This study aims at improving the quality and effectiveness of decision-making in new product introduction. New product development has long been recognized as one of the corporate core functions to be competitive on an increasingly competitive global market. However, developing new products is a process involving risk and uncertainty. In order to solve this stochastic problem, companies need to evaluate their new product initiatives carefully and make accurate decisions. For this reason, a systematic decision process for selecting more rational new product ideas is proposed. Basically, two stages of decision-making are described: the identification of nondominated new product candidates and the selection of the best new product idea. These stages are composed of an integrated approach based on a fuzzy heuristic multi-attribute utility method and a hierarchical fuzzy TOPSIS method. Finally, an application is given to demonstrate the potential of the methodology.  相似文献

As customer requirements for high-tech products vary and become complicated, the lifecycle of these products becomes much shorter. In response to this market environment, many manufacturing companies have established a global simultaneous launch strategy for new products to occupy markets before competitors. In this process, careful scheduling of the global simultaneous launch strategy is critical. In particular, to meet the launch schedule for each country in which a new product will be released, a collaboration process among relevant departments must be prepared, and correct product information should be maintained among major cooperative work support systems according to new product development business processes. This paper suggests a collaboration model integrating product lifecycle management and supply chain management as an approach to supporting complicated new product development procedures. Companies have been striving to achieve product innovation and cost savings to keep up with a rapidly changing manufacturing environment, as well as to deliver new products just in time and earlier than their competitors. Their strategic goals include effective decision making with regard to product life cycles, predicting market demand, and timing new product launches through the optimization of demand and supply of products. However, most products that enter a decline stage experience a decline in sales, which in turn causes an increase in warehouse costs, and a decline in competitiveness, owing to a delay in the release of new products. In this paper, we propose a fuzzy-based decision-making method to effectively evaluate products to be discontinued at the product transition point after taking into account market uncertainties and characteristics of businesses in companies. Therefore, we conduct the matrix analysis and the Pareto analysis for quantitative evaluation of four stages of the product life cycle based on market demand information for target product groups, apply the results of this analysis to the fuzzy-based qualitative evaluation model, and subsequently infer the discontinuity priority for product models that are expected to be replaced by new products. Furthermore, we develop the PTP portfolio system to identify a list of product models to be discontinued, as well as to review their percentage of sales contribution with respect to the overall product sales of the company.  相似文献

A recurring difficulty for organizations that employ a product-line approach to development is that when a new product is added to an existing product line, there is currently no automated way to verify the completeness and consistency of the new product’s requirements in terms of the product line. In this paper we address the issue of requirements verification for product lines. We have implemented our approach in a requirements engineering tool called DECIMAL (DECIsion Modeling AppLication). DECIMAL is a requirements verification tool with a rich graphical user interface that automatically checks for completeness and consistency between a new product and the product line to which it belongs. The verification uses an SQL database server as the underlying analysis engine. The paper describes the tool and evaluates it in two applications: a virtual-reality, positional device-driver product line and the feature-interaction resolution problem.Research is supported in part by National Science Foundation Grants 0204139 and 0205588. In this paper, we provide a new paradigm for product design by considering lifetime performance of a product at an early stage of product development. Two new concepts are introduced: time-dependent stepped quality loss function for product life and floating targets for functional characteristics. Research has emphasized the importance of employees' individual entrepreneurial decision making for innovation. In this context, practised creativity as the ability to perceive and exploit creative opportunities, can be regarded as a crucial requirement for employees in new product development. We discuss the application of decision making logic as an important antecedent of practised creativity in new product development. We survey 219 employees from new product development departments of German product and service firms. Results indicate that the use of entrepreneurial decision making logic positively impacts practised creativity; comparably we find indicators that the use of causal decision making logic negatively influences creativity. The effects significantly depend on the moderating role of uncertainty. The results contribute to the literature of creativity, entrepreneurship and new product development by theoretically and empirically revealing effectuation as antecedent to practised creativity. The results open promising avenues for future research and allow the derivation of valuable guidelines for practitioners. Aligning the new product development process to support employees' entrepreneurial decision making may help generating practised creativity.  相似文献

A company like RCA may decide to design a new computer for a variety of reasons, most of them non-technical. First, as with the mainframe computer manufacturers, a new computer may be introduced in order to continue or expand an existing line of computer systems within the firm's overall product line. In such cases, the new computer will be similar to the other members of the product line family. Second, it may be a new item added to a firm's present product line in order to augment other electronic products. This has frequently been the case in the semiconductor business. If, however, a new computer is successful, additional computer products such as memory devices and I/O controllers may be developed as well.  相似文献
