The samples of the series Co1+ySnyFe2- 2y- xCrxO4 ferrites with x = 0.0, 0.1, 0.2, 0.3, 0.4, 0.5 and y = 0.05, were prepared by the usual double sintering ceramic technique. The single- phase spinel structure of the samples was confirmed by using X- ray diffractometry technique. The lattice parameter ’a’ with an accuracy of ± 0.002 Å were determined using Bragg peaks of XRD pattern. The lattice parameter ’a’ decreases with concentration, x, which is due to the difference in the ionic radii of Cr3+ and Fe3+ ions. The X- ray intensity calculations were carried out in order to determine the possible cation distribution amongst tetrahedral (A) and octahedral [B] sites. The X- ray intensity calculations show Cr3+ ions occupying B site. The saturation magnetization, σs, and magneton number, nB (the saturation magnetization per formula unit), measured at 300 K determined from high field hysteresis loop technique decrease with increase in concentration, x, suggesting a decrease in ferrimagnetic behaviour. Thermal variation of low field a.c. susceptibility measurements from room temperature to about 800 K exhibits almost normal ferrimagnetic behaviour and the Curie temperature, TC determined from a.c. susceptibility data decreases with increase in x.
The paper presents a computational approach and numerical data which facilitate the use of the smeared-tip method for cohesive fracture in large enough structures. In the recently developed K-version of the smeared tip method, the large-size asymptotic profile of the stress intensity factor density along a cohesive crack is considered as a material characteristic, which is uniquely related to the softening stress-displacement law of the cohesive crack. After reviewing the K-version, an accurate and efficient numerical algorithm for the computation of this asymptotic profile is presented. The algorithm is based on solving a singular Abel's integral equation. The profiles corresponding to various typical softening stress-displacement laws of the cohesive crack model are computed, tabulated and plotted. The profiles for a certain range of other typical softening laws can be approximately obtained by interpolation from the tables. Knowing the profile, one can obtain with the smeared-tip method an analytical expression for the large-size solution to fracture problems, including the first two asymptotic terms of the size effect law. Consequently, numerical solutions of the integral equations of the cohesive crack model as well as finite element simulations of the cohesive crack are made superfluous. However, when the fracture process zone is attached to a notch or to the body surface and the cohesive zone ends with a stress jump, the solution is expected to be accurate only for large-enough structures. 相似文献
Presents an obituary for Norman J. Slamecka (1928-2003). Slamecka and his wife Jan were killed suddenly in a pedestrian accident on August 2, 2003, in Lewes, Delaware. He was a Marine veteran of the Korean War, and after a few years of practice as a clinical psychologist for the Veterans Administration, he accepted a faculty position at the University of Vermont in Burlington. He then taught at the State University of New York at Buffalo for a short while before coming to the University of Toronto in 1970, where he remained until his retirement in 1994. New cubic defect pyrochlore type AxLnySb2O6+z antimoniates (0<x,y,z<1; A=Rb, Cs, Tl; Ln=Eu, Gd, and Y) (space group Fd3m) were prepared by calcination in air at 650 °C of compositions obtained by a coprecipitation method. Their crystal structures were refined by the Rietveld procedure and further confirmed by X-ray absorption spectroscopy (EXAFS) experiments. Refinements of the X-ray powder diffraction data show a partial and statistical occupation of the 8b site by alkaline or thallous ions and oxygen and lead to values close to 0.33 for the only refinable positional x parameter of the 48f oxygenated site. 相似文献
