This paper examines the mechanics of ball shear testing with the objective of understanding the mechanism by which the maximum shear force and the rate of crack growth is dependent on the solder bump size. For this, Pb-Sn solder bumps with diameters between 460 μm and 760 μm are soldered to 400 μm-diameter Cu pads and subjected to ball shear testing. In spite of the constant interface area, the bump size significantly impacts the measured shear fracture force and the crack growth rate. Both the fracture force and the crack growth rate increase with bump size, and in the case of the fracture force, the increase is almost linear. Our analysis finds that the linear increase in the fracture force is a result of the bump deformation force, which increases with bump size. A simple model that accounts for the deformation force component is developed and used to extract the true interface fracture force. The estimated true interface fracture force is found to vary little with bump size, tightly converging to the 40 MPa to 48 MPa range. On the other hand, the dependence of crack growth rate on bump size is found to result from the higher degree of rotational moment associated with larger bumps.  相似文献

Electrolytic deposition of magnesium-substituted hydroxyapatite (Mg-HAp) coatings on titanium was investigated and Mg-HAp crystals with up to 2 wt.% Mg2+ were deposited in electrolytes with various Mg2+ concentration. The incorporation of Mg substantially changed the morphology of the HAp crystals and decreased the crystal size and crystallinity of the HAp. The similarity with natural dentin and bone in composition and the increased specific surface of the Mg-HAp coatings on the Ti substrates were believed to benefit the bioactivity and the drug-carrying properties of the coatings.  相似文献

Unique ZnO microcrystal composed of hierarchical nanorod arrays was successfully prepared by a surfactant-free process in aqueous solution under moderate temperature. The products were characterized by X-ray powder diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The as-prepared ZnO microstructures are of hexagonal phase and high purity. On the basis of SEM images and parallel experiments, a possible formation mechanism for this ZnO microcrystal with hierarchical nanorod arrays is proposed and the reaction temperatures are found to have great influence on inducing secondary nucleation and the hierarchical growth. In addition, the optical properties of the ZnO samples were also investigated by the photoluminescence (PL) spectrometer.  相似文献

A two-dimensional finite element analysis is presented to predict crack growth behavior of cracked panels repaired with bonded composite patch. Fatigue experiments were conducted with precracked aluminum specimens of two thicknesses (1 and 6.35 mm), with and without debond, and repaired asymmetrically. Fatigue lives of thick and thin repaired panels extended four and ten times relative to unrepaired cases, respectively. The predicted fatigue crack growth rates were in agreement with experimental values at the unpatched face but not at the patched face. Thus, the present analysis provides a conservative assessment of durability and damage tolerance of repaired thin and thick panels.  相似文献

Numerical tools are now used widely in the prediction of material properties necessary in order to gain a better understanding of the relationship between material properties and performance, to improve the reliability of processes and the quality of the final product, and to reduce costs, waste and energy use. In this paper, the solidification properties and the microstructure of some commercial Ni based alloys were analysed and predicted numerically using the ProCAST software. The microstructure of a sample obtained by the direct additive laser growth, a new additive manufacturing technique based on the selective laser melting, is presented and discussed. The current review focuses on the relevance and practical benefit of interpolymer radical coupling methods. The latter are developing rapidly and constitute a perfectly complementary macromolecular engineering toolbox to the controlled radical polymerization techniques (CRP). Indeed, all structures formed by CRP are likely to be prone to radical coupling reactions, which multiply the available synthetic possibilities. Basically, the coupling systems can be divided in two main categories. The first one, including the atom transfer radical coupling (ATRC), silane radical atom abstraction (SRAA) and cobalt-mediated radical coupling (CMRC), relies on the recombination of macroradicals produced from a dormant species. The second one, including atom transfer nitroxide radical coupling (ATNRC), single electron transfer nitroxide radical coupling (SETNRC), enhanced spin capturing polymerization (ESCP) and nitrone/nitroso mediated radical coupling (NMRC), makes use of a radical scavenger in order to promote the conjugation of the polymer chains. More than a compilation of macromolecular engineering achievements, the present review additionally aims to emphasize the particularities, synthetic potential and present limitations of each system.  相似文献

Selective fabrication of single crystalline tellurium nanorods of various lengths and spherical nanoparticles can be easily achieved by a simple hydrothermal reduction method. The product was characterised by X-ray diffraction, transmission electron microscopy, high-resolution transmission electron microscopy, selected area electron diffraction and energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy techniques. It was found that when the concentration of orthotelluric acid gradually increased from 4 to 10, 20, 30 and 50?mM with other conditions controlled, the morphology of the tellurium nanocrystals gradually changed from long nanorod to shorter nanorods and eventually became spherical. Based on the experimental results, the morphology control mechanism of tellurium nanocrytals was well reasoned.  相似文献

The safe preservation of new generation foods (high moisture, low salt, high pH and shelf stable under ambient conditions) is microbiologically challenging. The growth of Clostridium botulinum in low acid foods is a hazard for consumers. In this study the combined effect of salt (sodium chloride) (0–4% w/v), potassium sorbate (0–4% w/v) and nisin (0–300 ppm) at two different pHs (5.5 and 7) on the probability of growth of Clostridium sporogenes spores, as a non-toxigenic surrogate of C. botulinum, was evaluated in nutrient broth. Nutrient broth was used as it can easily and accurately be adjusted and controlled in terms of composition, and allows more rapid growth than is observed in food. The aims of this study were to develop probability of growth models in which the logit is expressed as a function of the concentrations of the selected preservatives. The developed models fit the data adequately. The c-values models were close to 1, indicating good predictive power. This indicates the performance of models would be satisfactory. The results of this study indicated that salt, potassium sorbate and nisin had significant inhibitory effects on the growth of C. sporogenes in high moisture (>95%) and high pH conditions (pH > 4.5). Combinations of the selected preservatives were more effective than any of them individually. The inhibitory effects of all three preservatives in the current study were pH dependent. Less stringent combinations of preservative concentrations were required experimentally to stop growth at pH 5.5 compared with pH 7.  相似文献

Stress corrosion crack growth rates of 304L stainless steel after one-directionally warm-rolled along the longitudinal (L) direction were measured in oxygenated and deoxygenated pure water at 288 °C. The fracture mode is mainly intergranular in the Transverse-longitudinal (T-L) orientation specimen, while it is occasionally intergranular in the Longitudinal-transverse (L-T) orientation specimen. The crack growth rates in the T-L orientation are higher than those in the L-T orientation in both oxygenated and deoxygenated environments, which is related to the effective cracking growth path as the result of microstructural anisotropy and applied loading direction.  相似文献
