This paper reports the overall fabrication process of microstructured polymer optical fibres (mPOFs). mPOF fabrication involves a two‐step process: on the one hand, the design and creation of a preform containing a large‐scale version of the desired fibre and, on the other, the precise heating and drawing of the preform to the final fibre. The preforms are produced either by an improved drilling technique or by capillary stacking. For a correct and accurate drawing of the fibre, a controlled and precise heating unit has to be designed, an issue that will be explained in detail in this work. The quality and optical performance of the final mPOF depends strongly on key factors such as the preform annealing, the accuracy of the technique selected for the creation of the preform structure, the heating stage, as well as on the drawing parameters. All of them are analysed in detail and some drawn mPOFs of interest are reported as well. © 2018 Society of Chemical Industry  相似文献

The dichotomy between hormone recognition by the ectodomain and activation of the G protein by the rhodopsin-like serpentine portion is a well established property of glycoprotein hormone receptors. The specificity barrier avoiding promiscuous activation of the FSH receptor by the high concentration of human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) prevailing during human pregnancy was thus believed to lie in the ectodomain. In the past two years, mutations responsible for rare spontaneous cases of ovarian hyperstimulation syndromes have partially modified this simple view. Five naturally occurring mutations have been identified which cause an increase in the sensitivity of the FSH receptor to hCG. Surprisingly, these mutations are all located in the serpentine portion of the receptor. In addition to their effect on sensitivity to hCG, they increase sensitivity of the FSH receptor to TSH, and are responsible for activating the receptor constitutively. Together, the available information indicates that the ectodomain and the serpentine domain of the FSH receptor each contribute to the specificity barrier preventing its spurious activation by hCG. While the former is responsible for establishment of binding specificity, the latter introduces a novel notion of functional specificity.Recent data demonstrate that LH and FSH receptors can constitute functional homo- and heterodimers. This suggests the possibility that in cells co-expressing the two receptors, such as granulosa cells, the heterodimers might be endowed with functional characteristics different from those of each homodimer.  相似文献

One of the most important processes in the aeronautical sector is drilling. The main problem associated with drilling is burr. There is a tolerance level for this burr and it cannot exceed 127 microns, which would provoke structural damage and other problems. Currently, the burr elimination task is carried out visually and manually with the aim of guaranteeing quality in the process. However, it is an expensive procedure and needs to be replaced by a motorized system capable of automatically detecting in which holes the burr exceeds the permitted level and has to be eliminated or reduced. The paper presents a burr prediction model for high speed drilling in dry conditions on aluminium (Al 7075-T6), based on a Bayesian network learned from a set of experiments based on parameters taken from the internal signal of the machine and parameters from the condition process. The paper shows the efficiency and validity of the model in the prediction of the apparition of burr during the drilling and compares the results with other data-mining techniques.  相似文献

A series of new poly(1-vinyl-3-alkylimidazolium) iodide polymers with different alkyl derivatives such as methyl, propyl and perflurodecyl have been synthesized. The alkyl substituent influenced some properties such as solubility, thermal stability, glass transition and crystallinity of the polymers. For instance, polymer having the propyl substituent was soluble in solvents of intermediate polarity such as acetonitrile, chloroform and THF, the one with the methyl substituent was only soluble in very polar solvents such as water and methanol and the fluorinated polymer was only soluble in DMF. The alkyl substituent also influenced the thermal stability in the order methyl > propyl > perflurodecyl and all the polymers thermally decomposed between 250 and 400 °C in nitrogen. The poly(1-vinyl-3-alkyl-imidazolium) iodide polymers having propyl and methyl substituents were amorphous polymers showing a glass transition temperature of 43 and 21 °C, respectively; and perflurodecyl polymers were semi-crystalline with a Tm at 153 °C and a Tg at 20 °C, as indicated by differential scanning calorimetry.Polymer electrolytes were formulated as mixtures of the ionic liquid 1-methyl-3-propylimidazolium iodide and the poly(1-vinyl-3-alkylimidazolium) iodide polymers. These polymer electrolytes showed ionic conductivities in the range of 10−3 to 10−7 S/cm at room temperature which strongly depended on the ionic liquid content. Finally, poly(1-vinyl-3-propyl-imidazolium) iodide was used to obtain gel electrolytes by adding it to a typical acetonitrile electrolyte used in dye sensitized solar cells (DSSCs). Solar cells with 1 cm2 area prepared using the polymer gel electrolyte yielded a maximum light-to-electricity conversion efficiency of 3.73%.  相似文献

The increase in strength of new high strength steels (HHS) and advanced high strength steels (AHHS) has led to forming issues, such as high springback, low formability, increase of forming forces and tool wear. These problems increase thecosts of manufacturing and maintaining stamping tools in the automotive industry. The aim of this research was to analyse the advantages of applying the press- hardening process toconventional HSS and AHSS steel to increase their formability and therefore reduce the number of forming steps and productioncosts. With this aim in mind, the press-hardening process was used to manufacture an industrialcomponent using four different automotive steel grades: dual phase (DP),complex phase (CP), transformation- induced plasticity (TRIP) and martensitic (MS) grade. Springback measurements werecarried out, together with an analysis of the obtained final mechanical properties and microstructures. The results showed that the formability of all the materials increased. The mechanical properties of theCP800 and TRIP700 materials were maintained or even improved, whereas those of the MS1200 and HCT980X materials were significantly reduced. Weconclude that press hardening is a suitable manufacturing process forCP800 and TRIP700components.  相似文献

Semantic interpretation of language requires extensive and rich lexical knowledge bases (LKB). The Basque WordNet is a LKB based on WordNet and its multilingual counterparts EuroWordNet and the Multilingual Central Repository. This paper reviews the theoretical and practical aspects of the Basque WordNet lexical knowledge base, as well as the steps and methodology followed in its construction. Our methodology is based on the joint development of wordnets and annotated corpora. The Basque WordNet contains 32,456 synsets and 26,565 lemmas, and is complemented by a hand-tagged corpus comprising 59,968 annotations.  相似文献

A microwave (MW)‐assisted crosslinking process to prepare hydrogel‐forming microneedle (MN) arrays was evaluated. Conventionally, such MN arrays are prepared using processes that includes a thermal crosslinking step. Polymeric MN arrays were prepared using poly(methyl vinyl ether‐alt‐maleic acid) crosslinked by reaction with poly(ethylene glycol) over 24 h at 80 °C. Polymeric MN arrays were prepared to compare conventional process with the novel MW‐assisted crosslinking method. Infrared spectroscopy was used to evaluate the crosslinking degree, evaluating the area of the carbonyl peaks (2000–1500 cm?1). It was shown that, by using the MW‐assisted process, MN with a similar crosslinking degree to those prepared conventionally can be obtained in only 45 min. The effects of the crosslinking process on the properties of these materials were also evaluated. For this purpose swelling kinetics, mechanical characterisation, and insertion studies were performed. The results suggest that MN arrays prepared using the MW assisted process had equivalent properties to those prepared conventionally but can be produced 30 times faster. Finally, an in vitro caffeine permeation across excised porcine skin was performed using conventional and MW‐prepared MN arrays. The release profiles obtained can be considered equivalent, delivering in both cases 3000–3500 μg of caffeine after 24 h.
