A novel annular reactor for kinetic studies at high temperature and flow conditions has been designed to keep eccentricity tolerances below 10%. In a previous work, we have shown that it is very important to keep such low eccentricity values in order to collect reliable kinetic data from this type of reactors. As proposed in this study, a modified reactor with the use of a spacer could guarantee an annular duct with low levels of eccentricity. Manufacturing tolerances or deformation effects giving rise to eccentricity can be significantly minimised when using this apparatus. The reactor has been both experimentally and theoretically characterised. Carbon monoxide oxidation was used as a model reaction under mass-transfer limited conditions revealing an eccentricity of ∼5%. With such small eccentricity levels, a concentric annular form can be assumed in the reactor analysis. Simple 1D or 2D models can therefore be inexpensively used in the evaluation of the kinetic data. Also, prior to the design of the annular reactor, a numerical investigation was carried out to clarify the effects of eccentricity, physical properties of the carrier gas and the annular aspect ratio on mass-transfer limitations. Contrary to expectations, a considerable increase in the fuel mass-diffusivity by carrier gas substitution did not change the mass-transfer rates for cases when eccentricity and aspect ratios were high.  相似文献

An original procedure has been established for estimating the overall volumetric mass transfer coefficient using the oxygen concentration curves resulting from the usual gassing-in and gassing-out method. This procedure was applied to experimental data obtained in a small scale bubble column using both tap water and a coalescence-inhibiting liquid mixture that represents the coalescence behavior of biological media. It is based on the analysis of the characteristics times of the system, including those of the hydrodynamics of the two phases, the sensor dynamics and the system inertia when the gas composition is modified. A numerical procedure was developed to estimate the characteristic time of the system inertia ti, using the assumption that this inertia is nearly independent of superficial gas velocity UG. The calculations confirmed that the optimized ti value was nearly independent of UG and of the coalescence behavior of the liquid phase. Additionally, the resulting KLaL values for tap water were closer to the correlation of Shah et al. [1982. Design parameters estimations for bubble column reactors. A.I.Ch.E. Journal 28, 353-379] than those of other conventional models. Finally, the original procedure was also reported to reduce significantly the square sum deviation between the predicted and the measured oxygen response curves.  相似文献

The effect of gas-liquid contacting conditions in a static mixer on ozone transfer efficiency and reduction of Bacillus subtilis spores was studied in an experimental ozone contactor. An empirical mathematical model was developed that related the transfer efficiency in the experimental system to the superficial liquid velocity in the mixer, the gas-liquid flow rate ratio and the height of the down-stream bubble column. Spore reduction was determined primarily by the dissolved ozone concentration-time (Cavgtm) product in the reactive flow segment and was independent of the gas-liquid contacting conditions in the static mixer. In an integrated ozone contacting system, the static mixer should be designed to maximize ozone mass transfer while the reactive flow segment should be designed for efficient microorganism reduction.  相似文献

An integrated process based on simultaneous solid-liquid extraction and liquid membrane separation is proposed for recovery and isolation of valuable species from botanicals. This integration provides complete exhausting of the solid material even in the case of very low solubility of the specified solute in the extracting solvent. Selectivity of the liquid membrane ensures a preferential transport of the desired solute from the native extract into the strip solution, while the other co-extracted species remain predominantly in the native extract.  相似文献

The influence of oxygen transport rate on Rhodococcus erythropolis cultures has been studied in a stirred tank bioreactor under different transport and uptake conditions. Oxygen uptake rate has been measured by applying a modified dynamic method and a kinetic model is proposed, obtaining the kinetic parameter values: specific maintenance and yield coefficients. The volumetric mass transfer coefficients under inert conditions, kLa, and during the bioprocess, KLa, have been determined. The values obtained are different and a biological enhancement factor E, has been considered. These parameters have been predicted by the theoretical model and good agreement with experimental data under the conditions studied has been found. The oxygen limitation has been expressed by a modified dimensionless Damköhler number, Da, the relationship between transport and biological reaction rates. This number decreases with increasing stirrer speed; that is, when mass transport resistance decreases. The efficiency of oxygen utilization can be determined by a film effectiveness factor, η. The effectiveness factor was found to be a strong function of Damköhler number and decrease with increasing Da. Furthermore, oxygen concentration into culture depends on the mass transfer and consumption rates. The theoretical model proposed is able to reasonably predict the evolution of dissolved oxygen concentration with time of cultivation.  相似文献
