The wireless world migrates towards the “Beyond the 3rd Generation” (B3G) era. It is envisaged that the B3G era will be characterised by advances in the infrastructure, the applications/services supported, and the business model. These characteristics also mean that the management of the wireless B3G world will be more complex, compared to previous generations. It is believed that an efficient response to complexity is the introduction of cognitive systems. In this respect, the first objective of this paper is to discuss on the infrastructure-, application-, and business-driven motivation for the introduction of cognitive systems. A second objective is to introduce the basic engineering challenges for the successful introduction. The approach for presenting the motivations includes: (i) the basic features, and the consequent requirements for the management functionality, associated with the network infrastructure, application areas and business model envisaged for the wireless B3G world; (ii) argumentation that cognitive systems are efficient means for satisfying these requirements. The approach for presenting the basic engineering challenges includes: (i) the envisaged structure of a cognitive system; (ii) issues related to the deployment of the cognitive systems in a B3G infrastructure. 相似文献

Wireless communications is witnessing the emergence of the composite radio and reconfigurability concepts. The former assumes that different radio networks can be cooperating components in a heterogeneous wireless access infrastructure, through which network providers can more efficiently achieve the required capacity and QoS levels. Reconfigurability enables terminals and network elements to dynamically select and adapt to the most appropriate radio access technologies for handling conditions encountered in specific service area regions and time zones of the day. Both concepts pose new requirements on the management of wireless systems. This article presents a management system, which has been developed for enabling wireless systems to operate in a CR context. Moreover, the article addresses the necessary extensions to the management system for handling the impact of the reconfigurability context. 相似文献

The enterprise of the future needs to be flexible, adaptive, and to respond rapidly to market demands and opportunities. This, in turn, demands a flexible, adaptive infrastructure. A plausible way to achieve such an infrastructure is to base its organisation on autonomous agents, where each agent responds locally to the intra- and extra-organisational forces it experiences. Enterprise adaptation then arises as an emergent effect. The theories of Holland, and related work on complex adaptive systems, have a direct bearing on the emergence of system adaptation from the interaction of locally adaptive entities. This paper ties Holland's theory of artificial and natural adaptive systems to autonomous agent systems. To illustrate the use of these theories in this context, the paper presents a system of evolving autonomous agents, interacting in a simulated producer/consumer economic world. The paper presents preliminary results with the producer/consumer, evolving agents system, and discusses the implications of these results for evolving, adaptive enterprise infrastructure systems. 相似文献
