Average-Case Analysis for a Simple Compression Algorithm

In this paper we treat the static dictionary problem , very well known in computer science. It consists in storing a set S of m elements in the range [1 . . . n ] so that membership queries on S 's elements can be handled in O(1) time. It can be approached as a table compression problem in which a size n table has m ones and the other elements are zeros. We focus our attention on sparse case (m n ). We use a simple algorithm to solve the problem and make an average-case analysis of the total space required when the input derives from uniform probability distribution. We also find some conditions able to minimize storage requirements. We then propose and analyze a new algorithm able to reduce storage requirements drastically to O(m ^4/3 ) . Rheological Behavior and Potential Cross-Linking of Pacific Whiting (Merluccius productus) Surimi Gel

Gelation behavior and potential cross-linking of Pacific whiting (Merluccius productus) surimi were affected by setting temperatures and an enzyme inhibitor. Gels of Pacific whiting surimi with salt and beef plasma protein were compared with those containing guanidine hydrochloride, sodium dodecyl sulfate, and β-mercaptoethanol. The strongest gels were formed at 25°C setting followed by 90°C heating. Hydrogen and hydrophobic bonds appeared to strongly influence gel formation, while the influence of disulfide bonds was moderate. Viscosity scanning during setting at different temperatures was also useful to estimate effects of enzymes and inhibitors.     

Effect of time limitation on making settings on a linear scale.

With 12 Ss in a cursor positioning performance setting, 4 independent variables were investigated: reduced time intervals in which to make a setting, control ratio, direction of initial cursor displacement from target, and distance of cursor travel. "When ample time is allowed to make a setting, use of a relatively fine control ratio gives maximum accuracy; with limited time, a coarser control ratio gives maximum accuracy." 介绍了流变地层中地层为非线性流变体时套管外载的计算方法及步骤。举例说明，非均匀地应力作用下的地层流变将对套管产生一个大于地应力的非均匀径向外挤力和一个非均匀的切向外载，对套管将产生极大的危害。通过改变套管、水泥环的弹性参数和几何参数可以改善套管的受力状态，这一结论对于流变地层中的套管设计具有重要指导意义。
