Discoveries of room‐temperature ferromagnetism (RTFM) in semiconductors hold great promise in future spintronics technologies. Unfortunately, this ferromagnetism remains poorly understood and the debate concerning the nature, carrier‐mediated versus defect‐mediated, of this ferromagnetism in semiconducting oxides is still open. Here, by using X‐ray absorption (XAS) and X‐ray magnetic circular dichroism (XMCD), it is demonstrated that the oxygen ions have a ferromagnetic response in different ZnO‐based compounds showing RTFM behavior: ZnO nanoparticles capped with organic molecules and ZnO/ZnS heterostructures. These results demonstrate the intrinsic occurrence of RTFM in these systems, and point out that it is not related to the metallic cation but it relays on the conduction band of the semiconductor. 相似文献

New institutions are coming to the fore as stakeholders in research, particularly hospitals and clinical departments involved in providing health care. As a result, new environments for research are gaining importance. This study aims to investigate how different individual characteristics, together with collective and contextual factors, affect the activity and performance of researchers in the particular setting of hospitals and research centres affiliated with the Spanish National Health System (NHS). We used a combination of quantitative science indicators and perception-based data obtained through a survey of researchers working at NHS hospitals and research centres. Inbreeding and involvement in clinical research is the combination of factors with the greatest influence on scientific productivity, because these factors are associated with increased scientific output both overall as well as in high-impact journals. Ultimately, however, satisfaction with human resources in research group combined with gender (linked in turn to leadership) is the combination of factors associated most clearly with the most relevant indicator of productivity success, i.e. the number of articles in high-impact journals as principal author. Researchers’ competitiveness in obtaining research funding as principal investigator is associated with a combination of satisfaction with research autonomy and involvement in clinical research. Researchers’ success is not significantly related with their age, seniority and international experience. The way health care institutions manage and combine the factors likely to influence research may be critical for the development and maintenance of research-conducive environments, and ultimately for the success of research carried out in hospitals and other settings within the national public health system. 相似文献

In the present work, we studied the photon down‐conversion effect produced by thin films of silicon oxide with embedded silicon nanocrystals also called silicon‐rich oxide (SRO). These films have been used to absorb high energy light and the re‐emission of two or more low energy photons (~1.1 eV) with the goal of improving the external quantum efficiency and consequently the conversion efficiency of silicon solar cells. According to our results, the incorporation of a thin SRO film on the solar cell surface increases the short circuit current and the FF of the silicon solar cells; the enhancement of spectral response is due to the high photoluminescence intensity of the SRO in the visible region when irradiated with UV light. An improvement of 38% in the solar cell efficiency has been observed in our particular solar cell fabrication process by the use of an SRO film with high photoluminescence intensity, which replaces the conventional silicon dioxide film. Measurement of research activity still remains a controversial question. The use of the impact factor from the Institute for
Scientific Information (ISI) is quite widespread nowadays to carry out evaluations of all kinds; however, the calculation
formula employed by ISI in order to construct its impact factors biases the results in favour of knowledge fields which are
better represented in the sample, cite more in average and whose citations are concentrated in the early years of the articles.
In the present work, we put forward a theoretical proposal regarding how aggregated normalization should be carried out with
these biases, which allows comparing scientific production between fields, institutions and/or authors in a neutral manner.
The technical complexity of such work, together with data limitations, lead us to propose some adjustments on the impact factor
proposed by ISI which — although they do not completely solve the problem — reduce it and allow glimpsing the path towards
more neutral evaluations. The proposal is empirically applied to three analysis levels: single journals, knowledge fields

This paper addresses the estimation of specific growth rate and substrate concentration from biomass measurements in fermentation processes. Specifically, sliding-mode observers are proposed, for which finite-time global convergence is demonstrated using Lyapunov stability theory and concepts of variable structure systems. Two observers are developed for specific growth rate estimation, one producing a discontinuous estimation which is used afterwards for substrate estimation, and the other one – based on high-gain observers – that generates a smooth estimation with first-order dynamics and finite-time bounded convergence error. In the case of substrate estimation, an observer that increases the convergence rate to a vicinity of the real substrate concentration while achieving asymptotic convergence despite kinetic model uncertainties in properly excited processes is designed. In this study, we have developed a rapid method for the simultaneous detection of Listeria monocytogenes and Salmonella spp. in foods, combining culture enrichment and a multiplex real-time polymerase chain reaction (PCR). The assay used two
pre-existing primer-probe sets, labelled with different reporter dyes to enable the direct distinction of the original contaminating
agent. Amplification efficiency and inclusivity/exclusivity of the combined assay was successfully assessed. The overall process
included the culture enrichment based on the ISO standard, consisting of 24 h incubation in appropriate media (Half Fraser
Broth for Listeria and buffered peptone water (BPW) for Salmonella), followed by a single DNA extraction of mixed enrichment aliquots, and real-time PCR detection of the hly and bipA genes of L. monocytogenes and Salmonella spp., respectively. An internal amplification control, co-amplified during the PCR run, was included in the assay to verify
the results. The tool was evaluated with a variety of artificially inoculated samples of fresh products and ready to eat and
cooked dishes, allowing the identification of the target pathogens down to 5 CFU/25 g of food sample. Moreover, the analysis
saved a considerable amount of time compared to the ISO standard, being performed in less than 2 working days. Specificity,
sensitivity and accuracy were satisfactorily tested by comparison to the standard methods ISO 11290-2:1998 and ISO 6579:2002,
suggesting that the tool has a great potential as a reliable alternative for food safety assurance providing rapid detection

Butter and other milk fat‐based products are valuable products for the dairy industry due to their unique taste, their textural characteristics, and nutritional value. However, an increased consumer demand for low‐fat‐based products increases the need for an increased essential understanding of the effective factors governing the structure of milk fat‐based products. Today, 2 manufacturing techniques are available: the churning method and the emulsification method. The first is typically used for production of butter with a globular structure, which has become increasingly popular to obtain low‐fat‐based products, typically without presence of milk fat globules. The microstructure of milk fat‐based products is strongly related to their structural rheology, hence applications. Structural behavior is not determined by one single parameter, but by the interactions between many. This complexity is reviewed here. Parameters such as thermal treatment of cream prior to butter making, water content, and chemical composition influence not only crystal polymorphism, but also the number and sizes of fat crystals. The number of crystal–crystal interactions formed within the products is related to product hardness. During storage, however, postcrystallization increases the solid fat content and strengthens the fat crystal network. The fat crystal network is strengthened by the formation of more and stronger crystal–crystal interactions due to mechanically interlinking of fat crystals, which occurs during crystal growth. Postcrystallization is directly linked to chemical composition. The initially observed microstructural difference causing different rheological behavior will disappear during storage due to postcrystallization and formation of more crystal–crystal interactions. 相似文献
