Extensive growth in functional brain imaging, perfusion-weighted imaging, diffusion-weighted imaging, brain mapping and brain
scanning techniques has led tremendously to the importance of cerebral cortical segmentation both in 2-D and 3-D from volumetric
brain magnetic resonance imaging data sets. Besides that, recent growth in deformable brain segmentation techniques in 2-D
and 3-D has brought the engineering community, such as the areas of computer vision, image processing, pattern recognition
and graphics, closer to the medical community, such as to neuro-surgeons, psychiatrists, oncologists, neuro-radiologists and
internists. In Part I of this research (see Suri et al [1]), an attempt was made to review the state-of-the-art in 2-D and
3-D cerebral cortical segmentation techniques from brain magnetic resonance imaging based on two main classes: region- and
boundary/surface-based. More than 18 different techniques for segmenting the cerebral cortex from brain slices acquired in
orthogonal directions were shown using region-based techniques. We also showed more than ten different techniques to segment
the cerebral cortex from magnetic resonance brain volumes using boundary/surface-based techniques. This paper (Part II) focuses
on presenting state-of-the-art systems based on the fusion of boundary/surface-based with region-based techniques, also called
regional-geometric deformation models, which takes the paradigm of partial differential equations in the level set framework.
We also discuss the pros and cons of these various techniques, besides giving the mathematical foundations for each sub-class
in the cortical taxonomy. Special emphasis is placed on discussing the advantages, validation, challenges and neuro-science/clinical
applications of cortical segmentation.

This Panel was set up by the Fusion Energy Sciences Advisory Committee (FESAC) at its November 2000 meeting for the purpose of addressing questions from the Department of Energy concerning the theory and computing/simulation program of the Office of Fusion Energy Sciences. Although the Panel primarily addressed programmatic questions, it acknowledges that the theory and computing in fusion energy sciences has a stellar record of research successes. (A recent FESAC report entitled Opportunities in the Fusion Energy Sciences Program listed a number of theory and computing research highlights.) Last year the National Research Council performed an assessment of the quality of the fusion energy sciences program—including theory and computing—and concluded that the quality of its research is on a par with that of other leading areas of contemporary physical science. 相似文献

This study presents the effects of mixture fractions of nuclear fuels (mixture of fissile–fertile fuels and mixture of two different fertile fuels) and 6Li enrichment on the neutronic parameters (the tritium breeding ratio, TBR, the fission rate, FR, the energy multiplication ratio, M, the fissile breeding rate, FBR, the neutron leakage out of blanket, L, and the peak-to-average fission power density ratio, Γ) of a deuterium–tritium (D–T) fusion neutron-driven hybrid blanket. Three different fertile fuels (232Th, 238U and 244Cm), and one fissile fuel (235U) were selected as the nuclear fuel. Two different coolants (pressurized helium and natural lithium) were used for the nuclear heat transfer out of the fuel zone (FZ). The Boltzmann transport equation was solved numerically for obtaining the neutronic parameters with the help of the neutron transport code XSDRNPM/SCALE4.4a. In addition, these calculations were performed by also using the MCNP4B code. The sub-limits of the mixture fractions and 6Li enrichment were determined for the tritium self-sufficiency. The considered hybrid reactor can be operated in a self-sufficiency mode in the cases with the fuel mixtures mixed with a fraction of equal to or greater than these sub-limits. Furthermore, the numerical results show that the fissile fuel breeding and fission potentials of the blankets with the helium coolant are higher than with the lithium coolant. 相似文献

Significant amounts of nuclear wastes consisting of plutonium, minor actinides and long lived fission products are produced during the operation of commercial nuclear power plants. Therefore, the destruction of these wastes is very important with respect to public health, environment and also the future of nuclear energy. In this study, transmutation of minor actinides (MAs) discharged from LMFBR spent fuel in a high power density fusion reactor has been investigated under a neutron wall load of 10 MW/m2 for an operation period of 10 years. Also, the effect of MA percentage on the transmutation has been examined. The fuel zone, containing MAs as spheres cladded with W-5Re, has been located behind the first wall to utilize the high neutron flux for transmutation effectively. Helium at 40 atm has been used as an energy carrier. At the end of the operation period, the total burning and transmutation are greater than the total buildups in all investigated cases, and very high burnups (420–470 GWd/tHM) are reached, depending on the MA content. The total transmutation rate values are 906 and 979 kg/GWth year at startup and decrease to 140 and 178 kg/GWth year at the end of the operation for fuel with 10% and 20% MA, respectively. Over an operation period of 10 years, the effective half lives decrease from 2.38, 2.21 and 3.08 years to 1.95, 1.80 and 2.59 years for 237Np, 241Am and 243Am, respectively. Total atomic densities decrease exponentially during the operation period. The reductions in the total atomic densities with respect to the initial ones are 79%, 81%, 82%, 83%, 85% and 86% for 10%, 12%, 14%, 16%, 18% and 20% MAs, respectively. 相似文献

This is the final report of a panel set up by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Fusion Energy Sciences Advisory Committee (FESAC) in response to a charge letter from Dr. Ray Orbach (Appendix A). In that letter, Dr. Orbach asked FESAC for an assessment of the present status of inertial fusion energy (IFE) research carried out in contributing programs. These programs include the heavy ion (HI) beam, the high average power laser (HAPL), and Z-Pinch drivers and associated technologies, including fast ignition (FI). In a commercial (DT) driven fusion reactor, the tritium breeding ratio per incident fusion neutron must be greater than 1.05 to maintain tritium self-sufficiency for the driver. In this study tritium breeding capability of three different coolants, namely Flibe (LiF·BeF2), Flinabe (LiF·NaF·BeF2), and Li20Sn80 in a (DT) driven fusion-fission (hybrid) reactor was investigated for different refractory alloys (W-5Re, TZM, T111, and Nb-1Zr) as structural material. Neutron transport calculations were conducted with the help of SCALE 4.3 SYSTEM by solving the Boltzmann transport equation with code XSDRNPM. The contribution of Flibe, Flinabe, and Li20Sn80 with respect to 6Li enrichment in their lithium content to overall TBR was investigated. 土壤盐渍化严重威胁着干旱区绿洲的稳定与可持续发展,因此借助遥感手段快速提取盐渍地信息并掌握其空间分布有着重要的现实意义。本文以渭干河-库车河三角洲绿洲为例,探讨了基于主成分融合的干旱区盐渍地信息的提取方法。由于Landsat-7 ETM 的全色波段与多光谱波段有相同的太阳高度角和其他环境条件,影像获取时间一致,两种不同分辨率的数据可以不经配准而实现高精度融合。首先,对2001年的遥感影像数据(ETM影像)进行几何校正;再利用主成分融合技术,将多波段的ETM 影像与对应的全色波段影像进行主成分融合,在此基础上进行盐渍地信息的提取。实验表明,该方法的结果分类精度较高,与实地调查结果基本相符,是监测干旱区盐渍地变化的有效手段。结果表明:盐渍地主要分布在绿洲的和沙漠之间的交错带,盐渍地的分布在绿洲内部呈条形状分布,而在绿洲外部呈片状分布,且绿洲外部重度盐渍地交错分布在中轻度盐渍地中。研究结果对于干旱区绿洲盐渍地的合理开发和可持续发展有着重要现实意义。 相似文献

A new narrow-gap welding process is proposed by applying triple-wire gas indirect arc (TW-GIA). There are double power supplies and triple wires in this system. Power supplies are only connected between electrode wires and base materials are not linked to power supplies. Since there are different wire arrangements with TW-GIA, this article studies these wire arrangements and their effects on sidewall fusion for narrow-gap welding. Results show that different wire arrangements lead to variant arc behaviors and metal transfer, and consequently they lead to different situation of sidewall fusion. The heat to melt sidewalls is mainly from the indirect arc column and metal transfer with narrow-gap TW-GIA. When side wires deviate from the main wire to opposite directions, heat from arc columns and metal transfer can concentrate toward groove sidewalls. When the whole weld torch is lowered, heat from the indirect arc column and metal transfer increases at the weld bead root. 相似文献
