STARS and stripes

The overall goal of DoD's Software Initiative is to meet DoD's future software needs by an order of magnitude improvement in the state of the practice, and to hasten the transition of new technology. The STARS Program (Software Technology for Adaptable, Reliable Systems) is one of the components of the Software Initiative. Other components are the Ada¹ Program and the Software Engineering Institute. The STARS Program is to result in a fully integrated environment which captures all phases of the software life cycle. From April 30 to May 2, 1985, the first DoD/Industry STARS Program Conference was organized, which brought together representatives of government, industry, and the academic community to review and discuss the STARS Program and other components of the Software Initiative. Below, we report on the presentations given at this conference.

Moped (a portable debugger)

Moped is a portable debugger that uses enhanced tracing facilities and backtracing to discover unusual or undesirable program behaviors. It is based upon two modules — Program Probes and Program History. Program Probes is a forward tracing utility which allows Moped to dynamically examine the execution of a program. Program History is a backtracing utility which allows Moped to study the executed section of a program. Together, Program Probes and Program History enable Moped to have more control over the behavior of a program than either one of them, and consequently to provide an easier path toward program debugging. Moped is written in Common LISP with no dependencies on details of the machine implementation. JavaScript静态切片工具

程序切片是一种传统的程序分析方法：通过去掉无关代码,获取可能影响某行代码的子集。程序切片在程序理解、软件测试和程序调试等众多领域有着广泛的应用。随着互联网技术的发展,JavaScript语言得到广泛应用,但针对该语言的切片工具非常有限。本文针对JavaScript语言的特殊性,提出一种基于程序依赖图的JavaScript程序切片算法,并基于WALA程序分析框架实现了该切片算法。试验结果表明,本文的切片算法可以得到较为理想的切片结果。试验中切片平均大小约为原程序代码的70%,较手工切片仅有约19%冗余。
