The liquid film flow down an oscillating plate was used as a suitable flow configuration to study the dynamic behaviour of electrodiffusion friction probes at large fluctuations. The two-segment probe was flush mounted into the plate wall to measure the fluctuating wall shear rate. The hydrodynamics of the experiment made it possible to adjust both the steady and oscillatory component of the wall shear rate through the operation parameters (flow rate, plate inclination, amplitude and frequency of wall oscillations). The approximate model of the probe dynamic response based on the similarity of concentration profiles at the probe surface was verified. This simple model proved to be able to calculate the instantaneous wall shear rate from the measured current signal even at large flow fluctuations. The analysis of the probe dynamic behaviour under reversing flow conditions provided a new method of the detection of short-time flow reversal. Finally, this method was successfully applied to confirm the existence of a small backflow region located in front of the large solitary waves, which were excited on the surface of a liquid film flowing down an inclined stationary plate. 相似文献

BACKGROUND: Pathways involved in androgen metabolism have been implicated in the etiology of prostate cancer. The goal of this study was to evaluate the effect of CYP3A4, a gene associated with the oxidative deactivation of testosterone, on the clinical presentation of prostate cancers. METHODS: A polymerase chain reaction-based approach was used to identify sequence variants of the human CYP3A4 gene. To ascertain whether allelic variants of the CYP3A4 gene were associated with tumor stage and grade and age of the patient at diagnosis, we determined CYP3A4 genotypes in 230 Caucasian men with incident prostate cancer. RESULTS: We identified a novel genetic variant (CYP3A4-V) that has an altered 5' regulatory element, containing an A to G mutation, upstream of the CYP3A4 gene. We then compared clinical characteristics of prostate cancers in men who did and did not carry this variant. The presence of the CYP3A4-V allele was associated with a higher tumor-lymph node-metastasis (TNM) stage and Gleason grade. The association between CYP3A4 genotype and tumor stage was most pronounced in men diagnosed at a relatively old age who reported no family history of prostate cancer. In this group, 46% of men with stage T3/T4 tumors carried CYP3A4-V, whereas only 5% of individuals with stage T1 tumors carried CYP3A4-V (adjusted odds ratio = 9.45; 95% confidence interval = 2.54-35.17; chi2(1) = 12.28; two-sided P<.001). CONCLUSIONS: We determined that a single base change in the 5' flanking region of the CYP3A4 gene was associated with higher clinical stage and grade in men with prostate tumors. Geochemical experiments on 11 cores and 14 crude oil/oil sand samples from Qingdong sag have been performed. The oils range from immature to mature and some of the oils suffered biodegradation. The Es3l member of the Shahejie Formation (group A) deposits under fresh water. The Es4u member (group B) mainly deposits in brackish-saline evaporate environment, generating both immature and mature oils. Results show the nonbiodegraded oils in Es3l reservoirs in the north of the sag (group I) come from mature Es3l member (group A), while those in Es4u reservoirs (group III) come from mature Es3l (group A) and Es4u (group B1) members in the north; the less biodegraded oils (group II) in the western slope are the admixture of immature and mature oils of Es4u member (group B2) in the north; immature oils (group V) in the south are from the neighboring low mature Es4u member (group B3), and the most severely biodegraded oils (group IV) in the southern come from Dongying sag, except oils from well QD-8 that have a contribution from Es4u member (group B3) from Qingdong sag. 相似文献

Voltage-step transient experiments are used to calibrate electrodiffusion (ED) friction probes. The approach is demonstrated on the probes in high-speed rotating impellers. This calibration has shown that shear rates as high as 106s-1 can be measured reliably using 0.5mm Pt working electrodes in ferro/ferricyanide aqueous solutions. PURPOSE: We retrospectively evaluated the role of Valsalva leak point pressure as a predictor of successful management of post-radical retropubic prostatectomy incontinence with collagen injection. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Urodynamic studies and Valsalva leak point pressures of 31 men who received retrograde collagen injection for post-radical retropubic prostatectomy incontinence were reviewed. Patients were interviewed before and after treatment to assess pad use and the American Urological Association quality of life index (scale 0 to 6). Parameters for success were postoperative quality of life score 3 or less or 50% or greater decrease in pad use and that the patient would recommend collagen therapy to someone else. RESULTS: Of 31 patients 11 (35%) met the criteria for success, 2 (6%) were completely dry and 9 (29%) were improved. Successfully treated patients had a mean Valsalva leak point pressure of 64.0 cm. water compared to 42.2 cm. water in the failure group (p <0.01). Of patients with Valsalva leak point pressure of 60 cm. water or greater, 70% responded favorably to collagen injection (positive predictive value), while 81% with Valsalva leak point pressure less than 60 cm. water had treatment failure (negative predictive value) (p <0.02). There were no other statistically significant differences between those successfully treated with collagen injection and those in whom treatment failed, including mean age (62.7 to 68.1 years), mean volume of collagen (26.1 to 28.9 ml.), mean number of treatment sessions (2.45 to 2.65), mean followup (14.9 to 15.1 months), preoperative quality of life score (5.1 to 4.9), and preoperative pads per day (4.0 to 3.37). CONCLUSIONS: Our data suggest that collagen injection improves 35% but cures a minority of patients (less than 10%) with post-radical retropubic prostatectomy incontinence. A pretreatment Valsalva leak point pressure of 60 cm. water or greater has high predictive value for a beneficial outcome after collagen injection. We propose a role for Valsalva leak point pressure to select men cost-effectively with post-radical retropubic prostatectomy incontinence for therapy with collagen injection. 相似文献
