In the 100,000 amp vertical stub Soderberg anodes at the Baie Comeau aluminium reduction plant, the softening point of the pitch used over the whole plant has been raised from 88°C cube in air in 1957 by progressive steps to 126°C—C.I.A. in 1967. Theoretical advantages and disadvantages following the use of high softening point pitch are discussed. In addition to the expected overall improvement in anode quality, there were also considerations of improved conditions for the stevedores at the dock during the unloading of 5,000-ton cargos of lump pitch. Pilot experimental work in the cell anodes is described. Tests also included holding a batch of pitch liquid at around 400–440°F for six months prior to processing. The results emphasized the desirability of making gradual changes only in the cell anodes. The expected increase in pitch percentages in the anode paste due to the increased pitch density was in actual operations more than offset by a reduction in pitch percentage due to improved pitch stability at the temperature of the cell anode tops. Little difficulty was experienced in keeping the anode tops in a condition suitable for the stubbing operation. 相似文献

a sufficiently safe prognosis for the attainable gear quality possible on the basis of real process data, in the context of
a interdisciplinary research project the relevant interactions of the system machine-tool-process are determined, described
and modeled in suitable form. Apart from the fundamental aspects of this problem the contribution argues in particular with
