Poly(vinyl chloride)/wood fiber (flour) composites are currently experiencing a dramatic increase in use. Most of them are used to produce window/door profiles, decking, railing, and siding by using conical counterrotating intermeshing twin‐screw extruders. Heat stabilizers, processing aids, impact modifiers, lubricants, and pigments are still important for PVC/wood composite formulations. Poly[methylene(polyphenyl isocyanate)] (PMPPIC), γ‐aminopropyltriethoxysilane, maleated polypropylene (MAPP), and copper metallic complex have proved to be effective coupling agents for this composite system. Mechanical properties of PVC/wood composites can be enhanced by combining wood with mica or glass fibers to form hybrid reinforcements. Ultraviolet light resistance and weathering dimensional stabilities of PVC/wood composites are superior to those of natural wood. Density reduction can be achieved through the microcellular foaming technique by using chemical blowing agents, such as azodicarbonamide and sodium bicarbonate, or physical blowing agents, such as carbon dioxide. The potential of certain Auger electron emitting nuclides for systemic radiotherapeutic applications has recently gained much attention. In particular, the ability of several nuclides, including 111In, 125I, and 123I, to induce DNA double-strand breaks (dsb), a good indicator of cytotoxicity, has been extensively studied. However, this ability has never previously been shown experimentally for 99mTc, which, besides the well-known gamma radiation that is used for diagnostic applications, also emits an average of 1.1 conversion electrons and 4 Auger or Coster-Kronig electrons per decay. Owing to the short range of Auger electrons, the radionuclide needs to be located very close to the DNA for dsb to occur. We synthesized two cationic 99mTcI-tricarbonyl complexes with pendant DNA binders, pyrene and anthraquinone. The X-ray crystal structures of the two complexes could be elucidated. Linear dichroism and UV/Vis spectroscopy revealed that the complex with pyrene intercalates DNA with a stability constant, K, of 1.1 x 10(6) M(-1), while the analogous complex with anthraquinone interacts with DNA in a groove-binding mode and has an affinity value of K=8.9 x 10(4) M(-1). We showed with phiX174 double-stranded DNA that the corresponding 99mTc complexes induce a significant amount of dsb, whereas non-DNA-binding [TcO4]- and nonradioactive Re compounds did not. These results indicate that the Auger electron emitter 99mTc can induce dsb in DNA when decaying in its direct vicinity and this implies potential for systemic radiotherapy with 99mTc complexes. 相似文献

Now that the human genome has been decoded, the demand for novel therapeutic concepts, such as gene and stem cell therapy, is higher than ever before. Although new and better pharmaceutical agents are available, their efficient delivery to the intracellular site of action is still a serious challenge. A possible solution to this problem is the use of cell-penetrating peptides as delivery vectors, including derivatives of human calcitonin (hCT). The aim of this study was to synthesise novel branched hCT-derived peptides for the noncovalent delivery of nucleic acids. The uptake of the resulting oligocationic peptides into various cell lines as well as primary cells was monitored by fluorescence microscopy. To determine the appropriate peptide-plasmid charge ratios for efficient cell transfection, electromobility shift assays were carried out. Finally, flow cytometric and fluorescence microscopic studies of gene expression highlighted two novel hCT-derived peptides as highly effective in the delivery of noncovalently complexed plasmid DNA. Thus, the absence of cytotoxicity paired with highly efficient cell internalisation and transfection rates, in primary cells as well, make both peptides powerful candidates as drug delivery vectors, especially for plasmid DNA, for both in vivo and ex vivo therapeutic applications. 相似文献

Two evolutionary algorithms - the genetic algorithm and the evolution strategy - are compared in respect of mechanical design problems. Mechanical design problems are real world problems, characterized by a number of inequality constraints, nonlinear equations, mixed discrete-continuous variables and the presence of interdependent discrete parameters whose values are taken from standardized tables. The selection, recombination and mutation operators, and the chosen constraint-handling method are presented for both the genetic algorithm and the evolution strategy. In order to find the best combination of operators for each algorithm which will solve mechanical design problems, a number of selection and recombination operators are compared in respect of these problems. A comparison of these two algorithms with regard to three mechanical design problems extends the results of comparisons presented in the literature for unimodal and multimodal test functions with continuous variables only, and without constraints. 相似文献

The use of thermoset composites has increased remarkably during the recent past in naval, automobile and aeronautical applications. Despite superior mechanical behaviour, certain problems, e.g. shape distortion, fibre buckling and matrix cracking, are induced in composite part, especially during fabrication due to the heterogeneous nature of such materials. Excellent control of the curing process is required for production of a composite part with required shape and properties. For an accurate simulation of the curing process, exact knowledge of cure-dependent polymer properties and heat transfer is needed. Several instruments are required to identify these parameters, which is time consuming, and costly. In the present study, results on the simultaneous characterization of bulk modulus, chemical shrinkage and degree of cure of vinylester resin using PVT-α device are presented. Determination of cure and temperature-dependent thermal conductivity of the matrix using the same device is also discussed. Little is known about the influence of abiotic factors such as climate and soil chemistry on the survival of Escherichia coli O157:H7 in field lettuce. We applied a nalidixic acid-resistant derivative of strain ATCC 700728 to field-grown romaine lettuce in two regions in Canada characterized by large variances in soil type and climate. Surviving populations in soil and on lettuce leaves were estimated on sorbitol MacConkey agar supplemented with nalidixic acid. Data were fitted with the Weibull decline function to permit comparison of decay rates in the two experimental sites. E. coli O157:H7 populations fell from 10? to <102 CFU/g on leaves, and <103 CFU/g in soil within 7 days after inoculation. Analysis revealed there was no significant difference between decay rates at the two experimental sites in either environment. The results of this study suggest that the inherent ecological fitness of E. coli O157:H7 ATCC 700728 determines the extent of survival in the production environment. 相似文献

Visualization is often invaluable to understand the behavior of optimization algorithms, identify their bottlenecks or pathological
behaviors, and suggest remedial techniques. Yet developing visualizations is often a tedious activity requiring significant
time and expertise. This paper presents a framework for the visualization of constraint-based local search (CBLS) algorithms.
Given a high-level model and a declarative visualization specification, the CBLS visualizer systematically produces animations
to visualize constraints and objectives, violations, and conflicts, as well as the temporal behavior of these measures. The
visualization specification is declarative and typically composed of a triple (what,where,how) indicating what to display, where, and with which graphical objects. The visualizer architecture is compositional and extensible.
It provides building blocks which can be assembled freely by the user and focuses almost exclusively on static aspects, the
dynamic aspects being automated by the use of invariants. The paper highlights various functionalities of the visualizer and

In this paper we aim at extending the non-derivable condensed representation in frequent itemset mining to sequential pattern mining. We start by showing a negative example: in the context of frequent sequences, the notion of non-derivability is meaningless. Therefore, we extend our focus to the mining of conjunctions of sequences. Besides of being of practical importance, this class of patterns has some nice theoretical properties. Based on a new unexploited theoretical definition of equivalence classes for sequential patterns, we are able to extend the notion of a non-derivable itemset to the sequence domain. We present a new depth-first approach to mine non-derivable conjunctive sequential patterns and show its use in mining association rules for sequences. This approach is based on a well known combinatorial theorem: the Möbius inversion. A performance study using both synthetic and real datasets illustrates the efficiency of our mining algorithm. These new introduced patterns have a high-potential for real-life applications, especially for network monitoring and biomedical fields with the ability to get sequential association rules with all the classical statistical metrics such as confidence, conviction, lift etc. 相似文献
