Evaluated A. R. Pike and L. Dalgleish's (see record 1982-11178-001) assertion that certain constraints exist that mitigate D. Weatherburn's (see record 1979-25180-001) arguments against the latency–probability function (LPF) as a basis for evaluating theories of RT. It is concluded that although not every use of the LPF may be inappropriate, its use in evaluating certain theories that are often compared remains of dubious value. This work encompasses the development of low‐viscosity cyclic oligomer underfill formulations that cure without heat evolution. Boron nitride, silica‐coated aluminum nitride, and alumina ceramic powders were used as fillers in cyclic butylene terephthalate oligomer melts. The melts were heated with a suitable catalyst to induce polymerization. The effects of the filler type and composition on the thermal and mechanical properties of the poly(butylene terephthalate)/filler composites were examined with differential scanning calorimetry, temperature‐modulated differential scanning calorimetry, thermogravimetric analysis, thermomechanical analysis, and dynamic mechanical analysis. Water samples from a local water treatment plant were analyzed, using gas chromatography Fourier transform ion cyclotron resonance mass spectrometry (GC/FT-ICR MS), to identify potential disinfection byproducts (DBPs). Both liquid-liquid extraction (LLE) and solid-phase microextraction (SPME) techniques were used for sample preparation prior to GC/MS analyses. Based on the averaged mass measurement accuracy (MMA) of better than five parts-per-million (<5 ppm), multiple solvent artifacts were identified. It is shown that solventless SPME can be utilized to reduce potential interferences from solvent stabilizers. Six DBPs were detected and their molecular compositions were assigned at a high level of confidence. At the ppb concentration ranges and in the broadband mass spectral detection mode, internally calibrated mass spectra provided concurrent high resolution (resolving power M/deltaM50% > 30,000 at m/z values -110) and MMA of better than one part-per-million (MMA < 1 ppm). The use of thermochemical data, such as proton affinities, as a complementary tool to enhance analytical resolution is also demonstrated.  相似文献

Mosquito resistant apparel has become increasingly sought-after due to the rise in vector-borne illnesses such as the Zika Virus, Malaria, and Dengue Fever. Botanical insect repellents have been introduced to the market for consumers that desire a natural solution involving no pesticides or added chemicals. Fabric swatches consisting of 80% nylon and 20% elastane were separately treated with an organic repellent using a patented nonwoven vessel. The fabrics were then tested for effectiveness in repelling the mosquito Aedes aegypti using an arm-in-cage assay, the most commonly used method for mosquito repellents. The repellents were also evaluated and rated by study participants according to their preference for the appeal of the scent. The treatment method is user-friendly, enabling consumers to treat their clothing with an organic insect repellent as opposed to applying a synthetic chemical to their clothing and skin. The infused fabrics showed to be effective at repelling mosquitoes for up to 8 h after repellent infusion.  相似文献

The Basidiomycota fungi represent a diverse source of natural products, particularly the sesquiterpenoids. Recently, genome sequencing, genome mining, and the subsequent discovery of a suite of sesquiterpene synthases in Omphalotus olearius was described. A predictive framework was developed to facilitate the discovery of sesquiterpene synthases in Basidiomycota. Phylogenetic analyses indicated a conservation of both sequence and initial cyclization mechanisms used. Here, the first robust application of this predictive framework is reported. It was used to selectively identify sesquiterpene synthases that follow 1,6‐, 1,10‐, and 1,11‐cyclization mechanisms in the crust fungus Stereum hirsutum. The successful identification and characterization of a 1,6‐ and a 1,10‐cyclizing sesquiterpene synthase, as well as three 1,11‐cyclizing Δ6‐protoilludene synthases, is described. This study verifies the accuracy and utility of the predictive framework as a roadmap for the discovery of specific sesquiterpene synthases from Basidiomycota, and thus represents an important step forward in natural product discovery.  相似文献

Objective: The current study investigated individual growth in autonomy development across the adolescent transition, comparing the trajectories of children with and without spina bifida. Method: Individual growth curve modeling procedures were utilized to describe the developmental course of autonomy across four waves of data collection, from ages 9 to 15, and to test whether illness status [spina bifida vs. matched comparison group (N = 68 for both groups at Time 1)] would significantly predict individual variability in autonomy development. Potential moderators [child gender, SES, and Peabody Picture Vocabulary Test (PPVT) score] of the association between illness status and autonomy development were also examined. Results: Children with spina bifida demonstrated distinct developmental trajectories, though the nature of the group differences varied by type of autonomy development (emotional vs. behavioral), context (i.e. school vs. family), and reporter. Significant interactions with PPVT score and child gender were found. Conclusion: Overall, children with spina bifida show considerable developmental resiliency, but may lag behind their peers in specific areas of autonomy. Boys with spina bifida, and children with spina bifida who have lower than average levels of verbal intelligence, appear to be at greater risk for exhibiting delays in autonomy development. A new series of six imidazolium‐based ionenes containing aromatic amide linkages has been developed. These ionene‐polyamides are all constitutional isomers varying in the regiochemistry of the amide linkages (para, meta) and xylyl linkages (ortho, meta, para) along the polymer backbone. The physical properties as well as the gas separation behaviors of the corresponding membranes have been extensively studied. These ionene‐polyamide membranes show excellent thermal and mechanical stabilities, together with self‐healing and shape memory characteristics. Most importantly, [TC‐API(p)‐Xy][Tf2N] and [IC‐API(m)‐Xy][Tf2N] membranes (TC, terephthaloyl chloride; API, 1‐(3‐aminopropyl)imidazole; Xy, xylyl; Tf2N, bis(trifluoromethylsulfonyl) imide; IC, isophthaloyl chloride), where the amide and xylyl linkages are attached at para and meta positions, exhibit superior selectivity for CO2/CH4 and CO2/N2 gas pairs. We also demonstrate the transport properties and diverse applicability of our newly developed ionene‐polyamides, particularly [TC‐API(p)‐Xy][Tf2N], for various industrial applications. © 2019 Society of Chemical Industry  相似文献

Perlecan has been previously been shown to support attachment of a wide variety of cells through interactions of its core protein with the cell surface. The core protein domains involved in cell adhesion are, however, unknown. The laminin-like domain III of murine perlecan contains an RGDS sequence and is a likely candidate for supporting integrin-mediated cell attachment. We made a cDNA construct corresponding to domain III and containing an in frame signal peptide at the 5' end as well as in frame a stop codon at the 3' end by using cDNA clones to perlecan. The construct was inserted into the pRC/CMV vector and transfected into HT1080 cells, and the secreted recombinant domain III, a 130-kDa protein, was purified from the medium. The size of proteolytic fragments produced by digestion with V8 protease as well as analysis of the rotary shadowed image of the recombinant protein indicated it was produced in a native conformation. Recombinant domain III coated on tissue culture dishes, supports adhesion of an epithelial-like mouse mammary tumor cell line MMT 060562 in a dose-dependent manner. This interaction was inhibited specifically by the RGDS synthetic peptide and intact perlecan, but not laminin. This domain III RGD-dependent cell attachment activity indicates a role for perlecan in integrin-mediated signaling.  相似文献
