This work experimentally studied the pressure drop and heat transfer of a square pin-fin array in a rectangular channel by using the transient single-blow technique. The variable parameters are the relative longitudinal pitch (XL = 1.5, 2, 2.8), the relative transverse pitch (XT = 1.5, 2, 2.8) and the arrangement (in-line or staggered). Compared with the open articles, the present relative pitches are smaller and independently variable. The performance of the square pin-fins as the cooling devices is compared with that of the circular pin-fins. Besides, empirical formulas for the pressure loss and the heat transfer are suggested. Finally, the optimal inter-fin pitches are provided based on the largest Nusselt number under the same pumping power, while the optimal inter-fin pitches of square pin-fins are XT = 2 and XL = 1.5 for the arrays in in-line arrangements as well as XT = 1.5 and XL = 1.5 for the arrays in staggered arrangements.  相似文献

The effect of enhanced geometry (pore diameter, gap width) is investigated on the pool boiling of R-123/oil mixture for the enhanced tubes having pores with connecting gaps. Tubes having different pore diameters (and corresponding gap widths) are specially made. Significant heat transfer degradation by oil is observed for the present enhanced tubes. At 5% oil concentration, the degradation is 26–49% for Tsat = 4.4 °C. The degradation increases 50–67% for Tsat = 26.7 °C. The heat transfer degradation is significant even with small amount of oil (20–38% degradation at 1% oil concentration for Tsat = 4.4 °C), probably due to the accumulation of oil in sub-tunnels. The pore size (or gap width) has a significant effect on the heat transfer degradation. The maximum degradation is observed for dp = 0.20 mm tube at Tsat = 4.4 °C, and dp = 0.23 mm tube at Tsat = 26.7 °C. The minimum degradation is observed for dp = 0.27 mm tube for both saturation temperatures. It appears that the oil removal is facilitated for the larger pore diameter (along with larger gap) tube. The highest heat transfer coefficient with oil is obtained for dp = 0.23 mm tube, which yielded the highest heat transfer coefficient for pure R-123. The optimum tube significantly (more than 3 times) outperforms the smooth tube even with oil. The heat transfer degradation increases as the heat flux decreases.  相似文献

This work experimentally investigated the fluid flow and heat transfer behaviors of jet impingement onto the rotating heat sink. Air was used as impinging coolant, while the square heat sinks with uniformly in-line arranged 5 × 5 and 9 × 9 pin-fins were employed. The side length (L) of the heat sink equaled 60 mm and was fixed. Variable parameters were the relative length of the heat sink (L/d = 2.222 and 4.615), the relative distance of nozzle-to-fin tip (C/d = 0–11), the jet Reynolds number (Re = 5019–25,096) and the rotational Reynolds number (Rer = 0–8114). Both flow characteristics of stationary and rotating systems were illustrated by the smoke visualization. Besides, the results of heat transfer indicate that, for a stationary system with a given air flow rate, there was a larger average Nusselt number (Nu0) for the 9 × 9 pin-fin heat sink with L/d = 4.615 and C/d = 11. For a rotating system, a bigger Rer meant a more obvious heat transfer enhancement (NuΩ/Nu0) in the case of smaller Re, but NuΩ/Nu0 decreased with increasing Re. In this work, NuΩ/Nu0 in L/d = 2.222 is higher than in L/d = 4.615; among the systems in L/d = 2.222, bigger NuΩ/Nu0 exists in the case of C/d = 9–11, but among the systems in L/d = 4.615, bigger NuΩ/Nu0 exists in the case of C/d = 1–3. Finally, according to the base of NuΩ/Nu0 ? 1.1, the criterion of the substantial rotation was suggested to be Rer/Re ? 1.154.  相似文献

This study examines the airside performance of the wavy fin-and-tube heat exchangers having a larger diameter tube (Dc = 16.59 mm) with the tube row ranging from 1 to 16. It is found that the effect of tube row on the heat transfer performance is quite significant, and the heat transfer performance deteriorates with the rise of tube row. The performance drop is especially pronounced at the low Reynolds number region. Actually more than 85% drop of heat transfer performance is seen for Fp  1.7 mm as the row number is increased from 1 to 16. Upon the influence of tube row on the frictional performance, an unexpected row dependence of the friction factor is encountered. The effect of fin pitch on the airside performance is comparatively small for N = 1 or N = 2. However, a notable drop of heat transfer performance is seen when the number of tube row is increased, and normally higher heat transfer and frictional performance is associated with that of the larger fin pitch.  相似文献

Spray water cooling is an important technology used in industry for the cooling of materials from temperatures up to 1800 K. The heat transfer coefficient in the so-called steady film boiling regime is known to be a function of the water impact density. Below a specific surface temperature TL, the heat transfer coefficient shows a strong dependence on temperature (Leidenfrost effect). These findings are the results of complex self-organizing two-phase boiling heat transfer phenomena. The heat transfer coefficient was measured by an automated cooling test stand (instationary method) under clean (non-oxidizing) surface conditions. Compared to the common thought, an additional temperature dependency in the high temperature regime was found. The heat transfer from the material to the outflowing spray water is explained by a simple model of the two-phase flow region. From the experimental data, an analytic correlation for the dependence of the heat transfer coefficient α as an analytic function of water impact density VS and temperature ΔT is provided. For water temperatures around 291 K, surface temperatures between 473 and 1373 K, i.e. ΔT > 180 K and water impact densities between VS = 3 and 30 kg/(m2 s) the heat transfer coefficient α was measured. The spray was produced with full cone nozzles (vd  13–15 m/s, dd  300–400 μm).  相似文献

Computational fluid dynamics (CFD) has been used to study fully developed laminar flow and heat transfer behaviour in periodic serpentine channels with a semi-circular cross-section. The serpentine elements are characterised by their wavelength (2L), channel diameter (d) and radius of curvature of bends (Rc), with results reported for Reynolds numbers (Re) up to 450, as well as for a range of geometric configurations (3 < L/d < 12.5, 0.525 < Rc/d < 2.25) at Re = 110. The flow in these channels is characterised by the formation of Dean vortices following each bend. As the Reynolds number is increased, more complex vortical flow patterns emerge and the flow domain becomes increasingly dominated by these vortices. Alignment of flow with vorticity leads to efficient fluid mixing and high rates of heat transfer.Constant wall heat flux (H2) and constant wall temperature (T) boundary conditions and a range of fluid Prandtl numbers (0.7 < Pr < 100) have been examined. High rates of heat transfer and low pressure loss are found relative to fully-developed flow in a straight pipe, with heat transfer enhancements greater than 10 for a Prandtl number of 100.As part of this work, we also obtain an accurate value for the Nusselt number for fully-developed flows in straight semi-circular passages with constant wall temperature, NuT = 3.323(±0.001).  相似文献

Natural convection induced heat transfer has been studied over the outer surface of helically coiled-tube heat exchangers. Several different geometrical configurations (curvature ratio δ ε [0.035, 0.082]) and a wide range of flow parameters (60 <= Ttank <= 90, Tin = 19 and 60 <= Tin <= 90, Ttank = 20, 4000 <= Re <= 45000) have been examined to broaden the validity of the results gained from this research. A fluid-to-fluid boundary condition has been applied in the numerical calculations to create the most realistic flow configurations. Validity of the numerical calculations has been tested by experiments available in the open literature. Calculated results of the inner side heat transfer rate have also been compared to existing empirical formulas and experimental results to test the validity of the numerical computation in an independent way from the outer side validation of common helical tube heat exchangers. Water has been chosen to the working fluid inside and outside of the coiled tube (3 < Pr < 7). Outer side heat transfer rate along the helical tube axis has been investigated to get information about the performance of the heat transport process at different location of the helical tube. It was found that the outer side heat transfer rate is slightly dependent on the inner flow rate of any helical tube in case of increasing temperature differences between the tank working fluid temperature and the coil inlet temperature. A stable thermal boundary layer has been found along the axial direction of the tube.In addition to this the qualitative behavior of the peripherally averaged Nusselt number versus the axial location along the helical tube function is strongly dependent on the direction of the heat flow (from the tube to the storage tank and the reversed direction). Inner side heat transfer rate of helical coils have also been investigated in case of fluid-to-fluid boundary conditions and the calculation results have been compared with different prediction formulas published in the last couples of decades.  相似文献

In this study, radiative and convective heat transfer coefficients at the ceiling are determined for a cooled ceiling room. Firstly, convective heat transfer is simulated numerically neglecting the radiative heat transfer at the surfaces (εf = εw = εc = 0), then, radiative heat transfer is calculated theoretically for different surface emissivities (εf = εw = εc = 0.5, 0.6, 0.7, 0.8 and 0.9) for different room dimensions (3 × 3 × 3, 4 × 3 × 4 and 6 × 3 × 4 m) and thermal conditions (Tf = 25 °C, Tw = 28–36 °C and Tc = 0–25 °C). Numerical data is compared with the results of correlations based on experimental data given in literature. New equations related to convective and total (including the effect of convection and radiation) heat transfer coefficients for ceiling are found in the current study.  相似文献

The effect of pulsating flow on convective heat transfer from periodically spaced blocks in tandem on a channel wall is experimentally investigated. The spacing l between repeated blocks varied from l/L = 0.3 to 0.6 where L is the block pitch. The experiments are carried out in the range of 10 Hz < fF < 100 Hz and 0.2 < A < 0.3. A pulsating flow is imposed by an acoustic woofer at the channel inlet and a constant heat is generated at each protruding block. The impact of the important governing parameters such as the Reynolds number, the Strouhal number and the inter-block spacing on heat transfer rate from heated blocks is examined in detail. The experimental results show that thermal transport from the blocks is greatly affected by the frequency, the amplitude of the flow pulsation, the inter-block spacing and the Reynolds number. Thermal resonance frequency which shows a maximum heat transfer coincides well with the inverse of traveling time of a fluid parcel that can be determined from the block periodicity and the Reynolds number.  相似文献

The effect of different inlet geometries on laminar air flow combined convection heat transfer inside a horizontal circular pipe has been experimentally investigated for Reynolds number range of 400–1600, and the Grashof number range from 3.12 × 105 to 1.72 × 106. The experimental setup consists of an aluminum circular pipe as a heated section with 30 mm inside diameter and 900 mm heated length (L/D = 30) with different inlet geometries. A wall boundary heating condition of a uniform heat flux was imposed. The inlet configurations used in this paper are calming sections having the same inside diameter as the heated pipe but with variable lengths of Lcalm. = 600 mm (L/D = 20), Lcalm. = 1200 mm (L/D = 40), Lcalm. = 1800 mm (L/D = 60), Lcalm. = 2400 mm (L/D = 80), sharp-edged and bell-mouth. It was found that the surface temperature values for calming section length corresponding to (L/D = 80) were higher than other inlet geometries due to the lower mass flow rate and higher flow resistance. It was also observed that the Nusselt number values for bell-mouth inlet geometry were higher than other inlet geometries due to the differences in the average temperatures and densities of the air. The average heat transfer results were correlated with an empirical correlation in terms of dependent parameters of Grashof, Prandtl and Reynolds numbers. The proposed correlation was compared with available literature and it shows reasonable agreement.  相似文献

This study investigated the effect of fin thickness on the air-side performance of wavy fin-and-tube heat exchangers under dehumidifying conditions. A total of 10 samples were tested with associated fin thickness (δf) of 0.115 mm and 0.25 mm, respectively. For a heat exchanger with two rows (N = 2) and fin pitch Fp of 1.41 mm, the effect of fin thickness on the heat transfer coefficient is more pronounced. The heat transfer coefficients for δf = 0.25 mm is about 5–50% higher than those for δf = 0.115 mm whereas the pressure drop for δf = 0.25 mm is about 5–20% higher. The unexpected difference in heat transfer coefficient subject to fin thickness is attributable to better interactions between the directed main flow and the swirled flow caused by the condensate droplet for δf = 0.25 mm. The maximum difference in heat transfer coefficients for N = 2 and Fp = 2.54 mm subject to the influence of fin thickness is reduced to about 20%, and there is no difference in heat transfer coefficient when the frontal velocity is above 3 m/s. For N  4 and Fp = 2.54 mm, the influence of fin thickness on the heat transfer coefficients diminishes considerably. This is because of the presence of tube row, and the unsteady/vortex shedding feature at the down stream of wavy channel. Based on the present test results, a correlation is proposed to describe the air-side performance for wavy fin configurations, the mean deviations of the proposed heat transfer and friction correlations are 7.9% and 7.7%, respectively.  相似文献

This study presents the airside performance of the fin-and-tube heat exchangers having plain fin geometry with a larger diameter tube (Dc = 15.88 mm) under dehumidifying condition. A total of nine samples of heat exchangers subject to change of the number of tube row and fin pitch are made and tested. It is found that the effect of fin pitch on the sensible j factor is, in general, diminished with the rise of tube row. However, there is a unique characteristic of fin pitch at a shallow tube row, the heat transfer performance is first increased at a wider pitch but a further increase of fin pitch lead to a falloff of heat transfer performance due to interactions amid flow development and bypass flow. The influence of tube row on the airside performance is rather small for both heat transfer and frictional characteristics at a fin pitch of 2.1 mm and when the Reynolds number is less than 4000. A slight deviation of this effect is encountered when fin pitch is increased to 2.54 mm or 3.1 mm due to condensate adhered phenomena.  相似文献

The paper presents the numerical analysis on microchannel laminar heat transfer and fluid flow of nanofluids in order to evaluate the suitable thermal conductivity of the nanoparticles that results in superior thermal performances compared to the base fluid. The diameter ratio of the micro-tube was Di/Do = 0.3/0.5 mm with a tube length L = 100 mm in order to avoid the heat dissipation effect. The heat transfer rate was fixed to Q = 2 W. The water based Al2O3, TiO2 and Cu nanofluids were considered with various volume concentrations ϕ = 1,3 and 5% and two diameters of the particles dp = 13 nm and 36 nm. The analysis is based on a fixed Re and pumping power Π, in terms of average heat transfer coefficient and maximum temperature of the substrate. The results reveal that only the nanofluids with particles having very high thermal conductivity (λCu = 401 W/m K) are justified for using in microcooling systems. Moreover, the analysis is sensitive to both the comparison criteria (Re or Π) and heat transfer parameters (have or tmax).  相似文献

This study numerically investigates the impinging cooling of porous metallic foam heat sink. The analyzed parameters ranges comprise ε = 0.93/10 PPI Aluminum foam, L/W = 20, Pr = 0.7, H/W = 2–8, and Re = 100–40,000. The simulation results exhibit that when the Re is low (such as Re = 100), the Numax occurs at the stagnation point (i.e. X = 0). However, when the Reynolds number increases, the Numax would move downwards, i.e. the narrowest part between the recirculation zone and the heating surface. Besides, the extent to which the inlet thermal boundary condition influences the prediction accuracy of the Nusselt number increases with a decreasing H/W and forced convective effect. The application ranges of H/W and Re that the effect of the inlet thermal boundary condition can be neglected are proposed. Lastly, comparing our results with those in other studies reveals that the heat transfer performance of the Aluminum foam heat sink is 2–3 times as large as that without it. The thermal resistance is also 30% less than that of the plate fin heat sink for the same volumetric flow rate and the 5.3 mm jet nozzle width. Therefore, the porous Aluminum foam heat sink enhances the heat transfer performance of impinging cooling.  相似文献

This paper presents the results of an experimental investigation of heat transfer and friction in the flow of air in rectangular ducts having multi v-shaped rib with gap roughness on one broad wall. The investigation encompassed Reynolds number (Re) from 2000 to 20,000, relative gap distance (Gd/Lv) values of 0.24–0.80, relative gap width (g/e) values of 0.5–1.5, relative roughness height (e/D) values of 0.022–0.043, relative roughness pitch (P/e) values of 6–12, relative roughness width ratio (W/w) values of 1–10, angle of attack (α) range of 30°–75°. The optimum values of geometrical parameters of roughness have been obtained and discussed. For Nusselt number (Nu), the maximum enhancement of the order of 6.74 times of the corresponding value of the smooth duct has been obtained, however the friction factor (f) has also been seen to increase by 6.37 times of that of the smooth duct. The rib parameters corresponding to maximum increase in Nu and f were Gd/Lv = 0.69, g/e = 1.0, e/D = 0.043, P/e = 8, W/w = 6 and α = 60°. Based on the experimental data, correlations for Nu and f have been developed as function of roughness parameters of multi v-shaped with gap rib and flow Reynolds number.  相似文献

A numerical analysis has been carried about to study the heat and mass transfer of forced convection flow with liquid film evaporation in a saturated non-Darcian porous medium. Parametric analyses were conducted concerning the effects of the porosity ε, inlet liquid Reynolds number Rel, inlet air Reynolds number Rea on the heat and mass transfer performance. The results conclude that better heat and mass transfer performances are noticed for the system having a higher Rea, a lower Rel, and a higher ε. Rel plays a more important role on the heat and mass transfer performance than Rea and ε. For the case of ε = 0.4 and Rea = 10,000, the increases of Nu and Sh for Rel = 50 are about by 33.9% and 35.3% relative to the values for Rel = 250.  相似文献

This work experimentally studied heat transfer associated with an impinging jet onto a rotating heat sink. Air was used as the impinging coolant, and a square Al-foam heat sink was adopted. The variable parameters were the jet Reynolds number (Re), the relative nozzle-to-foam tip distance (C/d), the rotational Reynolds number (Rer) and the relative side length of the square heat sink (L/d). The effects of Re, C/d, Rer and L/d on the dimensionless temperature distributions and the average Nusselt number were considered. For a stationary system, the results reveal that the average Nusselt number (Nu0) with Al-foam was two to three times that without Al-foam. Nu0 increased with Re. A larger L/d responded to a larger Nu0 based on the same jet flow rate. The effect of C/d on Nu0 was negligible herein. For a rotating system, when Re and L/d were small and C/d was large, the average Nusselt number (NuΩ) increased considerably with Rer. Additionally, for NuΩ/Nu0 ? 1.1, the results suggest that rotation was substantial at Rer/Re ? 1.13 when L/d = 4.615 with C/d = 0–5 and at Rer/Re ? 1.07 when L/d = 3.0 with C/d = 0–5. For L/d = 2.222, rotation was substantial at Rer/Re ? 1.44 when C/d = 0 and was always substantial when C/d ? 1.  相似文献

An experimental investigation has been carried out to study the heat transfer coefficient and friction factor by using artificial roughness in the form of specially prepared inverted U-shaped turbulators on the absorber surface of an air heater duct. The roughened wall is uniformly heated while the remaining three walls are insulated. These boundary conditions correspond closely to those found in solar air heaters. The experiments encompassed the Reynolds number range from 3800 to 18000; ratio of turbulator height to duct hydraulic mean diameter is varied from, e/Dh = 0.0186 to 0.03986 (Dh = 37.63 mm and e = 0.7 to 1.5 mm) and turbulator pitch to height ratio is varied from, p/e = 6.67 to 57.14 (p = 10 to 40 mm). The angle of attack of flow on turbulators, α = 90° kept constant during the whole experimentation. The heat transfer and friction factor data obtained is compared with the data obtained from smooth duct under similar geometrical and flow conditions. As compared to the smooth duct, the turbulator roughened duct enhances the heat transfer and friction factor by 2.82 and 3.72 times, respectively. The correlations have been developed for area averaged Nusselt number and friction factor for turbulator roughened duct.  相似文献

This study investigates the effect of fin pitches and fin materials on the air-side performance of crimped fin-and-tube heat exchangers in the range of high Reynolds numbers (4000–13000). The test samples are made from copper and aluminium with different fin pitches (fp = 3.2, 4.2 and 6.2 mm). It is found that the proposed simple average effectiveness equation from the pure counter and parallel circuitry arrangement can well represent the effectiveness-NTU relationship for the current z-shape arrangement. The experimental results reveal that the fin pitch casts insignificant effect on the heat transfer characteristics (Colburn j factor). However, a detectable rise of the friction factor is seen when the fin pitch is increased to fp = 6.2 mm. On the other hand, the effect of fin material on the airside performance is negligible.  相似文献

Numerical study of the effect of confinement on a flow structure and heat transfer in an impinging mist jets with low mass fraction of droplets (ML1 ? 1%) were presented. The turbulent mist jet is issued from a pipe and strikes into the center of the flat heated plate. Mathematical model is based on the steady-state RANS equations for the two-phase flow in Euler/Euler approach. Predictions were performed for the distances between the nozzle and the target plate x/(2R) = 0.5–10 and the initial droplets size (d1 = 5–100 μm) at the varied Reynolds number based on the nozzle diameter, Re = (1.3–8) × 104. Addition of droplets causes significant increase of heat transfer intensity in the vicinity of the jet stagnation point compared with the one-phase air impinging jet. The presence of the confinement upper surface decreases the wall friction and heat transfer rate, but the change of friction and heat transfer coefficients in the stagnation point is insignificant. The effect of confinement on the heat transfer is observed only in very small nozzle-to-plate distances (H/(2R) < 0.5) both in single-phase and mist impinging jets.  相似文献
