The problem presented in this paper was identify cooperative learning is an effective teaching method for oral English teaching.Application of cooperative learning theory can change teaching model of traditional class,stimulate students' motive to study actively,and train students' mutual aid and cooperative spirit.After the analyze of the actuality of oral English learning,a brief review of literature on the basic principle of cooperative learning was conducted.A third review of literature relating to implementation of cooperative learning in oral English class,and combining with the team making,patterns of cooperative learning,content of Cooperative Learning and teacher's role.Through a review of literature,it becomes evident that there are many advantages of using cooperative learning method in oral English teaching.Challenges and conflicts of cooperative learning are mentioned in practical teaching situations.

English teaching in the Italian medical faculties: results of a survey

BACKGROUND: Although a compulsory examination in medical English has been present in the medical degree curriculum in Italy since 1990, guidelines indicating what should be learnt and suggesting some means of overcoming the various problems this entails are still lacking. OBJECTIVE: To investigate the main features of teaching English in the Medical Faculties and enquire into how the various problems are solved in the individual English teaching units. METHOD: A questionnaire addressing the above issues was sent out to all the Italian Universities with a Medical Faculty. RESULTS: The first finding of our survey was that response was very poor: less than 30% of the survey volunteered any reply. Within the very reduced sample which responded, there was a high degree of variation among the solutions adopted, although the underlying problems were perceived to be much the same throughout Italy. CONCLUSIONS: The general objective of the English course for medicine should be more precisely defined, together with a series of specific minimum skills the student should possess to pass the final examination. A closer collaboration among the English teaching units might help to standardize these requirements, improve the quality of the teaching and hence the level of proficiency in English for the specific purpose of medical practice.

Like styles in clothing,methods of teaching English seem to go in and out of fashion.There used to be the grammartranslation method.Sometimes it's "fashionable"to focus on grammar.Sometimes teachers and textbooks focus on communication,instead.Students who thrive using one method are out of luck if a different method is used in their class.This paper reports on a teaching method on improving Chinese-speaking EFL learners' English by meang of composition-writing.The method is used with a view to boosting the learners' confidence in their ability to learn English.
