The changes of design methods and manufacturing techniques have brought new requirements for engineers in enterprises, and therefore brought a challenge to the traditional teaching system of mechanical major courses. A new teaching system based on three-dimensional design to cultivate modern engineers with solid specialty bases and high creativity in a wide range of fields is presented.

Design and implementation of an agent-based collaborative product design system

The evolution of computer science and technology has brought new opportunities for multidisciplinary designers and engineers to collaborate with each other in a concurrent and coordinated manner. The development of computational agents with unified data structures and software protocols contributes to the establishment of a new way of working in collaborative design, which is increasingly becoming an international practice. In this paper, based on the analysis of the dynamic nature of collaborative design process, a new framework for collaborative design is described. This framework adopts an agent-based approach and relocates designers, managers, systems, and the supporting agents in a unified knowledge representation scheme for product design. In order to model the constantly evolving design process and the rationales resulted from design collaboration, a Collaborative Product Data Model (CPDM) and a constraint-based Collaborative Design Process Model (CDPM) are proposed to facilitate the management and coordination of the collaborative design process as well as design knowledge management. A prototype system of the proposed framework is implemented and its feasibility is evaluated using a real design scenario whose objective is designing a set of dining table and chairs.     

PLASHTRAN: An expert consultant on two-dimensional finite element modeling techniques

An expert consultant and teaching aid has been developed to aid users of the MSC/NASTRAN (MacNeal-Schwendler Corp, Los Angeles, CA, USA) finite element code in the modeling process with two-dimensional elements. Written in LISP and LOOPS, an object-oriented programming language, the system, known as PLASHTRAN, allows engineers to work in a natural environment to obtain modeling recommendations. The program performs efficiently, especially when iterations in design require changes in the finite element model. The easily expandable modeling framework allows the knowledge base to incorporate new information.

CDIO是当前国际上的新型人才培养模式,“卓越工程师教育培养计划”是教育部提出的实现工程教育强国的重大战略措施,两者都以培养国际化工程师为目标。介绍了当前图学教育中存在的不足,结合燕山大学机械工程学院实施 CDIO教学改革和卓越工程师教育培养计划实践,探讨如何构建基于“卓越工程师教育培养计划”和CDIO的工程图学教学体系,保证课程的工程性和实践性。实验证明,该教学模式对于启发与培养大学生工程能力和创造性有效,为后续专业课程的学习、毕业设计与科研工作奠定良好基础。     

基于教学过程支撑系统的教学信息化评价研究

分析了目前教学信息化评价工作中存在的弊病。在前人计算机管理教学系统的基础上,给出了一种将教学信息化评价融入教学和管理全过程的新系统（教学过程支持系统）,为课堂教学与评价的研究提供了新思路。

网络教学系统是一种新的教学系统,它的出现改变了传统教学方式,能提高教学效率和学生参加教学活动的积极性。该系统结合教学系统的客户机/服务器以及浏览器/服务器这两种模式各自的优点提出了两者相结合的教学系统结构模式,并介绍了多媒体数据库的设计。在此基础上给出了一种全新的基于多媒体数据库技术实现网络教学系统的设计方法和实现结果。系统利用Visual Basic6.0和InformixWeb DataBlade作为主要开发工具进行设计开发。在系统的设计过程中,充分考虑了多媒体数据库的特点,使用了大量的图形、图像和动画,人机交互界面友好,操作简单,功能先进。

Computer graphics and computer aided design in mechanical engineering at the University of Minnesota

Engineering design in industry is changing as a result of the application of the new tools provided by the digital computer and interactive computer graphics. This shift is placing new demands on engineering curricula. The engineering graduate today must be trained in the use of the computer and computer graphics as a design tool—in much the same way that engineers in the past used the slide rule and today use the hand-held calculator.This paper summarizes the efforts to integrate computer graphics and computer aided design into the design curriculum in the Mechanical Engineering Department at the University of Minnesota. Specific software packages have been developed for use in teaching engineering graphics and mechanism synthesis and analysis. These packages are discussed in detail, including the hardware used.
