Physical and Digital Artifact-Mediated Coordination in Building Design   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
We conducted an ethnographic field study examining how a building design team used representational artifacts to coordinate the design of building systems, structure, and architecture. The goals of this study were to characterize the different interactions meeting participants had with design artifacts, to identify bottlenecks in the design coordination process, and to develop design considerations for CSCW technology that will support in-person design coordination meetings of building design teams. We found that gesturing, navigation, annotation, and viewing were the four primary interactions meeting participants had with design artifacts. The form of the design information (2D vs. 3D, digital vs. physical) had minimal impact on gesture interactions, although navigation varied significantly with different representations of design information. Bottlenecks in the design process were observed when meeting participants attempted to navigate digital information, interact with wall displays, and access information individually and as a group. Based on our observations, we present some possible directions for future CSCW technologies, including new mechanisms for digital bookmarking, interacting with 2D and 3D design artifacts simultaneously, and enriched pointing techniques and pen functionality.  相似文献

计算机支持的协同工作(CSCW)给CAD技术带来重大发展,但仍然存在许多问题。其中之一是缺乏将协作性能同应用功能有机结合的方法。文中在分析的现有协作支持技术,工具和系统不足的基础上,提出了用协作支持工具软件CoCADToolAgent改造商品化CAD系统来开发CSCD系统的新思路和总体技术路线,给出了通讯支持,协议,一致性维护和并发控制,协同感知,任务和脚色机制的有效的实现方法,作为本方法的一个应用实例,成功地将传统的人机交互式CAD系统AutoCAD转变为网络环境下支持人人交互的CSCD原型系统,作为专用协作支持工具,CoCADToolAgent比NetMeeting之类的通用协作支持工具具有更好的协作性能,该方法可推广到三维CAD系统。  相似文献

Co-Surgeon is an Internet-based tele-simulation surgery system. The system combines 3D surgery simulation with CSCW technology to enable surgeons to collaboratively simulate alternative treatment plans over the Internet. It enables multiple users in remote locations to manipulate 3D anatomical models and to simulate surgical operations while sharing a view of the simulation. In addition, the system can store the simulated procedure so that offline users can later replay it and participate asynchronously. Co-Surgeon can also manage the procedures, facilitating the use of the simulation capability and widening the system's application in surgical education and reference. CSCW (computer-supported cooperative work) is an active research area with many promising applications and benefits. We argue that the plight of the individual user can also be viewed as a CSCW problem, for the individual frequently acts as multiple persona: performing many independent tasks, perhaps in several places. We propose reflexive CSCW to address such issues. Solutions in the reflexive case will of course be of benefit to users even if they are working in a conventional multi-user CSCW context; proposed solutions in CSCW can be re-presented for individual users.  相似文献

In this paper, we explore public administration as a site of use for Computer Supported Cooperative Work (CSCW) applications, and outline the particular opportunities and challenges that CSCW and public administration pose for each other. We argue that public administrations in modern democratic societies are in both their organizational structures and their activities subservient to legal and political norms in a way that is different from private organizations; therefore, public administration cannot slavishly emulate CSCW applications that have proven themselves in a private context. Public administrations have to assess forms of CSCW in the light of the normative structure that is specific for them.We argue that the introduction of CSCW will further the tendencies to bureaucratisation and skew power biases towards public administration and away from the citizen. We give evidence for this contention on the basis of a comparison of different national attempts to introduce CSCW in Social Security offices in the Netherlands, the United Kingdom and Sweden. Although each of these countries is inspired by different ideals about the relationship between state and citizen in the social security sector, the influence of CSCW in all three cases goes in the same direction.  相似文献
