Design and development of smart electricity meter – the path towards sustainable globe

Reducing energy demand in the domestic segment is an important problem worldwide. This study focused on the awareness of residents on energy conservation and on the potential of reducing energy demand through energy-saving activities. The following observations were noted down during the experiment of smart meter in 10 houses of Mumbai city. (1) Its installation led to a reduction in power consumption, (2) a change in energy-saving behaviours of the household members such as the reduction of standby power and a better control of appliance operation, and (3) energy-conservation awareness affected not only the power consumption of the appliances explicitly shown on the display monitor but also other household appliances. (4) Development of sustainable environmental system.

规划师的职业实践和社会角色决定了规划伦理意识培养是城乡规划教育的核心内容之一。针对国内城乡规划专业教育中尚未形成完整的伦理意识教育体系,文章借鉴国外规划伦理意识教育的成功经验,研究中国城乡规划专业教育伦理意识培养的主要途径:加强规划教育伦理课程体系建设、重视规划伦理案例库建设、强化产学研结合、创新规划伦理教学模式、加强规划专业教师的培训。     

基础化学实验中培养提高学生安全意识的探索

化学实验室安全是高校安全工作的重要组成部分,基础化学实验中学生安全意识的培养和提高是校园安全的保障。该文在现有基础化学实验教学基础上,寻求提高学生安全意识的教学和管理方法,并在实验教学中增加化学实验室安全课程、完善实验室准入制度、引导学生学习使用MSDS养成良好的实验习惯、增加安全操作奖惩评分机制等方面进行了探讨。

环保非政府组织(环保NGO)作为环境保护和治理的"第三方力量",需要公众的认可和广泛参与。本研究以问卷调查的方式深入调研了常州市主城区居民对环保NGO的认知度、关注度与参与倾向,分析了公众对环保NGO认知度和关注度的影响因素,并从宣传教育、自身发展和体制管理等方面给出了提高公众环保NGO认知度的建议和策略。     

浅析煤化工企业安全管理

通过对当前煤化工企业所面临的安全生产问题进行解析,提出了煤化工企业安全管理的几点建议,通过加强安全生产责任制建设,提高企业员工安全意识,定期开展全面的安全隐患排查,建立具有专业素质与水准的应急救援组织,切实提高广大员工的应急救援水平以及做好外协保运队伍安全管理工作,来避免发生安全事故,进而减少由事故所引发的人员伤亡和环境污染事故。     

Being aware: where we think the action is

The term awareness has become one of the core concepts in human (computer-) interaction. By awareness we usually try to describe a human’s capability of perception and the cognitive effort related to an apperception task as well as similar abilities of a computer system to act sensitively with respect to context. But what does it mean to be aware in or of some context? Are not all things assembled in a system affected by being in that system—being aware of it or not? What does it take to be aware and what are the consequences of being not aware? This article discusses recent paradigms of computer science in the context of philosophy of mind, psychology of perception and sociology to shed light on awareness, context, perception and affection. The conclusion that is drawn is that any observation is inherently predetermined by our model of the world: the meaning of data we collect is determined by the model assumptions under which the observer is running.

CoWSAMI: Interface-aware context gathering in ambient intelligence environments

In this paper we present CoWSAMI, a middleware infrastructure that enables context awareness in open ambient intelligence environments, consisting of mobile users and context sources that become dynamically available as the users move from one location to another. A central requirement in such dynamic scenarios is to be able to integrate new context sources and users at run-time. CoWSAMI exploits a novel approach towards this goal. The proposed approach is based on utilizing Web services as interfaces to context sources and dynamically updatable relational views for storing, aggregating and interpreting context. Context rules are employed to provide mappings that specify how to populate context relations, with respect to the different context sources that become dynamically available. An underlying context sources discovery mechanism is utilized to maintain context information up to date as context sources, and users get dynamically involved.
