Abstract: The design of liquid‐retaining structures involves many decisions to be made by the designer based on rules of thumb, heuristics, judgement, codes of practice and previous experience. Structural design problems are often ill structured and there is a need to develop programming environments that can incorporate engineering judgement along with algorithmic tools. Recent developments in artificial intelligence have made it possible to develop an expert system that can provide expert advice to the user in the selection of design criteria and design parameters. This paper introduces the development of an expert system in the design of liquid‐retaining structures using blackboard architecture. An expert system shell, Visual Rule Studio, is employed to facilitate the development of this prototype system. It is a coupled system combining symbolic processing with traditional numerical processing. The expert system developed is based on British Standards Code of Practice BS8007. Explanations are made to assist inexperienced designers or civil engineering students to learn how to design liquid‐retaining structures effectively and sustainably in their design practices. The use of this expert system in disseminating heuristic knowledge and experience to practitioners and engineering students is discussed.  相似文献

Abstract This paper describes the concepts which allow an expert system to be used for both design diagnosis and design synthesis. An example of the implementation of these concepts is presented in the domain of preliminary design of domestic kitchens in the expert system PREDIKT. PREDIKT carries out both design diagnosis and design synthesis using the same knowledge base and utilises an existing expert system shell which has forward- and backward-chaining capabilities. The significance of graphical interaction with expert systems in design domains is demonstrated.  相似文献

The rich development environments of expert system shells provide tools for developing knowledge-based expert systems for complex tasks such as engineering design. The diverse knowledge in engineering design combines heuristics with deterministic knowledge, from multiple sources, and involves complicated, interrelated components. The hybrid capabilities in emerging expert system tools effectively address this diverse knowledge, and facilitate the rapid development of design aids by the engineering designer. A prototype expert system for injection-molded plastic parts demonstrates the utility of expert systems for design applications. The prototype is implemented in an object-oriented, rule-based environment, and incorporates solid modeling software and external material databases.  相似文献

This paper reports on the design and implementation of an expert system for computer process control (HESCPC). The complexity of the expertise necessary for computer process control applications requires that the expert system architecture be structured into a hierarchy of classes of specialized experts. The architecture of HESCPC integrates four classes of expert systems: operator/manager companion expert class, control system algorithm design expert class, hardware expert class, and software expert class. The paper is concerned with the design and implementation of the general system architecture, an operator adviser expert for a nuclear power plant and a control system designer expert using a state space feedback approach. Although the design and implementation aspects of all experts are discussed, the emphasis is on the latter.

At this stage of the HESCPC development, the declarative knowledge represented by 423 metarules and 1261 rules is distributed on a hierarchical structure among 20 experts on different levels of the hierarchy which are able to communicate among themselves to solve difficult control problems.

Examples of control system design sessions of linear mono and multivariable systems using feedback state space approach are given. A run time of an operator-adviser data-driven expert system for a nuclear plant is also presented.  相似文献

This paper addresses the problem of how to develop an expert system that is able to design or to assist in the design of a control system. The discussion includes how to structure the expert system, how to choose the relationship between the symbolic and numerical processor and how to divide the work among the expert system, the computer aided control systems analysis package and the design engineer. 专家系统(Expert system简称ES)是模拟人类专家解决问题的智能程序系统。专家系统的主要特征是有一个巨大的知识库,存储着某个专门领域的知识。在解决问题时,用户为系统提供一些已知数据,然后从系统中获得专家水平的结论[1-2]。目前专家系统已经应用到生活中的各个方面,本文着重研究了专家系统在在役桥梁中的应用,并且给出了模型建立方法、系统设计以及专家系统软件的设计流程[3]。最后将该系统应用到具体的实例中,实验证明在役桥梁专家决策系统具有良好的效果[4]。  相似文献

设计高质量的PDC钻头三维模型需要设计人员具有丰富的专业知识并能熟练使用3D设计工具,是一个高度智能化的复杂过程。提出把钻头基本模型与专家设计经验结合起来形成一个PDC钻头智能化设计系统。该系统根据岩层属性选择钻头基本模型,然后依据钻头准则规范钻头刀翼各类曲线,由专家知识库对钻头参数进行甄别优化,得到PDC钻头三维模型。PDC钻头智能化设计系统中融合了专家设计知识与钻头设计准则,具有智能化高、操作简单、准确度高的特点。  相似文献

The adoption of an expert system approach to flexible pavement design could be especially useful, because of the complexity of the design algorithm involving numerous possible combinations of pavement material types and traffic data, and the heavy reliance on empirical correlations, which can vary from one region or state to another. This paper describes the development of an advisory expert system for flexible pavement design that attempts to mimic the design process of pavement engineering specialists. The highly interactive microcomputer expert system was developed, using an expert system shell.  相似文献
