Fault diagnosis and monitoring are very important for complex chemical process. There are numerous methods that have been studied in this field, in which the effective visualization method is still challenging. In order to get a better visualization effect, a novel fault diagnosis method which combines self-organizing map (SOM) with Fisher discriminant analysis (FDA) is proposed. FDA can reduce the dimension of the data in terms of maximizing the separability of the classes. After feature extraction by FDA, SOM can distinguish the different states on the output map clearly and it can also be employed to monitor abnormal states. Tennessee Eastman (TE) process is em- ployed to illustrate the fault diagnosis and monitoring performance of the proposed method. The result shows that the SOM integrated with FDA method is efficient and capable for real-time monitoring and fault diagnosis in complex chemical process.  相似文献

An integrated method for identifying the propagation of multi-loop process oscillations and their source location is proposed in this paper. Oscillatory process loop variables are automatically selected based on the component-related ratio index and a mixing matrix, both of which are obtained in data preprocessing by spectral independent component analysis. The complex causality among oscillatory process variables is then revealed by Granger causality test and is visualized in the form of causality diagram. The simplification of causal connectivity in the diagram is performed according to the understanding of process knowledge and the final simplest causality diagram, which represents the main oscillation propagation paths, is achieved by the automated cutting-off thresh-old search, with which less significant causality pathways are filtered out. The source of the oscillation disturbance can be identified intuitively through the final causality diagram. Both simulated and real plant data tests are presented to demonstrate the effectiveness and feasibility of the proposed method.  相似文献

Microreaction technology is one of the most innovative and rapid developing fields in chemical engineering, synthesis and process technology. Many expectations toward enhanced product selectivity, yield and purity, improved safety, and access to new products and processes are directed to the microreaction technology. Microfluidic mixer is the most important component in microfluidic devices. Based on various principles, active and passive micromixers have been designed and investigated. This review is focused on the recent developments in microfluidic mixers. An overview of the flow phenomena and mixing characteristics in active and passive micromixers is presented, including the types of physical phenomena and their utilization in micromixers. Due to the simple fabrication technology and the easy implementation in a complex microfluidic system, T-micromixer is highlighted as an example to illustrate the effect of design and operating parameters on mixing efficiency and fuid flow inside microfluidic mixers.  相似文献

Traditional principal component analysis (PCA) is a second-order method and lacks the ability to provide higher-order representations for data variables. Recently, a statistics pattern analysis (SPA) framework has been incor-porated into PCA model to make full use of various statistics of data variables effectively. However, these methods omit the local information, which is also important for process monitoring and fault diagnosis. In this paper, a local and global statistics pattern analysis (LGSPA) method, which integrates SPA framework and locality pre-serving projections within the PCA, is proposed to utilize various statistics and preserve both local and global in-formation in the observed data. For the purpose of fault detection, two monitoring indices are constructed based on the LGSPA model. In order to identify fault variables, an improved reconstruction based contribution (IRBC) plot based on LGSPA model is proposed to locate fault variables. The RBC of various statistics of original process variables to the monitoring indices is calculated with the proposed RBC method. Based on the calculated RBC of process variables' statistics, a new contribution of process variables is built to locate fault variables. The simula-tion results on a simple six-variable system and a continuous stirred tank reactor system demonstrate that the proposed fault diagnosis method can effectively detect fault and distinguish the fault variables from normal variables.  相似文献

To reduce the variations of the production process in penicillin cultivations, a rolling multivariate statistical approach based on multiway principle component analysis (MPCA) is developed and used for fault diagnosis of penicillin cultivations. Using the moving data windows technique, the static MPCA is extended for use in dynamic process performance monitoring. The control chart is set up using the historical data collected from the past successful batches, thereby resulting in simplification of monitoring charts, easy tracking of the progress in each batch run, and monitoring the occurrence of the observable upsets. Data from the commercial-scale penicillin fermentation process are used to develop the rolling model. Using this method, faults are detected in real time and the corresponding measurements of these faults are directly made through inspection of a few simple plots (t-chart, SPE-chart, and T2-chart). Thus, the present methodology allows the process operator to actively monitor the data from several cultivations simultaneously.  相似文献

Currently, some fault prognosis technology occasionally has relatively unsatisfied performance especially for in-cipient faults in nonlinear processes duo to their large time delay and complex internal connection. To overcome this deficiency, multivariate time delay analysis is incorporated into the high sensitive local kernel principal com-ponent analysis. In this approach, mutual information estimation and Bayesian information criterion (BIC) are separately used to acquire the correlation degree and time delay of the process variables. Moreover, in order to achieve prediction, time series prediction by back propagation (BP) network is applied whose input is multivar-iate correlated time series other than the original time series. Then the multivariate time delayed series and future values obtained by time series prediction are combined to construct the input of local kernel principal component analysis (LKPCA) model for incipient fault prognosis. The new method has been exemplified in a sim-ple nonlinear process and the complicated Tennessee Eastman (TE) benchmark process. The results indicate that the new method has superiority in the fault prognosis sensitivity over other traditional fault prognosis methods. ? 2016 The Chemical Industry and Engineering Society of China, and Chemical Industry Press. In chemical process, a large number of measured and manipulated variables are highly correlated. Principal com-ponent analysis (PCA) is widely applied as a dimension reduction technique for capturing strong correlation un-derlying in the process measurements. However, it is difficult for PCA based fault detection results to be interpreted physical y and to provide support for isolation. Some approaches incorporating process knowledge are developed, but the information is always shortage and deficient in practice. Therefore, this work proposes an adaptive partitioning PCA algorithm entirely based on operation data. The process feature space is partitioned into several sub-feature spaces. Constructed sub-block models can not only reflect the local behavior of process change, namely to grasp the intrinsic local information underlying the process changes, but also improve the fault detection and isolation through the combination of local fault detection results and reduction of smearing effect. The method is demonstrated in TE process, and the results show that the new method is much better in fault detection and isolation compared to conventional PCA method.  相似文献

A novel systematic quality monitoring and prediction method based on Fisher discriminant analysis (FDA) and kernel regression is proposed. The FDA method is first used for quality monitoring. If the process is under normal condition, then kernel regression is further used for quality prediction and estimation. If faults have occurred, the contribution plot in the fault feature direction is used for fault diagnosis. The proposed method can effectively detect the fault and has better ability to predict the response variables than principle component regression (PCR) and partial least squares (PLS). Application results to the industrial fluid catalytic cracking unit (FCCU) show the effectiveness of the proposed method.  相似文献

Qualitative algebraic equations are the basis of qualitative simulation, which are used to express the dynamic behavior of steady-state continuous processes. When the values and operation of qualitative variables are redefined, qualitative algebraic equations can be transformed into signed direct graphs, which are frequently used to predict the trend of dynamic changes. However,it is difficult to use traditional qualitative algebra methods based on artificial trial and error to solve a complex problem for dynamic trends. An important aspect of modern qualitative algebra is to model and characterize complex systems with the corresponding computer-aided automatic reasoning. In this study,a qualitative affection equation based on multiple conditions is proposed, which enables the signed di-rect graphs to describe complex systems better and improves the fault diagnosis resolution. The application to an industrial case shows that the method performs well.  相似文献

Nonlinear characteristic fault detection and diagnosis method based on higher-order statistical (HOS) is an effec-tive data-driven method, but the calculation costs much for a large-scale process control system. An HOS-ISM fault diagnosis framework combining interpretative structural model (ISM) and HOS is proposed:(1) the adja-cency matrix is determined by partial correlation coefficient;(2) the modified adjacency matrix is defined by directed graph with prior knowledge of process piping and instrument diagram;(3) interpretative structural for large-scale process control system is built by this ISM method;and (4) non-Gaussianity index, nonlinearity index, and total nonlinearity index are calculated dynamical y based on interpretative structural to effectively eliminate uncertainty of the nonlinear characteristic diagnostic method with reasonable sampling period and data window. The proposed HOS-ISM fault diagnosis framework is verified by the Tennessee Eastman process and presents improvement for highly non-linear characteristic for selected fault cases.  相似文献

This work considers the problem of designing an active fault‐isolation scheme for nonlinear process systems subject to uncertainty. The faults under consideration include bounded actuator faults and process disturbances. The key idea of the proposed method is to exploit the nonlinear way that faults affect the process evolution through supervisory feedback control. To this end, a dedicated fault‐isolation residual and its time‐varying threshold are generated for each fault by treating other faults as disturbances. A fault is isolated when the corresponding residual breaches its threshold. These residuals, however, may not be sensitive to faults in the operating region under nominal operation. To make these residuals sensitive to faults, a switching rule is designed to drive the process states, upon detection of a fault, to move toward an operating point that, for any given fault, results in the reduction of the effect of other faults on the evolution of the same process state. This idea is then generalized to sequentially operate the process at multiple operating points that facilitate isolation of different faults for the case where the residuals are not simultaneously sensitive to faults at a single operating point. The effectiveness of the proposed active fault‐isolation scheme is illustrated using a chemical reactor example and demonstrated through application to a solution copolymerization of methyl methacrylate and vinyl acetate. © 2013 American Institute of Chemical Engineers AIChE J, 59: 2435–2453, 2013  相似文献

This paper investigates the challenging problem of diagnosing novel faults whose fault mechanisms and relevant historical data are not available. Most existing fault diagnosis systems are incapable to explain root causes for unanticipated, novel faults, because they rely on either models or historical data of known faulty conditions. To address this issue we propose a new framework for novel fault diagnosis, which integrates causal reasoning on signed digraph models with multivariate statistical process monitoring. The prerequisites for our approach include historical data of normal process behavior and qualitative cause–effect relationships that can be derived from process flow diagrams. In this new approach, a set of candidate root nodes is identified first via qualitative reasoning on signed digraph; then quantitative local consistency tests are implemented for each candidate based on multivariate statistical process monitoring techniques; finally, using the resulting multiple local residuals, diagnosis is performed based on the exoneration principle. The cause–effect relationships in the digraph enable automatic variable selection and the local residual interpretations for statistical monitoring. The effectiveness of this new approach is demonstrated using numerical examples based on the Tennessee Eastman process data.  相似文献

Process transitions due to startup, shutdown, product slate changes, and feedstock changes are frequent in the process industry. Experienced operators usually execute transitions in the manual mode as transitions may involve unusual conditions and nonlinear process behavior. Processes are therefore more prone to faults as well as inadvertent operator errors during transitions. Fault detection during transition is critical as faults can lead to abnormal situations and even cause accidents. This paper proposes a model-based fault detection scheme that involves decomposition of nonlinear transient systems into multiple linear modeling regimes. Kalman filters and open-loop observers are used for state estimation and residual generation based on the resulting linear models. Analysis of residuals using thresholds, faults tags, and logic charts enables on-line detection and isolation of faults. The multi-linear model-based fault detection technique has been implemented using Matlab and successfully tested to detect process faults and operator errors during the startup transition of highly nonlinear pH neutralization reactor in the laboratory.  相似文献

Distributed output‐feedback fault detection and isolation (FDI) of nonlinear cascade process networks that can be divided into subsystems is considered. Based on the assumption that an exponentially convergent estimator exists for each subsystem, a distributed state estimation system is developed. In the distributed state estimation system, a compensator is designed for each subsystem to compensate for subsystem interaction and the estimators for subsystems communicate to exchange information. It is shown that when there is no fault, the estimation error of the distributed estimation system converges to zero in the absence of system disturbances and measurement noise. For each subsystem, a state predictor is also designed to provide subsystem state predictions. A residual generator is designed for each subsystem based on subsystem state estimates given by the distributed state estimation system and subsystem state predictions given by the predictor. A subsystem residual generator generates two residual sequences, which act as references for FDI. A distributed FDI mechanism is proposed based on residuals. The proposed approach is able to handle both actuator faults and sensor faults by evaluating the residual signals. A chemical process example is introduced to demonstrate the effectiveness of the distributed FDI mechanism. © 2017 American Institute of Chemical Engineers AIChE J, 63: 4329–4342, 2017  相似文献

Startup, shutdown and other transitions are integral to batch and continuous process operations. Operators usually execute transitions in manual mode. Processes are therefore prone to operator errors in addition to process faults during transitions. If undetected, such abnormalities can lead to process downtime and in the worst case, accidents. Although essential, fault detection during transitions has received little attention in literature. This paper presents a novel multiple filters and observers based fault detection scheme using (i) a nonlinear process model, and (ii) knowledge of the standard operating procedure for executing the transition. Extended Kalman filters, Kalman filters, and open-loop observers are used to estimate process states during the transition and generate residuals. These residuals indicate deviations from normal operation due to process faults and operator errors. The model-based scheme has been implemented in Matlab/Simulink and found to successfully detect faults during the startup of an experimental pH neutralization CSTR.  相似文献

A common approach in fault diagnosis is monitoring the deviations of measured variables from the values at normal operations to identify the root causes of faults. When the number of conceivable faults is larger than that of predictive variables, conventional approaches can yield ambiguous diagnosis results including multiple fault candidates. To address the issue, this work proposes a fault magnitude based strategy. Signed digraph is first used to identify qualitative relationships between process variables and faults. Empirical models for predicting process variables under assumed faults are then constructed with support vector regression (SVR). Fault magnitude data are projected onto principal components subspace, and the mapping from scores to fault magnitudes is learned via SVR. This model can estimate fault magnitudes and discriminate a true fault among multiple candidates when different fault magnitudes yield distinguishable responses in the monitored variables. The efficacy of the proposed approach is illustrated on an actuator benchmark problem.  相似文献

This paper presents a methodology for the design of an integrated fault detection and fault-tolerant control (FD-FTC) architecture for particulate processes described by population balance models (PBMs) with control constraints, actuator faults and a limited number of process measurements. The architecture integrates model-based fault detection, state estimation, nonlinear feedback and supervisory control on the basis of an appropriate reduced-order model that captures the dominant dynamics of the process and is obtained through application of the method of weighted residuals. The architecture comprises a family of control configurations together with a fault detection filter and a supervisor. For each configuration, a stabilizing output feedback controller with well-characterized stability properties is designed through the combination of a state feedback controller and a state observer that uses the available measurements of principal moments of the particle size distribution (PSD) and the continuous-phase variables to provide appropriate state estimates. A fault detection filter that simulates the behavior of the fault-free, reduced-order model is designed, and its discrepancy from the behavior of the actual process state estimates is used as a residual for fault detection. Finally, a switching law based on the stability regions of the constituent control configurations is derived to reconfigure the control system in a way that preserves closed-loop stability in the event of fault detection. Appropriate fault detection thresholds and control reconfiguration criteria that account for model reduction and state estimation errors are derived for the implementation of the FD-FTC architecture on the particulate process. Finally, the methodology is applied to the problem of constrained, actuator fault-tolerant stabilization of an unstable steady-state of a continuous crystallizer.

A methodology for fault detection and monitoring of a class of hybrid process systems modeled by switched nonlinear systems with control actuator faults, uncertain continuous dynamics, and uncertain mode transitions is presented. A robust hybrid monitoring scheme that distinguishes reliably between faults, mode transitions, and uncertainty is developed using tools from unknown input observer theory and results from Lyapunov stability theory. The monitoring scheme consists of (1) a family of dedicated mode observers that locate the active operating mode at any given time and detect mode switches, (2) a family of robust Lyapunov‐based fault detection schemes that detect the faults within the continuous modes, and (3) a supervisor that synchronizes the switching between different controllers and different fault detectors as the process transitions from one mode to another. A key idea of the developed framework is to design the mode observers in a way that facilitates the identification of the active mode without information from the controllers and renders the residuals insensitive to the faults and uncertainties in the constituent subsystems. The implementation of the developed monitoring scheme is demonstrated using a simulated model of a chemical reactor that switches between multiple operating modes. © 2010 American Institute of Chemical Engineers AIChE J, 2011  相似文献
