Approximate string matching is used for spelling correction and personal name matching. In this paper we show how to use string matching techniques in conjunction with lexicon indexes to find approximate matches in a large lexicon. We test several lexicon indexing techniques, including n-grams and permuted lexicons, and several string matching techniques, including string similarity measures and phonetic coding. We propose methods for combining these techniques, and show experimentally that these combinations yield good retrieval effectiveness while keeping index size and retrieval time low. Our experiments also suggest that, in contrast to previous claims, phonetic codings are markedly inferior to string distance measures, which are demonstrated to be suitable for both spelling correction and personal name matching.  相似文献

The in situ forces and their distribution within the human anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) can clarify this ligament's role in the knee and help to resolve controversies regarding surgical treatment of ACL deficiency. We used a universal force-moment sensor (UFS) to determine the magnitude, direction, and point of application of the in situ forces in the ACL in intact human cadaveric knees. Unlike previous studies, this approach does not require surgical intervention, the attachment of mechanical devices to or near the ACL, or a priori assumptions about the direction of in situ force. Anterior tibial loads were applied to intact knees, which were limited to 1 degree of freedom at 30 degrees flexion. The in situ forces developed in the ACL were lower than the applied force for loads under 80 N, but larger for applied loads of more than 80 N. The direction of the force vector corresponded to that of the anteromedial (AM) portion of the ACL insertion on the tibial plateau. The point of force application was located in the posterior section of the anteromedial portion of the tibial insertion site. The anterior and posterior aspects of the anteromedial portion of the ACL supported 25% and 70% of the in situ force, respectively, with the remainder carried by the posterolateral portion. We believe that the data obtained with this new UFS methodology improves our understanding of the role of the ACL in knee function, and that this methodology can be easily extended to study the function of other ligaments.  相似文献

Several Ni-Al-Mo-based eutectic superalloys were rapidly solidified using a chilled block melt spinning process. The effects of rapid solidification on the microstructure were studied using optical microscopy, transmission electron microscopy (TEM), and scanning transmission electron microscopy (STEM). Results showed, except for the alloy containing chromium, that the microstructure varied as a function of ribbon thickness from segregationless solidification at the wheel side of the ribbon to dendritic solidification at the free side. In addition, alloys with the same solidification rate showed a large variation in microstructure depending upon the solid state cooling rate. The rapidly solidified eutectic Ni-Al-Mo alloy with a small amount of rhenium and vanadium did not show any improvement on delaying or prohibiting the formation of the embrittling-NiMo phase on ageing at 1000 C. This was determined from microstructural as well as chemical analysis using STEM. Differential thermal analysis was used to obtain melting temperature,-Ni3Al solvus, and heat of formation for the alloys.  相似文献

In this paper, we develop a framework of Question Answering Pages (referred to as QA pages) recommendation. Our proposed framework consists of the two modules: the off-line module to determine the importance of QA pages and the on-line module for on-line QA page recommendation. In the off-line module, we claim that the importance of QA pages could be discovered from user click streams. If the QA pages are of higher importance, many users will click and spend their time on these QA pages. Moreover, the relevant relationships among QA pages are captured by the browsing behavior on these QA pages. As such, we exploit user click streams to model the browsing behavior among QA pages as QA browsing graph structures. The importance of QA pages is derived from our proposed QA browsing graph structures. However, we observe that the QA browsing graph is sparse and that most of the QA pages do not link to other QA pages. This is referred to as a sparsity problem. To overcome this problem, we utilize the latent browsing relations among QA pages to build a QA Latent Browsing Graph. In light of QA latent browsing graph, the importance score of QA pages (referred to as Latent Browsing Rank) and the relevance score of QA pages (referred to as Latent Browsing Recommendation Rank) are proposed. These scores demonstrate the use of a QA latent browsing graph not only to determine the importance of QA pages but also to recommend QA pages. We conducted extensive empirical experiments on Yahoo! Asia Knowledge Plus to evaluate our proposed framework.  相似文献

In recent years, the proliferation of the world wide web has lead to an increase in a number of applications such as search, social networks and auctions, whose success depends critically upon the number of users of that service. Two examples of such applications are internet auctions and social networks. One of the characteristics of online auctions is that a successful implementation requires a high volume of buyers and sellers at its website. Consequently, auction sites which have a high volume of traffic have an advantage over those in which the volume is limited. This results in even greater polarization of buyers and sellers towards a particular site. The same is true for social networks in which greater use of a given social network increases the use from other participants on the network. This is often referred to as the “network effect” in a variety of interaction-centric applications in networks. While this effect has qualitatively been known to increase the value of the overall network, its effect has never been modeled or studied rigorously. In this paper, we construct a Markov model to analyze the network effect in the case of two important classes of web applications. These correspond to auctions and social networks. We show that the network effect is very powerful and can result in a situation in which an auction or a social networking site can quickly overwhelm its competing sites. Thus, the results of this paper show the tremendous power of the network effect for Web 2.0 applications.  相似文献

Myoclonus-dystonia (DYT-SGCE, formerly DYT11) is characterized by alcohol-sensitive, myoclonic-like appearance of fast dystonic movements. It is caused by mutations in the SGCE gene encoding ε-sarcoglycan leading to a dysfunction of this transmembrane protein, alterations in the cerebello-thalamic pathway and impaired striatal plasticity. To elucidate underlying pathogenic mechanisms, we investigated induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC)-derived striatal medium spiny neurons (MSNs) from two myoclonus-dystonia patients carrying a heterozygous mutation in the SGCE gene (c.298T>G and c.304C>T with protein changes W100G and R102X) in comparison to two matched healthy control lines. Calcium imaging showed significantly elevated basal intracellular Ca2+ content and lower frequency of spontaneous Ca2+ signals in SGCE MSNs. Blocking of voltage-gated Ca2+ channels by verapamil was less efficient in suppressing KCl-induced Ca2+ peaks of SGCE MSNs. Ca2+ amplitudes upon glycine and acetylcholine applications were increased in SGCE MSNs, but not after GABA or glutamate applications. Expression of voltage-gated Ca2+ channels and most ionotropic receptor subunits was not altered. SGCE MSNs showed significantly reduced GABAergic synaptic density. Whole-cell patch-clamp recordings displayed elevated amplitudes of miniature postsynaptic currents and action potentials in SGCE MSNs. Our data contribute to a better understanding of the pathophysiology and the development of novel therapeutic strategies for myoclonus-dystonia.  相似文献

Neurodegenerative diseases (NDs) including Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, and Huntington’s disease are incurable and affect millions of people worldwide. The development of treatments for this unmet clinical need is a major global research challenge. Computer-aided drug design (CADD) methods minimize the huge number of ligands that could be screened in biological assays, reducing the cost, time, and effort required to develop new drugs. In this review, we provide an introduction to CADD and examine the progress in applying CADD and other molecular docking studies to NDs. We provide an updated overview of potential therapeutic targets for various NDs and discuss some of the advantages and disadvantages of these tools.  相似文献
