Gain flattened C-band erbium-doped fiber amplifier (EDFA) is demonstrated using a macro-bending method. Various bending diameter and length of high concentration aluminosilicate EDFA are theoretically and experimentally analyzed. By varying the bending radius and the length of the doped fiber, the gain saturation effect as well as the energy transfer from shorter wavelength to a longer wavelength can be controlled to obtain a flattened and broadened gain profile in the C-band region. The amplifier uses a 9 m long erbium-doped fiber (EDF) with erbium ion density of 1.6 × 1025 ions m?3 and bending radius of 6.5 mm as a gain medium. The gain variation of the EDFA is obtained within ±1 dB over 25 nm bandwidth of C-band region. 相似文献

We demonstrate flat-gain wide bandwidth Raman-Fiber optical parametric hybrid amplifier for wavelength division multiplexed systems (WDM). Raman-parametric amplifiers exploit system non-linearities which are otherwise inevitable in evolving WDM systems. Investigations show that the pumps of parametric amplifier and Raman amplifier can be carefully selected at wavelengths, to give gain over complementary bandwidth regions, resulting in wide bandwidth with low gain ripple. Results show a flat gain of 24.3 dB for 12 × 100 Gbps WDM system with lowest ripple of less than 2.78 dB reported over 220 nm bandwidth for Raman-FOPA hybrid. 相似文献

ABSTRACTA new compact and wide-band erbium-doped fibre amplifier (EDFA) was demonstrated by combining Hafnia-bismuth Erbium co-doped fibre (HB-EDF) and zirconia–yttria–aluminum Erbium co-doped fibre (Zr-EDF) as a hybrid gain medium, in parallel double-pass configuration. The proposed amplifier comprises a 0.5?m long HB-EDF and 4?m long Zr-EDF optimized for C- and L-band operations, respectively. The HB-EDF and Zr-EDF has erbium ion concentration of 12,500?ppm and 2800?ppm, respectively. At -10 dBm input signal, a wide-band flat gain of 15.7?dB is achieved with gain fluctuation of less than 1.5?dB within a wavelength region from 1525 to 1600?nm. Compared to same configuration of HB-EDF and Zr-EDF amplifiers which are using two pieces of HB-EDF and Zr-EDF, respectively with the same total amount of erbium ions, the proposed EDFA with hybrid gain medium provides even better performances in term of flat gain, bandwidth and noise figure. 相似文献

Wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) systems, which are widely used in telecommunication, have the advantages of huge bandwidth support and reliability. A performance analysis is presented of a WDM system using an erbium-doped fiber amplifier (EDFA), with specific emphasis on bit error rate (BER) optimization. EDFA parameters, including doped fiber length and pump power, are optimized and performance evaluating parameters for different modulation schemes are observed. Simulation results provide optimized BER, noise figure, and gain flatness values. The WDM system is modeled from 1546 nm to 1558 nm bandwidth to obtain maximum gain uniformity, low noise figure, and low BER. This wavelength range is selected to investigate the 1550 nm wavelength commonly used in the telecommunication industry. Also, that we are using a WDM grid, so multiple channels can be accommodated in this range. 相似文献

In this paper a tunable single-longitudinal mode (SLM), short-wavelength band (S-band) fiber laser using a conventional erbium-doped fiber (EDF) with a length of 3?m and a step index erbium dopant profile as opposed to the commonly used depressed cladding erbium-doped fiber (DC-EDF) is proposed and demonstrated. The proposed SLM fiber laser has a tuning range of 1496 to 1507?nm in a ring configuration using two 0.15?m of EDF which acts as saturable absorbers (SAs). The highest peak power measured is about ?0.6?dBm at a wavelength range of 1502 to 1507?nm. The measured signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) is approximately 74?dB for the same wavelength range. A multi-wavelength laser source is demonstrated with a semiconductor optical amplifier (SOA) as a gain medium. A multi-wavelength comb with equal spacing is achieved due to Fabry–Pérot modes of the SOA which oscillates in the ring cavity. A 100 m long photonics crystal fiber (PCF) is inserted in the ring cavity to provide a nonlinear gain by four-wave mixing (FWM) so that the output comb spectrum can be greatly broadened and flattened. The stability of the ring laser is also increased due to the efficient FWM phenomenon occurring in the PCF. The SOA-based laser can generate 35 lasing lines with equal spacing of 0.28 nm and extinction ratios of more than 30 dB at room temperature. The number of channels of the multi-wavelength laser can be controlled flexibly by changing the ratio of the coupler used in the ring cavity configuration as well as controlling the polarization state of the oscillating laser. 相似文献

根据 WDM 光纤耦合器波长解调方案的工作原理、偏振特性以及影响系统波长分辨力的因素,提出一种改进的利用 WDM 光纤耦合器的光纤光栅传感解调技术。该技术在原技术的基础上,采用偏振控制器控制入射光偏振状态,提高了解调的精度和稳定性。对 WDM 光纤耦合器的多次波长扫描结果表明,采用偏振控制器后,其波长误差可减小到 5pm 左右。实验采用 1540/1560nm的 WDM 光纤耦合器对单点光纤光栅应变传感器进行静态解调,结果表明:按此技术开发的解调系统具有 0.01nm 波长分辨力和 10nm 的波长线性解调范围。 相似文献

Rhodamine 6G and Rhodamine B dye mixture doped polymer optical fiber amplifier (POFA), which can operate in a broad wavelength region (60 nm), has been successfully fabricated and tested. Tunable operation of the amplifier over a broad wavelength region is achieved by mixing different ratios of the dyes. The dye doped POFA is pumped axially using 532 nm, 10 ns laser pulses from a frequency doubled Q-switched Nd: YAG laser and the signals are taken from an optical parametric oscillator. A maximum gain of 22.3 dB at 617 nm wavelength has been obtained for a 7 cm long dye mixture doped POFA. The effects of pump energy and length of the fiber on the performance of the fiber amplifier are also studied. There exists an optimum length for which the amplifier gain is at a maximum value. 相似文献

A tunable short-wavelength band Raman fiber laser using a dispersion shifted fiber as the nonlinear medium is proposed and demonstrated. This approach provides an alternative to the common method of using depressed-cladding, erbium-doped fibers as the gain medium in S-band fiber lasers. The proposed laser has a tuning range of 1508 to 1534?nm as well as an average peak power of about ?11.3?dBm within the range 1518–1530?nm. A high signal-to-noise ratio of approximately 70 dB is obtained from the system at this range. 相似文献

A simple fiber laser configuration based on a semiconductor optical amplifier (SOA) is proposed for obtaining multi-wavelength oscillation at room temperature, in which a Sagnac loop mirror is used as the wavelength selective component. The SOA has a flat gain of approximately 23dB within a bandwidth of 12 nm at a small input signal power. The loop mirror was constructed using a 3dB coupler and polarization maintaining fiber (PMF). The output spectrum of the proposed laser can be adjusted by controlling the bias current of the SOA and is quite stable at room temperature. At a bias current of 150 mA, six lines are obtained with at least ?40 dBm output power and 25dB signal-to-noise ratio (SNR). The channel spacing and number of lines is determined by the length of polarization maintaining fiber (PMF) used in the loop mirror. The channel spacing of the proposed laser is 1.49 nm with a PMF 3 m. The multi-wavelength comb output can also be tuned by adjusting the operating temperature of the SOA. The multi-wavelength laser has the advantage of a simple configuration, stability at room temperature, a broad wavelength band, and no need for optical pump lasers. 相似文献

The effect of an external beam on different characteristics of quantum-dot semiconductor optical amplifiers (QD-SOAs) has been investigated experimentally. It has been shown that injection of a relatively weak light beam at the gain transparency wavelength accelerates the full gain recovery time from 80 ps to 65 ps while it increases the saturation output power (SOP) by more than 2 dB if the beam resides in the gain region. The effect of the external beam on the fiber-to-fiber gain has been demonstrated at both the gain transparency wavelength and close to gain peak wavelength. These results are expected to be further enhanced by increasing the injected beam power, which has a peak value of ~7 mW in the experiments. 相似文献

A new structure for the L-band multiwavelength switchable erbium-doped fiber laser is proposed. Overlapping laser cavities are formed by cascading fiber Bragg gratings as reflectors in a ring structure with a C-band EDFA as a common gain medium. The proposed laser is made to be wavelength-switchable by individually adjusting the loss of each overlapping cavity. Instead of using an L-band EDFA as the gain medium in the L-band fiber laser, we have experimentally demonstrated that by tailoring the gain of the C-band EDFA to have a significant gain tilt in the L-band, a lasing power efficiency of 26% can be achieved over a wide range of switchable lasing wavelengths. Following this optimal design, the side-mode suppression ratio and the minimal separation between two switchable lasing wavelengths were found to be over 42 dB and 0.33 nm, respectively. 相似文献

Amplified spontaneous emission (ASE) suppression techniques were utilized to fabricate a double-pass, Yb-doped amplifier with the noise properties of a single-pass amplifier. Simulations based on a rate equation model were used to analyze the ASE and the effectiveness of the suppression techniques. These techniques were implemented in an alignment-free, double-pass, Yb-doped fiber amplifier with a 26 dB gain at a wavelength 23 nm off the gain peak and a -48 dB noise floor while amplifying linearly polarized optical pulses with a low-duty cycle. 相似文献
