A method to enhance the gain of substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) beam scanning antenna is proposed in this article. 2 × 2 SIW cavity‐backed sub‐arrays are employed in array design. The antenna is constructed on two layers. The top layer places four SIW cavity‐backed sub‐arrays as radiating elements and the bottom layer is an SIW transmission line to feed the sub‐arrays. Beam scanning feature can be obtained due to the frequency dispersion. Moreover, through separating radiators to the other layer and using 2 × 2 SIW cavity‐backed sub‐arrays as radiating parts, the antenna gain is improved significantly. For a linear array, 4.1 to 6.8 dB gain enhancement is achieved compared to a conventional SIW beam scanning antenna with the same length. Then, the linear array is expanded to form a planar array for further gain improvement. A 64‐element planar beam scanning array is designed, fabricated, and tested. Experimental results show that the proposed planar array has a bandwidth from 18.5 GHz to 21. 5 GHz with beam scanning angle from ?5° to 11.5° and gain in the range of 20.5 to 21.8 dBi. The proposed high gain beam scanning antennas have potential applications in radar detection and imaging.  相似文献

In this article, a novel design of compact cavity‐backed slot antenna based on substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) technology is presented for dual‐frequency communication services. A single layer printed circuit board is applied to implement the proposed antenna. The bowtie‐ring slot engraved on the SIW square cavity is excited using two orthogonal microstrip feed lines to operate at two distinct frequencies (6.62 GHz and 11.18 GHz). The proposed antenna allows each of these frequencies to be designed independently. A prototype of the proposed cavity‐backed antenna that radiates at both 6.62 GHz and 11.18 GHz is fabricated and measured. The port isolation better than 29.3 dB is achieved by utilizing the transmission zeros (TZs), which are produced due to the orthogonal feed lines, TE110 mode and coupling between the TE120 and TE210 modes. The measured peak gains of the proposed diplexing antenna are 5.77 dBi and 5.81 dBi at lower and upper resonating frequencies, respectively. The proposed dual‐frequency antenna exhibits the front‐to‐back‐ratio (FTBR) and cross‐polarization level greater than 26 dB and 21 dB, respectively, at both resonating frequencies.  相似文献

In this article, a filtering antenna array based on substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) is proposed with quasi‐elliptic gain responses for the first time. Two radiation nulls in the gain responses at two sides of the frequency band edges are designed by applying a novel intercavity bypass coupling scheme. First, by carefully analyzing the bypass coupling between the in‐band and out‐of‐band modes in a single oversized TE103 mode cavity resonator, quasi‐elliptic filtering responses are achieved for a two‐output filter. Afterward, those cavity resonators coupled with the two outputs are replaced by cavity‐backed slot antennas to achieve the proposed filtering cavity‐backed slot antenna array. Only one cavity is required in our design to achieve the two transmission zeros and the function of power divider. As a result, the complexity of the proposed filtering antenna array is reduced. A prototype operating at Ka band is designed, fabricated and measured with a center frequency of 28.5 GHz and fractional bandwidth of 1.25%. Similar characteristics can be observed between the gain response of the proposed filtering antenna and the transmission responses of the two‐output filter. The proposed SIW filtering antenna array has great potential to be integrated into millimeter‐wave transceiver modules. © 2015 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A low‐profile self‐triplexed slot antenna is proposed for multiple system integrations. The antenna comprises of hybrid substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) cavity (a combination of a half‐mode circular and half‐mode rectangular SIW), radiating slot, and feeding network. A slot is imprinted on the upper metal‐layer of the SIW which splits the cavity into three radiating sections. It offers tri‐frequency bands when each section is excited separately. By finely tuning the antenna dimensions, it produces three frequency‐bands around 5.57, 7.17, and 7.65 GHz simultaneously utilizes a single slot with maintaining the intrinsic input‐port isolation better than 20 dB. This property helps to introduce the self‐triplexing phenomenon. Compared with the conventional multiband antennas that use an extra circuitry to ensure the port isolations, this design preserves compactness and easy to integrate with planar circuits Moreover, the proposed antenna is fabricated and the measured results mutually agreed with the simulated counterparts. The proposed design can be a feasible option for mobile transceiver applications.  相似文献

This article presents the design and implementation of a single‐layer wideband millimeter‐wave circularly polarized (CP) monopulse cavity‐backed antenna based on substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) technology. The antenna consists of a 2× 8 array of CP cavity‐backed antenna elements, a 90° 3‐dB coupler, power dividers, and phase shifters. In order to enhance the operating bandwidths, the sequential rotation feeding technology is adopted in the design of the monopulse antenna. To validate the proposed concept, a prototype operating at 42 GHz was fabricated and measured. The measured 3‐dB axial ratio (AR) bandwidth for the sum beam can cover a frequency range from 37 to 46 GHz. The measured gain for the sum beam at the center frequency of 42 GHz is 17.5 dBiC, while the null‐depth of the difference beam is measured to be ?36.8 dB. The proposed monopulse antenna has advantages of low‐cost, easy‐fabrication, and easy integration with planar circuits.  相似文献

A high‐isolation dual‐polarized quad‐patch antenna fed by stacked substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) that is suitable for millimeter‐wave band is proposed in this paper. The antenna consists of a quad‐patch radiator, a two‐layer SIW feeding structure and two feeding ports for horizontal and vertical polarization. The two‐layer stacked SIW feeding structure achieves the high isolation between the two feeding ports (|S21| ≤ ?45 dB). Based on the proposed element, a 1 × 4 antenna array with a simple series‐fed network is also designed and investigated. A prototype working at the frequency band from 38 to 40 GHz is fabricated and tested. The results indicate that the proposed antenna has good radiation performance at 38 GHz that covers future 5G applications.  相似文献

In this article, a wideband leaky‐wave antenna is designed for consistent gain and wide beam scanning angle by using the proposed multilayered substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) composite right/left‐handed transmission line (CRLH TL). The proposed SIW CRLH structure consists of two parts: an interdigital fingers slot of rotating 45° etched on the upper ground of the SIW, and a rotated parasitic patch beneath the slot. Due to the continuous phase constants change from negative to positive values of the proposed SIW‐CRLH under the balanced condition, the designed LWA can achieves a continuous beam‐scanning property from backward to forward over the operating frequency band. The designed antenna is fabricated and measured, the measured and simulated results are in good agreements with each other, indicating that the designed antenna obtains a measured continuous main beam scanning from backward ?78° to forward +76° over the frequency range from 7.7 to 12.8 GHz with a consistent gain of more than 9.5 dB. Besides, the designed antenna also exhibits a measured 3‐dB gain bandwidth of 45.1% with maximum gain of 15 dB. © 2016 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Int J RF and Microwave CAE 26:731–738, 2016.  相似文献

A compact tri‐band multiple‐input‐multiple‐output (MIMO) antenna based on a quarter‐mode slotted substrate‐integrated‐waveguide (SIW) cavity is proposed. By etching a wide slot, a single SIW cavity is divided into two sub‐cavities with the same size. They are fed by coaxial ports to form two MIMO elements and high antenna isolation can be achieved by this slot. To obtain multi‐band operations, two narrow slots are cut in the upper sub‐cavity and the other two slots are etched in the lower sub‐cavity. Three eighth‐mode resonances with different areas can simultaneously occur in these antenna elements. A prototype with the overall size of 0.34λ0 × 0.34λ0 has been fabricated. The measured center frequencies of three operating bands are 2.31, 2.91, and 3.35 GHz, respectively. The measured gain at above frequencies is 4.52, 4.29, and 4.57 dBi, respectively. Moreover, the measured isolation is higher than 16.7 dB within the frequency of interest.  相似文献

This article reports a high gain millimeter‐wave substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) antenna using low cost printed circuit board technology. The half elliptic slots which can provide small shunt admittance, low cross polarization level and low mutual coupling are etched on the board surface of SIW as radiation slots for large array application. Design procedure for analyzing the characteristics of proposed radiation slot, the beam‐forming structure and the array antenna are presented. As examples, an 8 × 8 and a 32 × 32 SIW slot array antennas are designed and verified by experiments. Good agreements between simulation and measured results are achieved, which shows the 8 × 8 SIW slot array antenna has a gain of 20.8 dBi at 42.5 GHz, the maximum sidelobe level of 42.5 GHz E‐plane and H‐plane radiation patterns are 22.3 dB and 22.1 dB, respectively. The 32 × 32 SIW slot array antenna has a maximum measured gain of 30.05 dBi at 42.5 GHz. At 42.3 GHz, the measured antenna has a gain of 29.6 dBi and a maximum sidelobe level of 19.89 dB and 15.0 dB for the E‐plane and H‐plane radiation patterns. © 2015 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A planar substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) based cavity‐backed self‐triplexing slot antenna is proposed for X‐Ku band applications. The antenna comprises of the SIW cavity, radiating slots, and feeding networks. The radiating slots; that are etched on the upper metallic plane of the SIW, are backed up by the three radiated quarter cavities (QCs). The radiating slots in the respective QCs are of different lengths, excited by three separated orthogonal feed lines to resonate at three different frequencies as 11.01, 12.15, and 13.1 GHz. By fine‐tuning the antenna parameters, an intrinsic input port isolation of better than 26 dB is realized which helps in achieving the self‐triplexing property. The behaviors of individual cavity modes at three resonant frequencies are explained with the help of Z‐parameter. The proposed antenna layout is easy to integrate with the planar circuit. The proposed antenna is fabricated and measured results display a close concern with the simulated results. Moreover, a unidirectional radiation pattern and gain of 5.1, 5.54, and 6.12 dBi at resonant frequencies are realized.  相似文献

A novel design of dual‐frequency dual‐sense circularly polarized (CP) substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) cavity‐backed slot antenna is presented for dual‐band wireless communication systems. The proposed antenna consists of square SIW cavity, asymmetrical bow‐tie‐shaped cross slot and probe feed. Due to use of asymmetrical bow‐tie‐shaped cross slot, circularly polarized wave radiates at two different frequencies with opposite sense of polarizations. The RHCP radiation occurs at (10.45‐10.54) GHz (Lower band) and LHCP occurs at (11.26‐11.34) GHz (Upper band). Moreover, in each band, sense of polarization can be change by changing the feed position. The front to back radiation ratio (FTBRR) is more than 10.5 dB and cross polarization level is lower than ?20 dB in both the bands.  相似文献

In this article, a novel electrically small eighth‐mode substrate integrated waveguide (EMSIW) based leaky‐wave antenna (LWA) in planar environment is presented. The proposed antenna uses 1/8th mode SIW resonator which helps to improve compactness of the design while maintaining high gain and increased scanning angle. The proposed SIW cavity is excited by a 50 Ω microstrip line feeding to resonate at dominant TE110 mode in X‐band. The dimensions of the resonators are adjusted to keep resonant mode at same frequency. The fabricated prototype is approximately 5λ0 long. Measured results show that the proposed leaky‐wave antenna is able to operate within frequency range of 8‐10 GHz with beam scanning range of 51° and maximum gain of 13.31 dBi.  相似文献

A planar and compact substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) cavity backed antenna and a 2 × 2 multi‐input multi‐output (MIMO) antenna are presented in this study. The proposed antenna is fed by a grounded coplanar waveguide (GCPW) to SIW type transition and planned to be used for millimeter‐wave (mm‐wave) fifth generation (5G) wireless communications that operates at 28, 38, 45, and 60 GHz frequency bands. Moreover, the measured impedance bandwidth (|S11| ≤ ? 10 dB ) of the antenna covers 27.55 to 29.36, 37.41 to 38.5, 44.14 to 46.19, and 57.57 to 62.32 GHz bands and confirms the quad‐band characteristic. Omni‐directional radiation characteristics are observed in the far‐field radiation pattern measurements of the antenna over the entire operating frequency. The reported antenna is compact in size (9.7 × 13.3 × 0.6 mm3) and the gain values at each resonance frequency are measured as 3.26, 3.28, 3.34, and 4.51 dBi, respectively. Furthermore, the MIMO antenna performance is evaluated in terms of isolation, envelope correlation coefficient and diversity gain.  相似文献

Circularly polarized (CP), beam steering antennas are preferred to reduce the disruptive effects such as multi‐path fading and co‐channel interference in wireless communications systems. Nowadays, intensive studies have been carried out not only on the specific antenna array design but also their feeding networks to achieve circular polarization and beam steering characteristics. A compact broadband CP antenna array with a low loss feed network design is aimed in this work. To improve impedance and CP bandwidth, a feed network with modified Butler matrix and a compact ultra‐wideband square slot antenna element are designed. With this novel design, more than 3 GHz axial ratio BW is achieved. In this study, a broadband meander line compact double box coupler with impedance bandwidth over 4.8‐7 GHz frequency and the phase error less than 3° is used. Also the measured impedance bandwidth of the proposed beam steering array antenna is 60% (from 4.2 to 7.8 GHz). The minimum 3 dB axial ratio bandwidth between ports, support 4.6–6.8 GHz frequency range. The measured peak gain of the proposed array antenna is 8.9 dBic that could scan solid angle about ~91 degree. © 2015 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Int J RF and Microwave CAE 26:146–153, 2016.  相似文献

A 6–18 GHz wideband cavity‐backed log‐periodic‐slot end‐fire antenna with vertical polarization for conformal application is presented. The log‐periodic folded slots and parasitic slots with 10 slot elements are applied to cover 6–18 GHz frequency band and the log‐periodic metallic cavity is placed under each slot element to keep wideband performance and prevent the effects of large metallic carrier on radiation patterns. The ground plane etched with log‐periodic slots is reversed and touched directly to the backed cavity and a dielectric cover is added to the antenna, to further improve the antenna performance. Meanwhile, a broadband microstrip‐coplanar waveguide transition is inserted in the antenna for measurements. With these designs, the proposed antenna shows good impedance matching (|S11|<27 dB) and end‐fire gain (>4 dBi) performances in 6–18 GHz. The proposed antenna also keeps low‐profile and easy flush‐mounted characteristic which is suitable for conformal applications of high speed moving carriers.  相似文献

A cavity‐backed antenna with low‐profile, dual‐polarization, and wide operating bandwidth characteristics is proposed. In this design, two orthogonally positioned triangular bowtie antennas printed on a low‐cost substrate are loaded onto a square cavity, so that two orthogonal linear polarizations can be excited. By further introducing four extended ground stubs from each side of the square cavity, the proposed antenna can also acquire low‐profile characteristic of approximately 0.1λ (15 mm). To achieve good impedance matching, additional circular slots are introduced into each bowtie design. The measured results show that the proposed antenna can cover a wide operating bandwidth of 62% (2.0–3.8 GHz) with a VSWR of 2:1. Besides exhibiting good isolation (>20 dB) between the two feeding ports, desirable realized gains (6.0–10.5 dBi) over the wide operation band are also demonstrated. © 2016 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. This paper presents a novel two layers beam‐steering array antenna fed by a 4 × 4 modified Butler matrix. Each of the radiation elements have been replaced by a collection of 2 × 2 circularly polarized (CP) square patches, which joined together by a modified sequentially rotated feed network. The antenna array consists of 2 × 5 CP square patches, which connected to four ring sequential rotation and fed by butler matrix. The proposed Butler matrix which plays a role as beam‐steering feed network consists of four novel 90° circular patch couplers and two 45° half circular patch phase shifter. Altogether, using of a 2 × 5 phased array antenna and a modified Butler matrix cause to empower array antenna for covering frequency range between 4.67 to 6.09GHz, the maximum gain of 14.98 dB and 3‐dB axial ratio bandwidth of 1.2GHz (4.9~6.1GHz) is attained.  相似文献

A three‐element quasi Yagi‐Uda antenna array with printed metamaterial surface generated from the array of uniplanar capacitively loaded loop (CLL) unit‐cells printed on the substrate operating in the band 25‐30 GHz is proposed. The metamaterial surface is configured to provide a high‐refractive index to tilt the electromagnetic (EM) beam from the two dipole antennas placed opposite to each other. The metamaterial region focuses the rays from the dipole antenna and hence increases the gain of the individual antennas by about 5 dBi. The antenna elements are printed on a 10 mil substrate with a center to center separation of about 0.5 λ 0 at 28 GHz. The three‐element antenna covers 25‐30 GHz band with measured return loss of 10 dB and isolation greater than 15 dB between all the three ports. The measured gain of about 11 dBi is achieved for all the antenna elements. The three antenna elements radiate in three different directions and cover a radiation scan angle of 64°.  相似文献

A beam scanning Fabry‐Pérot cavity antenna (FPCA) for 28 GHz‐band is presented in this article. The proposed antenna consists of a slot‐fed patch antenna and several layers of perforated superstrates with different dielectric constant. The beam of the antenna can be controlled by moving the superstrate over the antenna. By increasing the offset between the feeding antenna and the superstrate, a larger tilt angle can be obtained. The size of the antenna is 0.95λ0 × 0.95λ0 × 0.48λ0 at 28.5 GHz. The results show the proposed antenna achieves an impedance bandwidth (S11 < ‐10 dB) of 10.5% (27.2‐30.2 GHz), and the beam can be scanned from 0° to 14° in the yoz‐plane with the offset changed from 0 mm to 2 mm. The gain of the antenna is enhanced by 5 dBi in comparison with the feeding antenna without the superstrate, which ranges from 10.91 to 11.53 dBi with the different offset. The proposed antenna is fabricated and shows a good agreement with simulated result.  相似文献
