The paper is a response to the argument presented by Jussi Karlgren that the term sublanguage involves a potentially damaging misunderstanding in human-computer interaction research. The use of the term in the context of a mathematical concept of language as a set is defended. The definition of language in terms of probability and the use of domain context to condition probabilities is suggested as a refinement to this concept.  相似文献

This paper develops an abstract theory for mathematical morphology on complete lattices. It differs from previous work in this direction in the sense that it does not merely assume the existence of a binary operation on the underlying lattice. Rather, the starting point is the recognition of the fact that, in general, objects are only known through information resulting from a given collection of measurements, called evaluations. Such an abstract approach leads in a natural way to the concept of convolution lattice, where convolution has to be understood in the sense of an abstract Minkowski addition. The paper contains various examples. Two applications are treated in great detail, the morphological slope transform and random set theory.  相似文献

The infimal convolution operation arises in mathematical economics in the analysis of several problems. In this paper we first present a survey and summarize two previous papers by the authors on the classic firm's cost-minimization problem. Synthesis of normal or controllable and normal sublanguages of global specification languages without computation of the global modular plant is a difficult problem. In this paper, these sublanguages are computed using a coordinator. We recall the notion of conditional controllability, introduce a notion of conditional normality, and prove necessary and sufficient conditions where such a computation is possible. Specifically, we show that conditionally controllable and conditionally normal languages computed by our method are controllable and normal with respect to the global plant. The optimality (supremality) of the resulting languages is also discussed.  相似文献

Let us assume there exist several expert systems using different inference machines, working in parallel on the decision making problem from the same area and supplying for a given object (patient) probabilities of different diagnoses. The global results'(i.e. number of errors) on some sample data set of patients determine which of die machines is the best one. Is it possible, using the results (i.e. probabilities of diagnoses for the given patient) of the other machines, to improve decision power of the best machine? A method, the supremal inference machine or algorithm, is introduced attempting to combine different inference machines with the help of the random variable “error content in decision” whose density is constructed for different measures of certainty. Experimental results on a case study from the area of rheumatology are given.  相似文献

This paper, accompanied by peer group commentary and author's response, is a discussion paper concerning the state of the art in Machine Translation. The current orthodoxy is first summarized, then criticized. A number of research projects based on the standard architecture are discussed: they involve the use of Artificial Intelligence techniques, advanced linguistic theories, and sublanguage. Alternative approaches discussed are systems which develop or update their grammars semi-automatically, dialogue MT, and corpus-based MT including example-based and statistical approaches.  相似文献
