particles were used as filler materials for the PEEK. These filler materials and their combinations were found to have a significant influence on the tribological behaviour of the corresponding PEEK compounds. One of the compounds (PEEK6) was found, especially at higher temperatures and under higher normal loads, to be a good coating material showing superior tribological behaviour. For PEEK6, a specific wear rate and a coefficient of friction (COF) lower than those for the best commercially available PEEK compound (PEEK4) were measured. For specific test parameters, PEEK6 showed a COF of less than 0.1. The tribological results were also compared with those of a conventional sliding bearing material based on poly(vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF).  相似文献

In this paper, the friction behaviour and wear mechanism of electroless Ni–P matrix with PTFE and/or SiC particles composite coating are investigated by virtue of ring-on-disk wear machine at a high load of 150 N. The worn surface, wear debris and the composition changes after wear were characterized using scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and energy-dispersive analysis of X-ray (EDAX). By comparison with Ni–P and Ni–P–SiC coatings, the results indicated that the combination of a PTFE-rich mechanical mixed layer (PRMML) formed on the worn surface and hard SiC were responsible for the good tribological properties of the hybrid Ni–P–PTFE–SiC composites at high load. After heat treatment at 400 °C for 1 h, the wear rate of Ni–P matrix composites decreased with corresponding increase in microhardness. During sliding, an obvious decrease in the temperature rise with PTFE addition was attributed to the good anti-friction of PTFE.  相似文献

Two grades of WC–10 wt.%Co cemented carbide with or without addition of Cr3C2/VC grain growth inhibitor during liquid phase sintering were produced with the goal to investigate their reciprocating sliding friction and wear behaviour against WC–6 wt.%Co cemented carbide under unlubricated conditions. The tribological characteristics were obtained on a Plint TE77 tribometer using distinctive normal contact loads. The generated wear tracks were analyzed by scanning electron microscopy and quantified topographically using surface scanning equipment. The post-mortem obtained wear volumes were compared to the online assessed wear. Correlations between wear volume, wear rate and coefficient of friction on the one hand and sliding distance and microstructural properties on the other hand were determined, revealing a significant influence of Cr3C2/VC on the friction characteristics and wear performance.  相似文献

The friction and wear properties of TiC–NiMo/steel rubbing pairs were investigated under dry condition. The sliding wear tests were carried out on the testing device at a velocity of 2.2 m/s and a load of 40 N. The volume wear increases with increase of the sliding distance as predicted by Archard’s equation. The wear coefficient of the cermets reduces with the increase of TiC and Mo content in the composite. The study has shown that the coefficient of friction was approximately the same for all the samples. The main wear mechanism in the TiC–NiMo cermets was micro-abrasion (polishing) and adhesive wear. At the initial stages of wear, adhesive wear characteristics featured by mild scratching and plastic smearing were observed on the worn surface, but at the later stages, contact fatigue failure of a relatively thick surface layer takes place.

It has been recognized that wear debris contains extensive information about wear and friction of materials. Investigation of wear debris is important for tribological research. In order to find out an effective way that is able to diagnose and predict the wear state of polymers, the authors investigated the relationship between the wear debris morphology and the wear behaviour of the bulk material. Polyetheretherketone (PEEK) was employed as the model material. Its sliding wear and friction properties were measured by means of a pin-on-disc apparatus. At a constant sliding velocity of 1 m s−1, the specific wear rate was independent of load under lower loading conditions (1–4 MPa) but increased with a rise in load under higher loading conditions (4–8 MPa). The coefficient of friction was insensitive to the variation of contact pressure. The possible mechanisms involved were analysed on the basis of the wear debris morphology as well as the wear performance. Fractal geometry, which describes non-Euclidean objects, was applied to the quantitative analysis of the boundary texture of the wear debris due to the fact that the qualitative assessment of the wear debris morphology was not effective enough to reflect the geometrical variation of the fragmental shapes. The experimental results demonstrated that the wear debris were fractals, and could be characterized with the fractal dimensions which were determined by the slit island method. In addition, it was found that the fractal dimension of the wear debris was closely related to the wear behaviour of PEEK, and can be regarded as a measure of wear rate.  相似文献

Bronze–graphite composite was prepared using powder metallurgy. The friction and wear behaviors of the resulting composites in dry- and water-lubricated sliding against a stainless steel were comparatively investigated on an MM-200 friction and wear tester in a ring-on-block contact configuration. The wear mechanisms of the bronze–graphite composite were discussed based on examination of the worn surface morphologies of both the composite block and the stainless steel ring by means of scanning electron microscopy equipped with an energy dispersion spectrometry and on determination of some typical elements on the worn surfaces by means of X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. It was found that the friction coefficient was higher under water lubrication than that under dry sliding and it showed margined change with increasing load under the both sliding conditions. A considerably decreased wear rate of the bronze–graphite composite was registered under water-lubricated sliding than under dry sliding, though it rose significantly at a relatively higher load. This was attributed to the hindered transfer of the composite onto the counterpart steel surface under water-lubricated sliding and the cooling effect of the water as a lubricant, while its stronger transfer onto the steel surface accounted for its higher wear rate under dry sliding. Thus, the bronze–graphite composite with much better wear-resistance under water-lubricated sliding than under dry sliding against the stainless steel could be a potential candidate as the tribo-material in aqueous environment.  相似文献

The composites of Ni–Cr–W–Al–Ti–MoS2 with different adding amount of molybdenum disulfide (6–20 wt.%) were prepared by powder metallurgy (P/M) method. Their mechanical properties and tribological properties from room temperature to 600 °C were tested by a pin-on-disk tribometer. The effects of amounts of molybdenum disulfide, temperature, load, and speed on the friction and wear properties of composite were discussed. Besides, the tribological properties against different counterface materials, such as alumina, silicon nitride and nickel-iron-sulfide alloys were also investigated. Results indicated that the molybdenum disulfide was decomposed during the hot-press process and the eutectic sulfides of chromium were formed. The hardness and anti-bending strength can be improved by adding 6 wt.% molybdenum disulfide due to reinforcement of molybdenum. The friction coefficients and wear rates of composites decrease with the increase of adding amount of molybdenum disulfide until a critical value of 12 wt.%. The composite with 12% MoS2 shows the optimum friction and wear properties over the temperature range of RT 600 °C. The friction coefficients of composite with 12% MoS2 decrease with the increase of temperature, load, and sliding speed, while the wear rates increase with the increasing temperature and are insensitive to the sliding speed and load. The friction coefficients of less than 0.20 at 600 °C and mean wear rates of 10−5 mm3/N m are obtained when rubbing against alumina due to the lubrication of sulfide films and glaze layer formed on the friction surface at high temperature, while a relatively low wear rate of around 10−6 mm3/N m presents when rubbing against nickel-iron-sulfide alloys. At high temperature, wear rates of composite containing sulfide are inversely proportional to friction coefficients approximately.  相似文献

This paper describes the results of dry sliding wear tests of aluminium alloy (Al–Zn–Mg) and aluminium (Al–Zn–Mg)–10, 15 and 25 wt.% SiCp composite was examined under varying applied pressure (0.2 to 2.0 MPa) at a fixed sliding speed of 3.35 m/s. The sliding wear behaviour was studied using pin-on-disc apparatus against EN32 steel counter surface, giving emphasis on the parameters such as coefficient of friction, rise in temperature, wear and seizure resistance as a function of sliding distance and applied pressure. It was observed that the wear rate of the alloy was noted to be significantly higher than that of the composite and is suppressed further due to addition of silicon carbide particles. The temperature rise near the contacting surfaces and the coefficient of friction followed reversed trend. Detailed studies of wear surfaces and subsurface deformation have been carried out. The wear mechanism was studied through worn surfaces and microscopic examination of the developed wear tracks. The wear mechanism strongly dictated by the formation and stability of oxide layer, mechanically mixed layer (MML) and subsurface deformation and cracking. The overall results indicate that the aluminium alloy–silicon carbide particle composite could be considered as an excellent material where high strength and wear resistance are of prime importance.  相似文献

The chemical structure and tribological behaviour of Ti–6Al–4V plasma source ion implanted with nitrogen then DLC-coated in an acetylene plus hydrogen-glow discharge (bias voltage −10 to −30 kV) were investigated. The as-modified samples have a TiN/H:DLC multilayer architecture (coating resistivity 1.6×109 to 2.4×1011 Ω/cm) and exhibit higher hardness, especially at low loads or plastic penetrations in the order of deposition bias voltage −10, −20 and −30 kV. At a lower contact load (1 N) and higher sliding speed (0.05 m/s), frictional properties in most cases improved, as did wear properties. At a higher contact load (5 N) and lower sliding speed (0.04 m/s), friction showed almost no improvement, and wear properties deteriorated. When the material of the counterbody was then changed from AISI 52100 to Ti–6Al–4V modified as the disc (contact load 5 N unchanged, sliding speed decreased), the friction coefficient decreased (but showed no improvement compared with the unmodified sample), while wear properties deteriorated further, and wear was changed from just the disc to both disc and ball, abrasive and adhesive dominated. Transfer films, mainly made up of wear debris transferred from the disc wear surfaces, were formed on the wear scars of the counterbodies. The deterioration of wear properties of the modified samples at the higher contact load is considered to be caused by the “thin ice” effect.  相似文献

The tribological behaviour of oil‐lubricated steel‐alumina sliding pairs was investigated using a ball‐on‐disc tribometer at room temperature. Commercial bearing balls of 10 mm diameter were mated to 99.7% Al2O3 discs, and additive‐free mineral oil was fed into the contact area. The sliding speed and the applied normal load were varied, and the initial surface roughness of the Al2O3 disc was altered using different polishing and grinding procedures. The results showed that the surface roughness of the ceramic discs dominated the tribological behaviour under the given experimental conditions. The sliding speed as well as the normal load showed less effect on the friction behaviour, but the amount of wear depended strongly on the normal load. From the results it was concluded that improvement of the surface roughness and optimised surface machining of the ceramic material can be essential for improving the tribological performance for boundary‐lubricated steel‐ceramic sliding pairs.  相似文献

Selecting the proper material and surface treatment methods for elements is one of the essential problems when designing water hydraulic components due to the corrosiveness and poor lubricity of water. Experimental investigation was performed to study the tribological properties of ion-nitrided 2Cr13, a kind of martensitic stainless steel, sliding on carbon fiber–reinforced polyetheretherketone (CFRPEEK). The influence of factors such as sliding velocity, load, and lubrication condition were studied through experiments mainly under tap water lubrication. It was found that the friction coefficients are influenced by both the pressure and the sliding velocity. In contrast, the friction coefficients between quenched 2Cr13 and CFRPEEK are much higher. Compared to water lubrication, both the wear rate and friction coefficients increase in the case of dry friction. Wear mainly occurred on the CFRPEEK. By examining the worn surfaces of the specimens, it was found that adhesion was the main form of wear of the PEEK composite.  相似文献

Polyetheretherketone (PEEK) becomes of great interest to applications as bearing and slider materials. In this paper, PEEK coatings with three kinds of crystallinities were deposited using the flame spray process. Employing a uniform design experiment, the friction and wear behavior of the three PEEK coatings were systematically investigated under dry sliding conditions against a 100C6 counterbody on a ball-on-disc arrangement for several loads and sliding velocities. For the three coatings, the friction coefficient significantly followed the normal distribution. The average friction coefficients appeared to decrease while increasing the sliding velocity, but were insensitive to the applied load in the range of investigation. Among the three coatings, the higher the crystallinity of the coating, the lower its average friction coefficient was. The wear rate of the coating with the lowest crystallinity decreased with an increase in the load and a decrease in the sliding velocity. The wear rate of the coating with the intermediate crystallinity decreased with an increase in the load, but increased with an increase in the sliding velocity at lower loads, and then decreased with an increase in the velocity at higher loads. The wear rate of the coating with the highest crystallinity decreased with the increase of both the load and the sliding velocity. The wear mechanisms of the different coatings are explained in terms of plastic deformation, plogh marks and fatigue tearing.  相似文献

The study of plastic deformation and damage accumulation below the contact surfaces is important in order to understand the dry sliding wear behaviour of aluminum alloys. Experimental evidence exists for the nucleation of voids and microcracks around second phase particles in the material layers adjacent to the contact surface. Propagation of these cracks at a certain depth below the surface may lead to the creation of long, thin plate-like wear debris particles. This work studied the deformation processes during sliding wear by means of metallographic observations of subsurface layers in an Al–7% Si (A356 Al) alloy and by finite element analyses. Specifically, the accumulation of subsurface stresses and strains was investigated, using a coupled structural-thermal finite element model based on the Voce-type exponential stress–strain relationship obtained from the sliding wear tests. Additionally, temperature and strain rate effects were taken into account using a constitutive equation based on Johnson–Cook and Cowper–Symonds models.Accordingly during sliding, the flow stress in subsurface layers increased rapidly and reached a saturation stress after a finite number of sliding contacts. The variation of hydrostatic pressure for different loading conditions was also determined as a function of sliding passes: as the sliding process progressed from the first to the seventh contacts, the hydrostatic pressure at the surface increased from 1150 to 1300 MPa. A total temperature increase of 45 K occurred at the surface after the seventh sliding contact. A debris formation model was proposed in which the presence of a maximum damage gradient at critical depth was considered. The model showed that, with a sliding velocity of 10 m/s, and a normal load of 150 N per unit thickness in mm, the material location where the maximum rate of damage occurred corresponded to a normalized depth (depth/counterface diameter) of 0.060. Increasing the load to 250 N/mm caused an increase in the critical depth of damage (a normalized depth of 0.085). Comparisons with the experimental subsurface crack observations indicate that the proposed damage rate calculations provide a good estimation of the subsurface crack propagation depth.  相似文献

The friction and wear behaviour of polyetheretherketone (PEEK) composites, incorporating different amounts of short carbon fibres with different surface treatments, was studied under dry sliding conditions against smooth steel on a pin-on-disc apparatus at different temperatures. Wear of the composites was reduced considerably in all cases, but, whatever the surface treatment, wear increased with increasing temperature for all proportions off fibres. For minimum friction coefficient there was an optimum proportion of fibre volume fraction of about 10 vol.%. The effect of the fibre surface treatment was not significant for the tribological behaviour of the PEEK composites. To predict wear performance, a wear model proposed by Friedrich and Voss seemed to work properly, and, furthermore, a friction model was developed to predict the friction behaviour of PEEK composites with short carbon fibres.  相似文献
