The challenge associated with large-scale hydrogen storage is a pertinent one to achieve a hydrogen economy. The increasing global demand for clean and green energy is the driving force to propel such an economy. Furthermore, hydrogen is also considered an alternative energy source compared to fossil fuel as a clean energy alternative. Hydrogen geo-storage in a deep saline aquifer, depleted oil and gas reservoirs can resolve this challenge. We assess the potential of a saline aquifer in a sandstone formation to store hydrogen through first-of-its-kind x-ray micro-computed tomography miniature coreflood experiments. The investigation shows that ~65% of the sandstone's pore volume can be occupied by hydrogen when injected at a slow rate. Residual saturation of hydrogen upon brine injection can be ~41%. 相似文献

为研究矿山酸性水(Ac id M ine D rainage,AMD)对矿山边坡的破坏作用,在不同时间步长条件下,用pH=1.07,3.26的两种H2SO4溶液蚀化砂岩,然后对蚀化的砂岩试样进行抗压试验和细观结构观察。试验结果表明,在AMD作用后,砂岩的单轴抗压强度降低幅值达30%~50%,弹性模量降低25%~45%,粘聚力和内摩擦角降低,泊松比在0.20~0.29范围内波动。节理越发育,试件过峰后的残余应力值越大,破坏时间越长。细观研究表明,AMD作用后,砂岩中的Fe、A l等金属元素被稀释、溶解,质量百分比大幅下降。机理分析表明,AMD作用过程中,砂岩内节理和裂隙间的充填物频繁发生分解和聚合反应,改变岩体内部分子结构和骨架组成,降低岩体层面间的粘聚力和内摩擦角。 相似文献

Following a monitoring programme of private shallow boreholes a total of 22 different pesticides were detected in 14 shallow boreholes in the Triassic Sherwood Sandstone aquifer of south Yorkshire, UK between January 2002 and November 2003. Of the 294 positive detections made, 34% were detected in excess of the permitted concentration value (PCV) (drinking water standard) for individual pesticides. Pesticides were detected in 11 (78%) of the boreholes, and in eight (57%) at concentrations exceeding the PCV on at least one occasion. These findings were complemented by data from deeper boreholes in which concentrations exceeding the PCV were also detected. Pesticide occurrence could be related to landuse; mecoprop and isoproturon were frequently detected at several locations reflecting the arable landuse, dicamba at a golf course, and atrazine, propazine and terbutryn near a railway. Temporal variations have emerged at individual sites and across the study area as the result of extended and frequent monitoring. 相似文献

Conservation of historical buildings is an important issue. The environmental conditions seriously affect the monumental stones. Although different coating materials were tested, the polymeric materials have been showing the most promising results for protection of archeological stones. Therefore, in the current study, the acrylic polymer was used for conservation of monuments made of sandstone and limestone. The adsorption of the acrylic polymer onto both stones was analyzed and the durability of the coatings under different environmental conditions was tested and simulated by artificial aging. Moreover, the mechanism of polymer-stone interactions was elucidated by interfacial characterization techniques.The results showed that the adsorption of polymer onto either stones is physical as shown by Fourier transform infra-red (FTIR) and electrokinetic measurements. In addition, the presence of polymer coating shows a significant improvement in physical and mechanical properties of the treated stones, e.g., increase in bulk density from 1.9 to 2.3 g/cm3 and decrease in porosity from 15.8% to 2.7% as well as the noticeable increase in compressive strength.
