Evaluation of different coating systems by electrochemical methods

Corrosion protection of organic coated steel is determined by free corrosion potential measurements and impedance spectroscopy. The results are classified by means of very basic considerations and evaluation figures are developed. These electrochemical data are correlated with the extent of the corrosion for each coating system. The evaluation figures are used for ranking coating systems and this ranking is correlated with the ranking with reference to the results of standardized and exposure tests.     

Human catalase is imported and assembled in peroxisomes of Saccharomyces cerevisiae

To study the conservation of peroxisomal targeting signals, we have determined the intracellular localization of human peroxisomal catalase when expressed in yeast. Using immunofluorescence, differential centrifugation and immunoelectron microscopy, we show that the protein is targeted to the peroxisomes of the heterologous cell and assembled in its active tetrameric form. These data show the conservation of the catalase targeting signal and import specificity between human and yeast peroxisomes.

Effect of different rates of N-fertilizers on nodulation, nodule activities and growth of two field grown cvs. of soybean

The effect of N fertilizers on nodulation, nitrogenase, nitrate reductase activities and growth of two cultivars of soybean, Clark and Crauford was evaluated in a field experiment. KNO₃ or NH₄Cl were applied 27 days after planting at 0,16, 32, 64 and 128 kg N/ha. Nodulation and growth of both cultivars significantly increased when N was applied at low levels whereas specific N₂-ase activity (SNA) slightly and insignificantly increased. Cv Crauford showed a greater positive response than cv. Clark. Higher rates of KNO₃ and NH₄Cl (128 kg N/ha) significantly depressed nodulation and SNA but slightly decreased the plant dry matter. Cv. Crauford was more tolerant to N fertilizers than cv. Clark. The decline in SNA was ascribed to increased nitrate reductase activity (NRA) and higher accumulation of nitrites in nodule cytosol. NRA and nitrate contents in nodules of cv. Clark were greater than that in cv. Crauford. Results showed that NH₄ ⁺ is the preferred N source with occasional increases in nodule number and weight. This study provides an evidence for the nodulation and growth variability of soybean cultivars fertilized with different levels of N. The results also suggest that diminishing NRA could contribute to increased N₂ fixation and the interaction between NO₃ ^– assimilation and N₂ fixation is strongly dependent on the plant cultivar.

Distinction between enzymically and chemically catalyzed interesterification

The 1,3-specific lipase-catalyzed interesterified fats were distinguished from chemically catalyzed products by the fatty acids in the 2-position. The fatty acid contents in the 2-position of the 1,3-lipase-catalyzed and the original triglycerides were similar but different from that of chemically interesterified fat. Also, the saturated-to-unsaturated fatty acid ratio in the 2-monoglycerides was lower for the 1,3-specific lipase-catalyzed interesterified fats than for the corresponding chemical products.

复合钙钛矿Pb（Fe1／2Nb1／2）O3的弛豫特性

制备了纯钙钛矿相Ｐｂ（Ｆｅ１／２Ｎｂ１／２）Ｏ３（ＰＦＮ）陶瓷，研究其介电性能表明，ＰＦＮ陶瓷无论退火与否都存在弥散性相变（ＤＰＴ）现象，未退火试样εｍａｘ对应的温度Ｔｍ不随测量频率变化，退火试样的Ｔｍ随频率变化，即表现出Ｔｍ频率色散现象，结合ＸＲＤ分析，指出ＰＦＮ应属弛豫铁电体。     

伤寒沙门氏菌特异性θ诊断血清的应用

应用新的特异性θ诊断血清和传统商品血清与434株伤寒沙门氏菌地方株作玻片凝集平行试验，两者诊断符合率为100％。θ血清与0．1％酚琼脂斜面上的所有伤寒沙门氏菌呈迅速清晰的阳性凝集反应。鉴于θ血清与大多数D群沙门氏菌不凝集，因此，大大提高诊断的正确性。
